    Sap suckers and red headed woodpeckers destroyed mine it was huge grrr that's Louisiana for ya. I love a cascading maple just like a Mimosa but I do not like Mimosas they spread like crazy!😂😂😂

    Usually those birds do their damage seeking out food. Was there an infestation in the JM of some kind? Mimosas can be a problem.

    It is not mine, but it is Acer Rubrum or Burgundy Japanese Maple

    @ bonito…what are you referring to by native Japanese covering stems in hay? I live in far west Texas where we are at 104-107 for > 30 days straight. I have two young J. Maples but in shaded areas.
