One interesting aspect that people tend to forget is that in the novel of Unicorn, it is made quite clear that all three pilots were newtypes. Each of them dies in battle subsequently, their souls affecting the outcome like previous newtypes in past battles(zeta), ultimately fulfilling their roles as the vanguard to the unicorn units. The thing is these pilots didn't know they were newtypes but the higher ups definetely knew and sortied them in the jesta as a result.

The main difference between the Jegan and the GM series is that the Jegan is made by Anaheim Electronics, while the GM series is built by the EF. For further context, consider that this means that the Jegan has more in common with the Nemo, Marasai and Gustav Karl, while the GM series has more in common with the Hizack and Barzam. We can see this in practice when the AEUG is repairing a MS-14A Gelgoog with... a MSA-003 Nemo. While a GM II would be a more expendable option and the Rick Dias has a more zeonic look, the Nemo is supposedly internally very similar to a MSA-002 Marasai, and therefore the cheaper and more compatible machine to the MS-14A. In fact, supposedly the Nemo is the result of AEUG pilots, mostly ex-EF personnel, not wanting to pilot a Zeon-like MS, so AE simply made a similar machine with a GM exterior. Or put more simply, the Hizack is essentially viewed as an EF MS with the exterior of a Zaku, while the Nemo is a Zeon MS with the exterior of a GM. A few extra details: First, according to AOZ Re-boot, the EF first created the RX-106 Prototype Hizack without AE's input. They then turned the design to AE, whom created the YRMS-106 version which served as the basis for the mass production RMS-106 model. The Marine Hizack is said to be derived from the RX-106 version, which is meant to reflect the fact that these machines were first designed in Jaburo according their model number. Makes you wonder if the Hizacks made in Luna II, namely the RMS-116H Hobby Hizack (perhaps originally a RMS-116 Hizack?) and the RMS-119 Eye Zack are also based on the RX-106, while only the RMS-106, its direct variants (RMS-106C Hizack Cannon and RMS-106CS Hizack Custom), as well as its direct successor, the RMS-108 Maasai, are based on the YRMS-106 versions, given all these machines RMS number corresponds to Granada, Anaheim's main production site: hobby.dengeki.com/aoz/illust/reboot23/ Second, the Barzam's relationship with the Mk II is actually a retcon, and true to its origins it was simply meant as a successor machine to the GM II, specifically being said to be only 50% more expensive than the GM II despite major improvements such as movable frame and gundarium gamma alloy armor. It was also designed to be compatible with the equipment of the GM II and Hizack. On an odd twist of fate, during the "de-zeonification" of the EF forces (after the Titans defeat), the Barzam would make a comeback as the MSA-008 / RGM-87 BR-GM, basically a Barzam with a visor and new color scheme, similar to the Byarlant Custom. Lastly, it seems that the RGM-96X Jesta was ultimately rejected in favor of a different member of the Jegan family for the EF's future hi-spec MS: The RGM-89A2 on board the General Revil uses the same backpack (1 large thruster & 4 small) & leg thruster (2 per calf) configuration as the RGM-89R, essentially the high mobility variant of the 3 late Jegan models still in service by U.C. 0123. The RGM-89R Jegan A-type is said to be the one of the few EF MS that do could stand its ground against the Oldsmobile Army's MS between U.C. 0120-0122, unlike its sister models, the RGM-89J Jegan Normal Type and the RGM-89M Jegan B-Type. Apparently, the RGM-89R is also known as the Jegan R-type, which I can't help but think it's a nod to Zeon's MS-06R series, their R-type Zakus which famously served as high mobility units for ace pilots.

The jegan is to the zeta Gundam as the jesta is to the nu Gundam. The jegan was part of a program to bring the capabilities of the zeta to mass production, and built to work with the RG-Z as part of a team. In much the same way, the jesta was built to bring the vast majority of the nu Gundam's performance to a mass production unit. It was also built to work along side the Re-zel, and essentially let the Re-zel function as a base jabber for the jesta.

You're confused dude Jegan was never intended as Mass Production Zeta Gundam and that's Rezel's purpose, Jegan is basically the pinnacle RGM series up until UC 0090s since GM III kinda outdated at that time

I see now this is a much better explanation to why Jegan is such a solid unit, along with it's relative like the Rezel & Jesta which become EFF deadliest combo at it's time.

One more interesting thing that the Jegan actually was use for other main line MS in Unicorn. The Rezel, Jesta and Anksha were built from the Jegan, they all have the same/similar visor to the Jegan, their overall design is not that too different from the Jegan. The Rezel is the fast transformable Jegan for space, Anksha is the same but under atmosphere while Jesta is just a really buff Jegan

It's not really a grunt, it's a purpose built escort of the Unicorn, meaning it's most likely made for highly skilled pilots, aces, commanders, and maybe even newtypes. As anyone below that piloting the Jesta would probably not be able to pilot the Jesta properly and keep up with the Unicorn, which would prevent the Jesta from serving it's true purpose.

Difference is a purpose Jesta was specially desinged to assist UC, and its permance was enhanced to follow UC until UC encounter New Type Unit. They were a counter against Spacenoids' new type units. On the other hand Jegan was designed to deal with other units beside irregular anomalies. New types' offensive has declined as time has passed since more counter pychomyu techs have become available so its counter units have also become unnecessary, ultimately vanished. On the other hand Jegans' tasks have never gone since military operations were always been there among humanity's domain.

Do you think that if the Barzam had most of its equipment (Grande launcher attachment to their beam rifle, and thruster attached to the backpack which look like the top thruster of the Jegan backpack, or two beam cannon attachment on the backpack for support role.) then would it have make a difference in Gundam Zeta?

Jesta is a special forces version with upgraded systems and experimental tech. Jegan is a stock version for the regular forces. Think F-22 vs F-16

Prob more like F-4E vs the Super Phantom or Kurnass 2000 where they're technically the same frame but vastly improved internals.
