It's very close in weight and sound to butcher's wax paper. It's also great for use as stencil's for automotive graphics; like these flames; and can be reused many more times than most other drawing paper. You can "pinprick" the outlines a lot close also; used for dusting the pattern; and will give more precise edges if used for full pasterns w/o much roll-up.

I was really hoping you would address the various types, weights and surface finishes that exist between different types of Vellum. There is at least one type that is noticeably thicker and slicker than mainstream vellum. Despite the thickness, it is also more translucent than any variety I have come across recently. Unfortunately, I have not used it for several years and lost track of the type and brand. I've been having a difficult time tracking it down. No one is taking the time to discuss the differences or to share the brand/companies they have been ordering from.

00:39 nice ;-) the bent up corners on the right edge of the paper were called Eselsohren (donkey ears, as this always ever can happened to someone stupid like a donkey) in Austrian primary school and the teachers shouted with us when we have it on our books. And of course I was shouted the most ... i was happy to survive, as the teacher hit me a lot, because I took the pen in my left - which was not common then ... Oh, and how i love donkeys!

Hi, pumthuggee! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us out here! Did you know and have you ever designed or "painted" on both sides of the vellum? I've seen some pieces and, obviuosly it depends on you as an artist, but some pieces were CrAzY gOoD! Some pieces......eh, well, eh............??? Anyway, I found that it creates layers and details that would be a pain to do all on one side. If you try it, I hope you enjoy it! God Bless!!!

I make card with parchment paper also called pergamano paper (Pergamano is a brand name but people call it like that), some people call it vellum also. Do you have any idea if vellum is the same as parchment paper for crafts?

I think vellum will have a much smoother surface than parchment. And the translucence is really important, especially for drawing on both sides of the paper.

I want to make Shade’s out of a 100 pound vellum, is vellum malleable? The shade that I wanna make our 20s style sort of a stepped pyramid and so it has to have folds in it to 150 contours of the frame

hey there- not sure what Shades are... like sunglasses? or like window shades? If the latter I would say get ready for that vellum to yellow really fast... and get brittle. Sun will kill that paper quality regardless of the weight. At least in my experience. Anyway let me know!
