    I love Daniel Smith in the tube, especially the ones made with ground gems. I am also really digging Paul Ruben in the tins. I have more watercolors now than I'll ever use in my life, but I'm always on the lookout for something new and different.

    The tubes are so much more cost effective, too! You get so much more pigment in a tube than in a half pan

    Not all brands will do this. A lot will dry out and just break up and not reconstitute into its creamy state. This is really bad advice. You could waste a lot of money.

    Daniel Smith are my favorite brand, tubes and pans. I like that I can mix from the tubes but I found it really enjoyable if I am painting on a whim and I have an array of colors all out and ready to go. I do use pans for my tube paint as well.

    My collection of paints far outweigh my talent or experience! I won a set of Windsor and Newton tubes from @splatterandbloom in October and I’m using a tin with half pans. My favorite is the Payne’s Grey-it’s absolutely beautiful! I also have a small Cotman pallet I like and Prima watercolor Tropical set that’s very bright and pretty. Pretty sure I have a lifetime supply of paint at this point! 😂

    My favorite is Kuretake, vibrant, smooth colors and in large removable pans that are easy to hydrate. I'd say they're a cross between the small pan kits and the tube style paints.

  • @serenityjewel

    @@charlottesmom They are just as light fast as most other brands. If someone is crazy enough to put them in direct sunlight with no UV protection, the reds, oranges, and yellows will fade. Almost all brands of red, orange, and yellows fade if they’re not protected in direct sunlight. However any professional should know that their watercolor paintings need some type of UV protection - be it glass or sealant - and no one should be hanging any work of art - from watercolor to acrylics- in direct sunlight. I understand it’s a KZread thing to “test” different brands and colors in direct sunlight with no protection but that’s a ridiculous test.

    How long will the tubes last just sitting if I don’t paint super often?

  • @willcookmakeup

    @willcookmakeup

    8 ай бұрын

    Like literally years. I would recommend getting a tube turn key to keep them rolled down all the way to eliminate trapped air in the tube. Same thing you'd do with toothpaste to push the product all the way down to the opening. That said, it in some ways doesn't really matter if air is in there, as to make them into pans we'd squeeze the paint out an allow to to dry anyway. But they don't "expire" necessarily and can generally always be reactivated by water. There are some vintage water color sets that are over 100 years old that are still usable

    You may never see this comment but as a TEACHER of "art" in the true sense of the word I will let you know that it is never about the brand. ALL artists should explore everything because just like with foods, there is something unique from each brand and the colors. If you ONLY bought food at ONE restaurant your whole life you miss out on something that just goes POW in your mouth. Same with paints! I may prefer Winsor Newton or Mijello Gold, but you will find several colors from other brands in all my palettes I just have to use like Daniel smith for the granulation in my landscape palette, or Winsor Newton Orange to mix with the blues that make them so vibrant in my travel palette. Manganese Blue from M Graham is a color I just gotta have that is in all my pallets! I honestly think it is more important to teach students to use better brushes and paper than to just stick with one brand of paint because PAINT is all about the pigments and mixes, color theory is really where it is at in art. I also usually have two colors of a die based paint to use as a first wash for many of my paintings for the underpainting which can come from cheap Koh-i-Noor Anilinky set I got for 12 bucks. I am enjoying watching a few of your videos and hope you inspire many people to jump into the wonderful world of watercolor. It is just such a beautiful way to paint and honestly so very travel friendly to do plein air or Urban Sketching with!

    Absolutely. There are definitely palettes out there that’ll cause more frustration than good, but in my supply guide I mention quite a few different brands. Some can be overwhelmed with the amount of options, so I just hope to try and lower that threshold that some might have to get started.

    Can you do this with gouache paints too?

  • @nicolesmith1309

    @nicolesmith1309

    4 ай бұрын

    Yes, but they don’t work quite as well, in my experience. A clear acrylic case with silicone “stay wet” seal layer with clap is often used to keep gouache wet and airtight for keeping gouache wet and clean over several days. Fresh is always best, as far as gouache is concerned, in my opinion. Hope that helps.

    I just bought a set of the 5 ml tubes of Winsor & Newton watercolor paint to make my own palette tin. When I was squeezing the tubes to fill the pans they were filled with a lot of air. I had to squeeze 4 or 5 times for paint to come out. Is that normal for the tubes to be full of that much air?

  • @RebelUnicornCrafts

  • @RebelUnicornCrafts

    Wet your paper- no. Wet your paints- yes, for best results. Wetting the paper will make the color disperse more, whereas applying the paint to dry paper will let the paint stay where you put it.
