Yes! A lint remover is a must! I second everything in this video! I'm sure there must be at least a half a million (or more:) conscientious consumers out there who feel just as we do and I hope they find their way to your channel! I am in the process of going through my closet (and whole house). When I lose or gain weight, which happens, I will typically have garments altered. Instead of disposing of items, I offer special pieces to family and the balance goes to local charity. I always try to purchase for longevity and choose quality over quantity. This applies to all aspects of life from traveling to home decor to what I eat and wear. As an example, in 2004, I purchased a LS 430 Lexus sedan. It was the first car I researched, selected and paid for on my own. I loved that car. In all the years I owned her, she never let me down. But as miles began to accumulate, around 2016, I didn't feel quite as confident taking her on long road trips and began to think we should consider a replacement. Off and on, for nearly 5 years, I researched and read consumer reports and test drove many vehicles but none measured up. In the fall of 2021, my husband made the decision to trade for a Toyota SUV, but we drove the Lexus for 17 years because I couldn't find one I enjoyed driving that also felt like it was worth the money. Because we took care of the Lexus, it still looked great and was a joy to drive locally. Had we not taken such good care of her, I might have felt anxious and forced myself to purchase something I wasn't quite ready to buy. If and when I find a vehicle I love. I'll buy it. Until then, I'm fine driving one of his (which cost a lot less) while the money we have set aside can work for us elsewhere. I'm happy to go slow and explore.. It feels good to have options. Thanks for all the wonderful reminders in this video. Looking forward to the next one. (I almost said see ya in the next one, but we know that's not happening! 🙃)

Love this - thank you for sharing!! The way you described your car is how I feel about my furniture. Some of our prices are 16+ years old and because I haven’t found anything I like more, I haven’t bothered to switch anything out. I’ll have to keep researching until I find what I really like, because for purchases such as cars and furniture, they’re for the long haul, in my mind. Sounds like you and I are kindred spirits. 😉

Love the Slow Fashion approach to our ever changing world! Thank you for talking about this, it's so important to not bring more fast fashion (sorry H&M and Zara) home only to get rid of it after a season. Roam around a high end department store (Bloomingdale's etc.) or a designer store (What ever is available Gucci, Louis Vuitton) and just touch the fabric, look at the seams and the way the fabric is lined up. Compare that to your fast fashion to decide if your purchase has staying power! Enjoy!

Really resonated with me. I’m not into fast fashion or trends; love some avant garde yes, but that is an artistic statement vs trend for me. JCrew is my primary brand for 20+ years. Yes on watch maintenance. Also meticulous care of items & cognizant of materials/construction…but I haven’t ever defuzzed a 🎾 😁. Care tips: Leather goods: I have a broad range of Saphir products. I leather spa my own items and usually upon receipt and before seasonal storage. I use 3M clear safety walk tape for shoe soles - mostly on just toe cap area. It’s not as wet/snowy here so a full vibram sole isn’t necessary. I store shoes properly. Closet: Unfortunately we have periodic moths. Store sweaters in Ziplock 2 gallon bags and inside plastic storage tub. Also have the cedar rings/planks all over (considering getting a partial cedar closet later) and renew those with rubbing in more cedar oil. Repair moth holes with seamstress that does reweaving. Tailor clothes for proper fit. Thankful I do this way less now that brands have wider size ranges and primarily work from home. Also wear a base layer most days - so I don’t launder my “real clothes” as often, saving on wear/tear. Source used/pre-loved items as much as possible - cost effective & reduces waste. Same “take care of what you have” principles go for home, yard, and car etc. maintenance (ode to my 1997 Toyota Corolla!).

@@joannathesinger770 Hi! It’s actually like tape that is more for like putting on the bottom of like a bathtub or like on stair steps, etc. But all of the adhesive foot petals that are marketed for the shoe soles don’t stay on very long (I have tried a bunch. Only one brand seems decent), so I use this instead - plus it is a lot cheaper. This stuff has never comes off. So on slicker leather soles, adds some grip and protection. But I mostly put on the toe portion of the soles as that is where I get heavier scuffs, and I like the breathability and conformity of leather soles, so I don’t want them on the entire thing. I use the 2-inch wide tape and got it from Amazon. I don’t know if anyone else uses this, but it’s a hack I thought up on my own (I’m an engineer), and I have it on dozens of my high end shoes. You can search for “3M Safety-Walk Slip Resistant Tape, 2 in X 15 ft, Clear”. KZread may delete my post if I add an Amazon link but you can search for it ☺️.

Thank you for touching on this topic, as it's so needed with social media contributing to what I feel is excessive consumerism. You're seeing KZreadrs constantly doing fast fashion hauls with cheap quality materials. When I'm looking at new clothes, it's crazy how much stores are charging for items made of synthetic fabric such as polyester, acrylic, modal, etc. I've seen higher end stores selling $400 polyester dresses. Typically these fabrics are some of the cheapest to purchase by the yard/bolt compared to natural fibers like cotton, linen, wool, cashmere. On the flipside, people tend to equate fabric like cotton with being more "environmentally friendly," but it's more complicated as cotton requires large amounts of water to grow. In my niche, we're also seeing a lot of "stunt sewing" or sewing for social media and not because the sewist actually needs the item. Again, it's partly due to social media and needing to feed the Instagram and TikTok algorithms with tons of content. People are sewing trendy looking, but low quality makes that only look good for photos/videos but aren't going to last 5 minutes outside or through one laundry cycle.

@@hellocatwalkcity I've become a huge fan of your channel the last couple months! I don't judge others for buying fast fashion, and do buy mass produced clothing like T-shirts, underwear, sweaters, etc. but like you - try to limit these purchases and wear clothing for long periods of time. It is very difficult to avoid fast fashion, because to the end consumer it is the most budget-friendly for new items and seems like EVERYTHING is made overseas. That being said, I don't typically promote it on my own platforms and that's one of the big reasons I don't do print on demand merch or anything like that.

I then used it on my fav cashmere sweater and it immediately made a small hole… devastated!! I never use the electric versions now. There are only pros when it comes to slow fashion, less textile waste and money saved. One of the most frustrating issues is having a closet full of clothes but “having nothing to wear” because you don’t like 90% of your wardrobe. The idea of only having my favorites in my closet has been one of the biggest motivations for me to really be intentional about my purchases. Thank you for the tips! ♥️♥️😊

I have a sweater comb but may upgrade to battery power after this, haha. Washing garments inside out really does work to preserve clothes and yes to cedar rings as moth guards - we have lost cashmere sweaters and pure wool suits in the past to those pests. 😭 I simplified my wardrobe about 8 yrs ago and wear everything until it falls apart, with the exception of evening wear. I love my rubberised hangers for the majority of my clothes but the Ikea plastic ‘Bumerang shoulder shapers’ are fantastic to pop over any hanger that is too thin for the garment. I use them with linen shirts/tops and even lightweight sweaters without the commitment of buying new, bulky hangers.

I think it's so important for influencers (such as yourself) to promote "do what you can do" which I appreciate is what you're doing. Like you say, promoting not over-consuming is such a great place to start. Practicing slow fashion doesn't have to be buying "ethical" brands whose clothes cost a whole arm and a kidney. Practicing slow fashion can be "I can only afford clothes in the price range of H&M, but I am going to take care of it and maximise the life of this clothing and recycle it properly if it does reach the end of it's life." Majority of people cannot afford high end, or high quality clothing that costs more than they can afford. But I feel as someone in that position - the least I can do is definitely trying to maximise the life of the clothing - not just got cost per wear but also so I'm not buying a bunch of clothes!

We understand parts need to be replaced but the costs do add up over time particularly for the non-automatic watches. I have nothing but good words to say though about the people in Cartier. Hi! 👋 Love that! One of my favorite coats is from 21 years ago and no one believes it’s that old! I think an item is more precious when it holds up and works for us that long! 😉

I too keep my clothes for years because I take care of them Have you used the Torres to remove animal hairs from clothing? You call it a lint remover but it seems to be more like a depiller. I love the design and ease of use.

I mostly use Essie polishes, as well as OPI and Zoya. I also have Chanel and Hermès polishes but I really don’t find much of a difference between these and the drugstore brands!

aren't the sole of shoes suppose to have anti slip factors? seems like the loafers you showed in this video had a smooth surface and definitely requires additional sole

It depends on the brand of loafers. Most high end shoes in general have a leather sole and there are high end cobblers that make an excellent living by replacing soles and reworking shoes...particularly high end men's shoes. Sad to say, but women's shoes are not made with the same care as truly high end men's shoes. There's several KZread channels devoted to cobblering shoes. It's fascinating to watch. Also, there's at least one channel...something with "sartorial" in the title...that is excellent on learning more about high end men's fashion.
