It is a pandemic of willful ignorance in the gop. They do not read any of the court filings or depositions; listening to people's opinions instead of looking at the numbers. Blaming others for their own missteps and lack of policy. Justifying anything their cult leader says. Why his donors does not mind paying almost $400k for Melania's stylist, over $1m on private jets, about $50m on attorney fees. smdh

Not for long. Trump is going down. The wheels of justice turn slowly, but turn they do. Once the Federal cases get started he's in proper trouble. Especially now Joe Tacopina has just quit "on moral grounds" (that speaks volumes). He now joins the very long list of lawyers who won't work with Trump. His interview is very telling, it's pretty clear he thinks Trump can't win, as someone who is privy to all the case details he's better placed than anyone to know. Trump is toast. it's just a matter of time.

As bad as this sounds, at least it means people are actively involving themselves in politics, even if you personally believe them to be lining up behind the "wrong" person. Compare this with the UK where the average person is actively annoyed by anyone who tries to speak to them about anything remotely to do with politics. People here go "I vote tory, its what i've always done" or "I'll vote against the tories because i've always hated them" but neither side actively tries to engage in anything with the other side.

So whereas serious discussion, in person, is still frowned upon, online is a different matter entirely… Thus many people, having no experience of discussion, are at the mercy of spivs and snake oil salesmen such as Farage. It’s bizarre. l’ve never (knowingly) met a single Brexidiot in person. But there were 17.4 million of ‘em. Demonstrably. It could be that I’m too ‘intimidating’ a person to be challenged on my political views face-to-face. Who knows? (And I’d be ashamed if that were to be the case.) It's just been recently co-opted by the right as a linguistic boogeyman for anything they don't like.

I think the "psychological reward" for a lot of these people is the fact that they finally have a mainstream politician who vocalizes their values/beliefs which are normally and rightfully looked down upon. It finally gives them a movement that they can be a part of and feel welcome and feel like they have a voice and are doing something productive. It also gives them an avenue politically that they can take part in on an intellectual level. And what I mean by that is that normally they would have to put in much more time and effort to gather enough information to partake in politics on a meaningful level. However, when you can just essentially make up lies and pick up conspiracy theories to use as facts/evidence/knowledge it allows them to at least feel like they are engaging in politics on an informed level

Sean Spicer pointed to the photo of Trump's inauguration claiming it had the larger crowd despite the side by side aerial photos clearly showing anyone who cared to look that the crowd for Obama was much bigger. It was funny in 2015, eye opening in 2016, very concerning throughout his regime, and now it's outright scary.

I was horrified immediately-2016 election night - came home to an excited Trump supporting partner after working the election precinct from 5am to 10pm watching Faux news - I had a shot of scotch crying at 1am watching the results coming in - I said on that night that rights would be rolled back and roe v wade was dead - he said I was overreacting…. The other workers -also poc- at the polls said he could not be elected all day… my friends were like ohhhh you are making a big deal over nothing …. Too hyperbolic…Welp yet here we are in 2024 again….
