BAD LUCK! THAT'S MY JOB! I'M A STANDUP COMEDIAN, I'M MEANT TO CHALLENGE PEOPLE! IF YOU DON'T LIKE BEING CHALLENGED, DON'T WATCH MY SHOWS! WHAT'S THE MATTER, GUYS? TOO CHALLENGING FOR YAH?
WINNER OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING SHOW AT MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL 2019
“There’s a rush you get when you watch a routine that has been burnished to gem-like perfection, every phrase and pause chiseled and grooved to maximize the surprise; I felt drunk on it after two hours of this set. Joke after joke operates on a plane to which standup seldom ascends.” - The Guardian
“James Acaster already has a reputation as a comedy craftsman, but here he has surpassed even his own superlative standards…the way Acaster constructs his story, the way he develops themes and teases out humorous strands, is true genius.” - Evening Standard
“A revelation…career-defining two-hour show.” - The I Paper
Filmed 17.01.2019 EartH in Hackney, London.

So true. It's so nice to have something like this while we wait for the inevitable time when transphobia goes the same way as sexism, racism, homophobia, etc and becomes socially unacceptable and those people become 'that relative' that the family don't want to be around our introduce their friends to. It's bizarre that, after everything, some people haven't learned that stories like this end with them being outcasts and have decided to revisit some of the old bigotry.

@Abstract Parasite A comedian is still responsible for the audience they cultivate, though. James could have also made an entire special making fun of transpeople, but he instead chose to actively condemn the practice, choosing instead to cater to a less transphobic group. Gervais decided to do the opposite and cultivate an audience of almost pure transphobes. It's not mind bending social commentary, sure, but it reveals something about the comedians own views and opinions.

James Acaster is brilliant. An unparalleled wit on Brit panel shows. His Netflix special-trilogy REPERTOIRE was genius. COLD LASAGNE...genius as well. Meanwhile, Dave Chappelle whines, over and over and over, about being expected to write funny jokes that aren't punching down. I say this as a born U.S. American, the U.S. comics may rule the box office, but the Brits are infinitely funnier comedians and storytellers.

Its okay if you like this guy more than Chappelle or any other American comedian but what is he doing other than ranting and saying what his targeted audience wants to hear? @@kys125 Sorry, bub, but the only one nearsighted by world-view here is you. Have you seen his work in full? You wouldn't even suggest "little to no artistry" if you had any clue. As far as that goes, I'd argue Dave Chappelle owes a good portion of his whole rep to Neal Brennan, who is the only contemporary comedian who I would compare Acaster's craft to. "What his targeted audience wants to hear" That's an argument that reeks of insecurity and defensiveness. Come back to me when your critical thinking skills are at the same level as your political victimhood.

@@kys125 huh, where did I say anything about who the better comedian was. It looks like you're replying to the original commenter or a person who exists in your head instead of me. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why you feel the need to invalidate the original posters opinion, you're talking almost like the sheer possibility of someone liking James more than Chapelle is so alien to you the only reason someone can believe this is because they are being manipulated. As if the commenter decided, he only likes James because of a 5 minute clip on youtube and has no knowledge of his body of work. As per the bit, it came out in 2019, I don't think James can see the future. The bit has been available online, for months, the reason it was re-posted recently on his youtube channel is to advertise the stand up available on vimeo. I have comments on the original video asking where I could buy it as I couldn't find it, and was directed to his website. The bit is about how it's okay to make fun of transgenders, but not comedians. The moment you hold a comedian accountable, it's like this forbidden thing. About how the whole idea of some people viewing comedians as being some sort of truth sayer is ridiculous. Do you understand who he's taking about? Last thing I find it fascinating how you can be so cynical about people you don't agree with i.e. He must be lying about what he's saying to trick me cause it's impossible someone can have a different view. Yet at the same time be so naive about people you agree with. There's no way Dave could be saying this to get attention, I like him and he's my friend.
