WHAT SIZE SURFBOARD SHOULD I GET? | HOW TO SURF BETTER VIDEO SERIES

Спорт

Looking to learn what size surfboard you should get as a beginner surfer and when to advance to the next board? Do you want to know what shape surfboard is right for you and what the differences are between longboards, fun boards, fish and shortboard surfboards? We have the answers in this informative video. Beginner surfers often pick a surfboard that is too short for them when learning to surf. They will see a more experienced surfer riding a short performance surfboard and think that they should get a similar board. Your first surfboard should be a longboard and have lots of extra volume when learning so you can achieve more stability and better paddling. The general rule is to go about three feet bigger than your height to get started. Once a beginner surfer masters the longer board they are ready top progress to a mid length board or a hybrid shape. In this video we cover the essential elements of how to get started and also discuss the progression steps for surfing. Took up surfing in my 40's and bought a poly Ultimate after struggling for a bit on wavestorms. This board has helped me to progress much quicker and now I'm riding it down the line everytime. It is a longboard but still very maneuverable. Thank you!

7”0 I’m 5’6 anything over 8” is too much board can’t get through waves and it’s better because you’ll be with that board a long while instead of wanting to jump down to smaller board ASAP a mid length fish with foam is the new way to get past the curve of your goal Is to go shortboard that’s from experience

I wish I could buy a soft top board and gradually go smaller, but I don’t have the money to waste on multiple boards, so I ended up going from a 5 6 board to a 4 5 board. It was to hard and I stoped surfing. A couple months ago I went back to surfing, I got some second hand boards to start and became a ‘good’ surfer.

Maybe a quick board which can catch waves easier, maybe some sort of fish? You can look on the internet and find some cheap second hands boards, just in case it’s not the right board for you

Im surfing for over a year now, usually on 7/8'0 softtops. These were good boards, i can surf down the line and my pop up is great (local told me). Now i want to move on to a hardboard and shorter. I saw a 7'0 shortboard online. It doesnt have a very sharp nose and has enough volume (45L). But the thing is, im 5'4 (56 kg), i dont know if this board is too big for me. If i was a bit taller, it wouldnt be a thing, but doesnt it look weird if someone who's 5'4 has a 7'0 shortboard shaped surfboard?

depends on your skill and weight... beginner fish retro design should be like couple inches taller than the surfer. advanced surfer should get a fish like couple inches or more shorter than him. but if u are 5"6 height but get a 6"0 fish, it would not behave like it is designed to. thats too big of a fish. no more than 2 inches more from your height.
