I'll add my own wedding. The pastor was so sure he didn't need to do a rehearsal the day before... during the wedding realizes he doesn't actually know my husband's name outside of his nickname... I did my best to hide the annoyed look I felt creeping onto my face.

The name thing is a fauxpas, I'll give you that. I've never heard of a pastor attending a wedding rehearsal though. Is that really a reasonable expectation where you live? Obviously, you meet with the pastor to plan the ceremony, but unless your wedding venue is very extraordinary and requires changes of procedure, I don't think it is necessary to meet on site.

@@haukenot3345 In my city for Catholics church, it's obligatory to attend one rehearsal, if you don't, they change the date for your wedding 😅(that's what my brother told me) I don't know if they keep doing this after COVID because a lot of rules had change... @@shiorywalker7978 I would hope they don't just write that down in a note. Usually, a pastor needs to see some form of identification before officiating a wedding, and properly document it. After all, they need to make sure that you're not already married.

@haukenot3345 it is especially when trying to figure out the walking order and stuff like that. I was really annoyed because the pastor (who was a family friend at the time) had just been at my home for a holiday dinner days prior and signed our marriage certificate that same day. Lol, I was just so dumbfounded, but later down the road it helped me to see that he really never was invested in our lives as much as we helped with the church.

Refused to sign the marriage license to be files and told the preacher who officiated the wedding that it never happened. She proceeded to rip the license in half and walked out. We went on a girls trip instead of "their honeymoon" and had a good time. She's never been married. That was 30 years ago. She refuses to even consider it. And she now despises cake. The sob actually smashed into her face so bad it was in her eyes and nose. He's on his 4th marriage. I can't understand why he can't hold on to partner. He's an ass. Was a bridesmaid- they had us take wedding photos outside in April- in upstate NY- I was like 90 pounds soaking wet so not well insulation in a strapless dress. We were out there for a better part of an hour- came back inside to a hot hotel lobby and my whole world went black. I’m guessing my blood vessels dilated too quickly from the temperature change. The worst part was everyone thought I was just sloppy drunk- my fiancé had to carry me up to the suite. It was awful. Also didn’t get to sit with my immediate family at my only brothers wedding reception because my pushy aunt insisted on being a part of the action.

Similar climate for my wedding, so the bridesmaids dresses were REQUIRED to be floor-length and NOT strapless. I even urged them to consider wearing thermal pants and bringing shrugs or sweaters. In retrospect, maybe I should have provided shawls, but since their dresses were mismatched it might have been tricky and we lucked out with the only sunny Saturday the whole month.

Oh man do I have a story too! I'll keep it as short as possible: I'm friends with twins and the girl was getting married. As it was a queer wedding they opted to have her twin brother instead of a preacher. He added random things into the reading, trying to be funny and nostalgic. Think stories and comments that should be saved for the reception. Things like: "I wish -OTHER BRIDE- would have had more kids before you transitioned so -THEIR 3YR- would have a sibling relationship like you and me." Whatever kind of wholesome in a weird way but not the time. Also, she doesn't want to be reminded that she's trans and had held off their wedding so they could have a biological child before her to then transition. The rest of the wedding was okay and he realized he fcked up and was able to fix their relationship. We kind of laugh about it now 2yrs later but take this as a lesson to not get siblings or close friends to do the reading because even normal people can do stupid things lol

I loved my wedding but know it wasn't of the traditional style. I wore a red Japanese Lolita dress, and the wedding colors were red, gold, and black. The dress was picked because I was actually just wanting a party dress cause we weren't going to have a full ceremony. Just a party in the grandparents' backyard. It grew way to big and turned into an actual wedding and it was great. The song we walked up the aisle to was from Chrono Trigger, and we danced to -I can't stop loving you. We had cupcakes instead of a whole cake and the venue didn't allow alcohol but we had sparkling martinellis for drinks to toast with. One of my husband's friends didn't want to wear a suit and asked if he could wear his Boba fett costume he made. It looks amazing and you can see Boba Fett in the background of so many pictures. Some might say it was cringe or awkward but me and my husband have been happily married 7 years.

Man, i feel like i dodged a billion bullets at my wedding. The food was cooked by my husband's family but it was actually pretty good! My husband did all the flowers himself, but he worked at the floral department of a grocery store and it's actually really good at creating floral displays, so it was lovely, she it was also really sweet knowing that my bouquet (and everything else) was made for me as essentially a gift from my husband. The music really was just a playlist off my phone that my aunt had control over, but it went great, i labeled all the playlists really carefully so it went just how i wanted. I walked down the aisle to the theme song of my favorite anime... But the anime is ballet themed so it's actually just a very gentle piano piece, i don't think anyone that wasn't a total nerd knew. We didn't have any dancing at the wedding because i knew i would freak me out (turns out i had undiagnosed generalized anxiety disorder haha), but that meant that i was genuinely fairly relaxed at the wedding and didn't panic or freakout once. It was really nice, and I've been told by a lot of people that it was one of the prettiest weddings they've been to. (Aided a lot by the fact that we were able to rent out a really pretty park nearby my parents home that my husband and i spent a good amount of time in while we were dating... Nature did a lot of the decorating.) Also I didn't sing. That seems to be a pretty important part, not singing.

Husband always made a fuss over her singing voice and told everyone they ever met what a great singer she was. Sweet that he supports what she loves in such a great way, but it sucked for everyone else because they never passed up an opportunity to share her "gift" with everyone. We spent too much time listening to her sing and watching her hubby swoon about her "beautiful voice". Tbf, she wasn't the worst ever, but was regularly off tune and it was just hard to get on board....

So it’s not always a cringeworthy thing to do but when it’s an obvious ploy to tug at the heartstrings of everyone in the room that’s when the cringe happens. It worked at my aunt’s wedding because it was very clear that the gesture was for her and her alone and the rest of us just happened to be witness to it.

She was so happy she found a way to include ALL her nieces and nephews, even the ones that were grand nieces and nephews (her youngest daughter wasn't included because she was disowned after my aunt divorced her ex, and my oldest cousin couldn't come because she lived in Texas and couldn't get to the off work for the travel and everything.) God I was a last minute bridesmaid in a wedding I Def should not have been one for. For anime fans, I bring this up specifically, the bride is part of a love live idol troop. This is important because most of the bridesmaids are in it too. Halfway through the reception... the bride changed into a half finished love live cosplay and sneakers to preform an awkward solo routine while the other love live bridesmaids set up plushies and wave lights lightsticks. I will never fucking forget how awkward it was to wat h her do that dance to a shitty song rip sad that there was only a two drink maximum

I don't think singing at your wedding is necessarily terrible all the time. My aunt sang her way up the aisle at her wedding and she sounded very lovely and chose a sweet song to sing to the groom. I thought it was a nice addition that suited her Leo/Virgo sensibilities.

I've only ever been to like, two, as far as I can remember. This "wedding" I went to, wasn't official, it was just a couple of our friends doing a ceremony as if it were, and then our whole friend group were the attendees. The mentioned dead relatives/loved ones was what made it awkward for me. The ceremony was over and we were making a few speeches, but then one of my friends (not one of the couple getting "married") stepped up and made a speech about someone else in the friend group who'd died recently. The sentimental intention was there, but it made it awkward for those few people (me included) who didn't know said friend that well. The same person who brought up this speech had also, earlier on, proposed to their SO just after the the grooms (the couple were two bisexual guys) had finished their initial ceremony

Last wedding I went to: the wedding photographer banned anybody else from taking any photographs during any part of the wedding, reception and after-party. She informed the entire congregation that, if they wanted a photograph, they had to purchase it from her and gave a full price list - up to, and including, pictures of the bride and groom in a £500 (plus VAT) gold frame. She then proceeded to stop the wedding mid-flow every time she wanted to get a specific shot. Afterwards tried to get the 200+ guests to become a kind of rent-a-crowd and ordered them around for over an hour while she maneuvered us around like soldiers on parade, all the while taking group shots from the top of ladders, framed in the light from windows, looking upwards from ankle height (?) and trying to get a group of 200+ tired and pissed-off people to 'smile'. While this was going on, nobody was allowed to sit down on the very few chairs provided - not even the elderly or physically handicapped. This went on for so long that the food was served late, cold and rushed. The foolishness only stopped when the groom's uncle finally reached the end of his tether and declared that "This will be the last photograph taken and do you want me 'tits in or tits out?' Your choice". We left early and went for a curry. Oh... and we have no photographs of the event.

My wedding isn't as bad as some of these, but pretty tacky. I was 18 (almost 19), a little over 6 months pregnant with my first, husband was 21. We got married at the local Grange hall, we were broke kids so everything was done a cheaply as possible ($99 dress sale @ David's bridal, flip flops from Walmart, hairdresser student sister in law, makeup enthusiast aunt, crafty mom and Grandma in law, we had lots of help and donations). A family friend made our cake as a gift, we did the potluck thing (we had a fridge though). We had asked an old pastor and father of a friend my husband had to be the officiant, a week before our wedding he randomly said he couldn't/wouldn't do it (no explanation). So we called around to all the people we knew that could possibly fill in our help us find someone. When that didn't work, my husband's grandparents (who were the biggest help through it all) took us to the courthouse and we got married there a few days before the wedding, then a family member who was no longer licensed but had been formerly did the officiating for our ceremony and his high school daughter was our photographer. I had wanted an outdoor wedding but everyone convinced me early October in Oregon PNW would be too cold, they were wrong. We also got rushed through the whole thing, barely got a chance to eat, didn't get to dance at all or do much of anything. The wedding started at one, hubby and I were out of the building and headed to the coast for our honeymoon by 4. There was a lot I wish we could redo, especially after seeing how nice my little sister's weddings were - but a perfect wedding doesn't always symbolize how a marriage will turn out. We get 2 anniversaries (marriage and wedding) and This year will be our 14th. We just had baby number 5 in February and everything is good. We've talked about having a vow renewal at some point that meets our expectations a little more, so maybe next year or for the 20th we'll plan something like that. Not all weddings have to be perfect to result in happy lives, but admittedly I wish there was more fondness when I thought about our wedding.

my parents ad a beverage shop with party service. you could buy /rent all you need for a party from us( except food). drinks, limo, tents fridges ect. i was on my way to a Harrd rock/metal fan reunion where i was ordered to "gring all the stuff thats needed". as i and the fans arive at the lockation it turned out they had double booked the place with a wedding. after both partys agreed to use that space together and make arangements except for 5 people the entire family side of the bride left. (almost all well educated white people with i am better than the rest syndrome.) after an awkward first hour that wedding got from classic white themed to fancy rock themed really quick and everyone had agood time. there where scenes like: One big bearded rocker guy as flowergirl ( the other one had left with her family) and the original shy 5 yo girl . grandma trying to grill a half of a pig over open fire and was cheared on by a lot of long haired men in lether atire and fine gentzlemen in formal atire (the pig was almost her sice) the wedding ceremony itself was outcourced to a nice lake nearby because the huge musik stage had blocked the spot for the photograpic scene that was planned. both partys helped setup the transportinging and setting up the szene. the big flower buckets for example where strapped to 2 atvs for transport. it looked like 2 piles of pants with 4 n wheels and a hed in the middle.

A wedding i was invited to as a plus one. A few hours away, so was invited to stay with my date at the same motel as the groomsmen. Not until the end of the ceremony, did i realise that the bride was my exes cousin, and i had been to their engagement party years earlier at the grandparents house. My ex wasnt there, but we had been together about 4 years, so i had met most of his extended family, and his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins were all there. Noone recognised me because noone had expected me to be there, on the grooms guest side, and it had been a few years since id seen any of them During the reception, one person recognised me. One of the bridesmaids. The one other family member i really ever got along with. She didnt say a word til id left, but she thought it was as holarious as i did 😂

Ok, but Marrying Mum and Dad was occasionally a really sweet show. On one episode, the kids wanted to arrange a wedding for their mum's, and they went with a Doctor Who theme because of Madame Vastra and Jenny. And yes, dressing up as a lizard person from the dawn of time and her Victorian maid wife is cringe, but it was really really adorable, and everyone knew what they were getting their selves into asking a couple of 8-10 year olds arrange a wedding. The kids also didn't organise everything, the show did, they just did things like pick the dress, cake and decorate.

Apparently "stukje" is correct. Google / Wiktionary tells me it's Afrikaans, derived from Dutch & "stuk" means piece (as in a piece of apple) and the diminutive form is "stukje" can refer to skits, sketches and small plays the same way English & American might call them "bits" - as in, "the best man's speech was so bad we thought it was a bit / he was doing a bit"

My eldest cousin got married in 2021, and while it was sweet. It had some… cringy moments. The father of the bride decided to rap for her, and my brother and I cringed the whole time, and it kept going on and on! The venue was small so it was hard for everyone to dance, and my aunt (mother of the groom) got BLACKOUT drunk. She could not walk by the end of it. She then said to my brother “I don’t think your dad loves your mom enough.” And ohhhhh boy did that infuriate him and me. My dad gets overwhelmed with my mom’s family and he doesn’t really click with any of them. Sucks but that’s people. So she’s not invited to either of our weddings, whenever and if we ever get married.

Yeah, so my niece apparently wanted to have a classic movie style swing dance number right after her ceremony. I assume she meant for the officiant to declare them espoused and then they’d swing right into a musical number. Well, what happened was the ceremony ended, but instead of there being a “Hit it!” and the dancing breaking out, we all sat in awkward silence while they removed portions of their dresses so that they could do the number. Then I guess they danced… I can’t remember much after watching them struggling to unhook long skirts through layers of tulle. I know it didn’t feel well rehearsed, and that I used my small kids as an excuse to blow off the reception. Her parents were divorced and I was already feeling incredibly uncomfortable after being around them trying to “make nice” for her sake.

I'm still a little embarrassed we did the reception, but it was a song I'd written about my engagement guitar (he'd proposed with a sweet Taylor guitar rather than a ring because, eff a rock on metal, if you're gonna drop more than 1k on me, get me a guitar). So, yeah, some relatives talked us into singing "that guitar song" at the reception. Cringey? maybe, but, ah, well...
