I like the single, awkward, oversized shoulder pad. It kind of gives the impression that it was haphazardly put together, and it being oversized kind of sells the idea that she’s been forced into a role that she’s not entirely ready for. I wish the rest of her armour kind of followed suit.

Yes, even in her cinematic she looks very in control and refined. Definitely embodies that cold fury. Hopefully they advance her story further. If she got involved in the second Noxus-Ionian war that is definitely coming that would be awesome. Or maybe a different conflict because Ionia was gotten so much love already. Rell was made to fight Morde anyway.

@@maciejczerwinski1361 I feel like they HAVE to be including them at the same time... like, you can't just suddenly make death magic appear at *The Immortal Bastion* of all places and Mordeksaiser does not take complete and utter advantage of the free door out of the spirit realm.

I like how alive her horse appears, it gives a sense of a lonely child behind the armour, with her creating an imaginary friend out of metal who helps her in battle and is always a spellcast away

I didn’t know her lore until now, can confirm i taught she was part of the Noxian army based on her character design

i really thought she was ixtalian, mostly because they use magic that transforms natural resources into armor and weapons, like, quiyana´s weapon, malphite itself and with a simple look at its universe page, you can see a soldier wearing a body armor of weirdly shaped metal

In my opinion Rell's face actually looks like a teenager, so when she is armored and the adult body attached to it is covered, she actually looks like a teen to me

Tbf, "ruined architecture as armor" is metal af

I think the non-threatening design of Rell's armor is done so she looks like a support. Probably the best example of this is actually her lance, which has a blunt end. If she was meant to be a deadly character she'd have spikes all over her weapon like... well, Mordekaiser. Her smooth sensible armor (along with supposedly being pieces of the academy which provides this idea of "order repurposed") makes her look like she can't do a lot of damage. Her in-game design is meant to show that she can take a lot of damage (when armored) or move very fast (when mounted) but she doesn't hit very hard. This is also why her horse has the horn at the top as an explanation that "if the thing at the front of the horse hits you it'll do something extra." (As seen with her flip stun.) If the horse was instead covered with spikes you'd get the impression of someone more like Rammus where their initial engage doesn't do a lot but its through extended exposure that you slowly die in a 1v1. I think ultimately it's a bigger problem with Rell's lore having some dissonance with her gameplay. In lore she's an ultra deadly wanted criminal who can take down entire armies with a wave of her hand but in-game she struggles to kill minions. Would Rell have been better as a juggernaut top laner akin to Urgot or indeed Mordekaiser? Perhaps, but Riot chose to take her into a support role which isn't reflected at all in her lore. Even in-game it's jarring to have Rell say voice lines like "If I trusted people, I'd need even more armor." / "Don't let anyone in. Never let anyone in." / "Trust is a luxury no one can afford." while simultaneously being *literally tethered to someone* for one of her main abilities. Her assist lines help a bit with that problem ("I could learn to trust someone like you." / "You're dependable. I like that." / "You'll watch my back? Just like that? Cool.") but the issue still remains. I know Riot wanted to make an "edgy support" and I can definitely attest to the fact that some of what Rell says is how I truly feel playing support lol. But there's a reason why the Support role for the most part is dominated by Sorakas and Namis and Seraphines.

Riot tend to be very unfair to supports, and treat them very dismissively. They tend to treat support like a very nonspecific role, which can be filled by any kind of character, from blue-skinned goat goddesses to floating big-boobied musicians to huge muscular men wielding giant doors to tiny cute fairy witches to hulking minotaurs to cats riding flying books to angsty teenage edgeladies with hovering metal armour- but at the same time they are _ruthless_ about restricting designated "supports" to knowing their place. Janna is being played mid? Nerf all her ratios and CDs! Sona is being played top? Double all her mana costs whenever she's not holding hands with another champ! Yuumi is being used as a primary damage dealer while riding on Garen? Gut her Q completely! Oh sure, when another champ designed for a solo role muscles their way into the support role, usually dominating the _actual_ dedicated supports there (e.g Brand, Morgana, Zyra, Sett etc) they always treat them carefully to ensure that they can still be played in their original role without shutting out the players who picked them in support because they hate having to play a lame support champ ew, but try and take a support OUT of the support role and Riot will slam the door on your fingers. Supports are the red-headed stepchild of League of Legends, and Rell suffers from being designed at the time when Riot was thinking "OK, we need another champ for the support role this year- so just make whatever, but make sure their kit only works when they're tied to a carry to keep players from getting any unwelcome ideas about where to play them, you get me?"

@@Ilyak1986 Sett and Maokai are the most obvious choices. No support champs are allowed to be bruisers or juggernauts; they're designed as either "wardens" like Braum or "initiators" like Leona (or a bit of both, like Alistar). As supports, they're never allowed to function independently.

You could say that her rol as a support and her "i dont trust anyone" personality Is some way of showing a part of the journey she will have to go through, accepting that even if she was decived in the past she must learn to trust people if she wants to truly acomplish her goals. Because im not saying she Is weak, but fighting against demon-fap-hand, dunking-noxus, now-you-see-me-now-you-dead and Vladimir VonSucklord Is not really somethig easy to do alone

Rell's kit isn't that much fun to play without voice coms, so the best part of playing rell is the joke spam. I will literally queue up just to play rell because I want to joke spam.

What I really like about the revision presented here is that she, frankly, looks too small for armour. She's using her ferromancy to clad herself in these huge chunks of smouldering, razor-sharp iron which certainly gives her a threatening silhouette, but her actual body is tiny in comparison. It's a really effective way to communicate the story of someone forced to grow up far too quickly. Her boots are literally too large for her to fill. She looks like an unstoppable tank of rage, but also a teenager who's profoundly scared, hurting everything around her before it can hurt her. Anyway nice vid and hope you feel better soon :)

I always interpreted her expression in her Joke animation as something like "Is this what you wanted? Ya happy?" just unbridled sass lmao

I don't know what girls look like where you all come from, but from my own experience in high school, there was a lot of diversity when it came to body types, I'm absolutely sold on Rell as a teenager. Hell, my 14yo niece is probably gonna look like her in a couple of years, and that's scary. They grow up stupid fast

I think the problem is not as much as her body type? Since skyen already said that it could be believable that given how she was raised made her look like that (with constant combats and basixally magical steroids) but its when you compare her to almost every other female character in lol, in wich the only diference is clothing and hairstyle/color

I don't know, I definitely get the feel of Rell being a teen. Even compared to the women you put her next to in the video, she has a much smaller head and chest, is markedly shorter, and her hair is unruly and huge. Riot can of course always go further on diversifying their female body types, but I think Rell is, at least relative to the field, pretty unique.

I love the concept of rell and would love to see more of her in the future, but if I were to add my own spin on her, it would be to give her some of the Zaun punk influence, have her escape to Zaun after destorying her school. It would be cool to see her with Grafiti like art on her armor, making her more colorful. Just what i would love to see in a futre skin

Damn, I really really like the concept of Rell - as the person who is out to tear down Noxus - having strong visual (and somewhat thematic) connections to Mordekaiser - the person who MADE Noxus a thing in the first place. As well as Sion, the second BIG warlord that Noxus had. Both of those champs are big spiky metal clad undead boys and having Rell parallel that being a big spiky metal clad very alive girl works so well thematically for me. That being said - I hadn't thought about it like this, but I full agree that Rell's character design is a little too restrained. And obviously she looks way too old to sell the fantasy of an angry teen - although in direct comparison to Senna and Kai'Sa I feel like Rell did look quite a chunk younger than those two in particular. The argument still stands though.

One of the underlying things about Rell that I see in her voice lines that might support her armor design a bit is her restraint in wanting to hurt or fight with anyone who isnt directly involved. She will if she has to, but ultimately shes young, and clearly does have reservations about her situation. In reality, these kinds of things tend to show up in children and teens who "mature" too quickly, and are able to present themselves in some way or another as much older or more experienced than they are. They're still very hurt and angry, but they develop a refined social "armor" which they keep on unless they really need to discard it (due to a trigger or similar trauma). Do I believe riot did that intentionally, nah, but it's a nice lil hypothetical.

J4's armour might suit her, but her armour wouldn't suit him. It's too utilitarian, too monochrome for royalty. If anything, J4's armour doesn't really suit him either, as he looks more like a wild renegade knight, not the prince of a shining kingdom. I know it's tied to his lore where originally he spent years out adventuring in the wilderness and it was implied to be styled after drake plating, but it's outdated and makes him look out of place next to other Demacian characters such as Garen and Xin Zhao (whose character model, incidentally, is _also_ out of date, as he's supposed to be considerably older than he's represented).

The more I read up on Rell's story, the more disappointed I grew with her design. Her in-game model is like a completely different character from how she is in the lore. Her body is covered in sigils which hold the magical power of the kids who she defeated. The moment she makes her armor in her story is described as "The building ripped itself apart, forming an impenetrable suit of black armor around Rell as she crushed those who stood before her." Meanwhile her in-game appearance consists of carefully crafted plates which fit nicely together and if anything reminded me somewhat of the commando skins. To me it looks more like a version of Rell who didn't discover the secrets and went on to become a noxian soldier. The sigils are also nowhere to be seen (at least as far as I know), even though she is meant to be covered by them. Point is: Rell would've been better if she looked (and played, juggernaut Rell would fit better than support Rell) more like she's described like in the lore, imo.

For the armor thing, how could they have made it look more unnatural? Just have it be unrefined metal?

I remember that in Samira's story they reffer to her as "a child", I was expecting that maybe he/she would have the age of nunu or annie, a child that protects itself with an enourmous ammount of metal, maybe he would create an armour that made he/she look intimidating or something like that.

I agree with most of the things you've said about Rell's design looking too neat and tidy to be an angry teenager who's out for blood, but. Regarding her age. Yeah, I saw her splash art and thought she was in her early twenties, but the character model has subtle differences compared to kaisa, model you provided in this video, for example. Rell is smaller, her head as well and she looks a bit less hourglassy. I know, she still doesn't look like a teenager, but at least it's not a model copy-paste..? I think...?

The problem with Rell's character design is less that "she doesn't look 16." (Imo she looks like she's 18 or something.) The problem is that 95% of the females in League of Legends look like they're between the ages of 18 and 21. Rell wouldn't be a problem if she didn't look like Senna who didn't look like Ahri who didn't look like Ashe who didn't look like LeBlanc who didn't look like Kai'sa.

Indeed, zoe and annie dont look like the other girls because they're clear minors, so if they were hourglass-shaped that would be pretty disturbing altogether, so if we dont include children in the "adult female" range, and we exclude illaoi, (who Skyen has made honorable mentions for being different), kalista (spooky ghost, also usually mentioned), taliyah (mentioned in this same video) and Jinx, (give it to you, she's pretty stick shaped), then we have... hourglass-shaped ashe, hourglass-shaped miss fortune, hourglass-shaped senna, hourglass-shaped leblanc, hourglass-shaped elise, hourglass-shaped riven, hourglass-shaped samira, hourglass-shaped ahri, hourglass-shaped evelyn, hourglass-shaped... well, I think you get it by now? They're all hourglass-shaped. There's only a feeeew different women, and that's where the complaints come from. (We are not counting non-human-based-creatures like rek'sai, yuumi or lets say, hecarim's lovechild (heh) because we're speaking of human women in here)

I think you are mistaken, I did not use percentages in my comment, that was kirby up there. And I think you are mistaken about something else, which is, body shapes do not equal body fitness. Of course leblanc is not as ripped as Riven, but that doesnt change their waistline is small and their hips make the same shape, their faces also look similar and have same shape and similar noses, and all that jazz. Having more or less muscles does not change that. And yes, in males it usually is the "same", we get a nice V shaped torso and some pecs and its ready to go, look at sylas and lets say varus, to set an example, and yet we get more variety than we do in women because there's stuff like gragas, singed, garen, urgot, zilean, aphelios dare I say, who is more on the slinky side, gangplank could also be an exception since he's more square shaped and burly... and that's more variety than females get, in general. Heck, we dont even have a "wise old lady", if we are to make a Zilean similarity, camille is supposed to be old but she also rocks those hips and looks like she's 40

You say that, if we ignore the "minority" of champs with different body types, it means that the majority of female champs are hourglass-shaped. YET when you talk about male champs, you easily consider the "minority" of different body types in your arguement and ignoring the majority ripped v body shapes of male champs. All you talk about is "exception this exception that", picking it to the taste of your arguement without even setting the definition of the exception besides the ones that are obvious (e.g. minors) Judging by your username you know how anatomy and design works but the way you say shit like this without even thinking of your logical points, no one would want to believe you. It reads like a fucking 12-year old in tumblr trying to justify why their OC is unique. It hurts my brain reading your arguement, even a high-schooler with failing grades can come up with better points and counterpoints than this

Its like.... one of the few champion where giving the armor useless spikes would actually be great. Kayle can impale herself for no reason but Rell .....

I've been playing since 2012 and playing Rell is hands down the most fun I've had playing this ungodly game since Thresh was released.

He even showed Styil, the 14 year old guy, the WORST example I know of of age vs appearance making no sense that I have ever seen because as far as I'm aware there's not even any excuse for why Styil looks so old. The 30 year old 'kid' shown below Styil has a strongly hinted reason that they have some experiment/power that made them that way. I still think her design is dumb, but at least there's some explanation. Don't know where that 18 year old 8 year old shown next to Jotaro lol.

Also, for engagement and to boost the comment count: Applecork's art is super good and I would LOVE to see their work in all your future what's the deal vids and even in, if you could, videos on already covered what's the deal champs, but changed and designed the way you think would better suit them. For example, I'd love to see yours and Apple's take on a Seraphine redesign.

Finally I can state my opinion on Rell, now that I’ve stolen it from TB Skyen!

Perhaps they 'soldier-like' esthetic is meant to be ironic. In her fight against Noxus, she's inadvertently becoming something of a soldier herself. But that's something that her future lore would have to develop.

i think part of the reason rells design was toned down was readability. during design they took care to map horse parts to armor suit parts, and cleaner shapes make that read easier and make the whole process easier. i think the smoldering lance still helps convey her repressed rage, although the armor is a bit blander than it could

I need a Rell, Ekko and Taliyah high school love triangle drama fanfic NOW. The energy in Taliyah's "did the earth move for you too? Did i say that out loud?" Towards ekko perfectly matches Rell's bi disaster energy, and a fic of Taliyah and Rell both trying and failing to flirt with ekko would be so hillarious

I feel like your point is really well-made simply by the fact I would not have guessed that's Rell's lore at *all*. I hadn't looked into it (I like going into these what's the deal videos blind), and there's really a lot of dissonance between story and character design. Absolutely fascinating.

Skyen excitedly talking about horses for 30 min, and I'm all for it

The thing with the spikes: If she rips out armor from the battlefield to make her horse and armor, most armor and weapons don't have all those sharp shards and what not- what she ended up with look likes she took it from buildings and armor and the thick iron weapons Noxus has.

I don't even play league of legends, but your reviews are so entertaining I can't avoid watching them

I would have liked to see her sigils, they are an important part of her story yet they aren't present in the character design. Too bad because I think they could have been an interesting part of her design. Maybe just show them in the animations or just in the ultimate, but show them, let me see the trauma that is the core of her story. If we think the sigils like tattoos I think they would have gone well with your idea of Rell too, she is just too clean.

I think the idea is that she has covered them with the metal on her arms which makes sense seeing as she likely wouldn't proudly display the symbol of the crimes done to her and her peers at the academy.

@@thechainwarden You could be right, but not showing even a bit of them the result is the same as ignoring the lore. It could have been done covering her complety (as to underline se hides her body)or showing patchwork , even just let us glance at a little in some area she didn' t cover well. Everything would have been more meaningfull in my opinion.

Riot actually stated that the metal bits on her arm ARE the sigils. Which... is not at all what the word sigil means.

This video format and editing was great! And that was one of the best intros in a while! The extra effort for this one definitely paid off imo.

I love the concept art section at the end of the video, I'd love to see this on other future character reviews featuring other artists!

I really liked the character "redesign" at the end. Would be cool if future videos had some of those too. As long as the content would benefit from it off course.

It'd be so awesome to see your re-imagining of Rell's design! She's my main and I fell in love with her as soon I saw her in the store. I think her re-design could be super fun and interesting to see!

Dropping some insight, as someone who is experienced in modeling, rigging, and animation 22:00 It's not actually as impressive as all that- looks like it was basically rigged like a normal, contiguous design with just a few extra bones for the individual plates, like you mentioned. 28:00 The rig most likely has the bone chains for the hind legs and spine made in a 'disconnected' fashion. That is, when making an armature for a rig, you can choose whether or not the bones are connected. By having them not be connected, the animator is able to move the bones around as they wish while still having them follow each parent bone like a normal connected bone chain. 30:00 The bits might not even spawn in, per se. If it were me I'd just have them always there, just with their scale set at 0 so they can't be seen normally.

Thanks again for the video T.B. Skyen, I loved it. I don't normally read any champion lore but I have to admit that when you were narrating Rell's story I muted you because I had to read the story for myself hahaha. As always, I can't express how much I enjoy your animation and character design breakdowns, they are just the right mix between a lecture from a knowledgeable professor and not taking it so seriously and laughing at "LONG RELL" hahaha. You are a cool professor. I shared this video with a close friend of mine who is studying animation at the moment, we'll see what he thinks. It is thanks to you, T.B. Skyen, that I don't feel as a complete dork whenever I'm talking with my friend about animation, character design, subtle storytelling, ... etc We plan on developing and maybe launching a simple videogame for fun this summer and I want you to know that If I'm putting anything into the creative design of it, most of it will come from what you have taught me so far. I really have the feeling that the lore department of riot games works almost completely independent from the rest. This would for one explain some of the dissonances between lore and design/gameplay. One the other this would open up the possibility to read some of the lore (seraphine *cough *cough) as hidden social-corporative criticism.

Skyen: happy with the horse animation Me: yeah they actually did a good job animating a horse shape and movement. Even without a "horse" present they managed to show the amount of motion and "muscles" it's spot on (normally horse animations in games are... not great) 😂

It made me sincerely really sad that rell to this day is generally forgotten, if only she was meta at release or something perhaps she could've been given more love. I can only hope that her update will make her more likeable or added at least to lor. The latter however seems unlikely because of Annie unless black rose has evil magical elementary AND high school

If I may also add a bit with the metal skirt animation. Not only can you tell that it's a power walk, but it also looks like the metal is walking with her. Like if you look at them form the side you can see the three plates on top of the bottom most section of the skirt, and they looks like toes. And you also can see that when ever she takes a stomp, that kind of metal elephant like leg is stomping with her like it is still a part of her body and not just armor like you said.

I agree with your points on Rell looking too "composed" or "balanced", I believe this is a consequence of the Rioters focusing on the horse forming her armor. However, based on your expectation of Rell's armor being emotional and roughly formed, would mean that there is no need for the horse to form her armor, and it could just be a different model, thus allowing for that uniqueness you claim Rell lacks. Another way to look at it, is that Rell's armor is made up of the metal and armor from Noxian soldiers and her old school, thus giving her that 'soldierly', and 'conformist' look makes sense narratively speaking, because she is using Noxus' power against them, as she herself is a weapon of the empire that has turn against them. Over all I believe it is a matter of which conceptual route they decided to take with Rell's character, and more appeal was found in the horse structurally becoming her armor. Also emotionally Rell's is not an anarchist on the same level as Sylas (even if it may be in the future of her character) as much as she is an angry teenager, a child wronged by the people that were supposed to care for her, yet as a child she has no where to go and thus must retain the identity of that from which she came, giving some credence to why as a rebellious character, there isn't much need for her to be a total opposite of Noxian design principles.

Im a main sup, and i really love that rell was added to the line. Annyways, i think that his abilities reflect very well his backstory. She was a child who wants friends and instead, he killing them without notice that... So, her link its a reflect of His efforts to be cooperative instead a solo legend

@@roa.reyescortes298 who's "he", rell is a lone rebel who got betrayed by the ppl she trusted the most, there is no indicator in her lore that indicates she wants company, she's emotionally devastated, yet her voicelines are very happy and her machanics make her dependant of someone else to do everything for her, she can't even use her whole kit by herself, her lore doesn't reflect her mechanics

as some one who loves character design or just...making characters...as an amateur, I really love Skyen's insight on the matters because it gives me the bonk on the gnoggin and go "OOOHHHH...I NEVER THOUGHT IT LIKE THAT!"

She's my favorite champion and my main :)))) Edit: I just turned 17, so I can talk about this. Teenagers' bodies grow differently from each other. I have friends who have a well more developed body than others. So I am confused why people think a 16-year-old girl needs to look like a 12-14-year-old girl???? Girls grow faster than boys, so our features (usually) appear at 13-15. It depends. For me, her body is perfectly fine.

Rell lance looks like a candy, I would say that it is another forbidden snack, but it doesn't do damage so you might as well bite it.

I really love the concept art featured in this video, and Rell is probably my favourite new champ Riot have made, next to Sett. I definitely agree with the points you made about her overall look not matching her motivation, so one thing that could be cool and tie into that would be a toggle of a helmet. It’d also tie nicely into her distrust of other people.

I LOVE the inclusion of Apple_cork's redesign based on your revisions to these videos, he is awesome and I love watching the work come alive while thinking about the commentary. very nice! Keep it up, both of you!!

So metal being twisted and yanked from the ground or the body's she has left behind would create heat. I would have loved to see that in her armor as hinted at in the artist rendition made by apple_core. Even a simple smoldering or smoke animation where parts of her floating armor or the horses head are orange or red would go a long way in showing the rage barely under controls. Her critical animation could have the hooves of the horse burn similar to her hair. I do understand that her hair would not stick out as much with this but it would have been a cool thing to try and balance.

I watched your Gwen vid earlier, and what you said about Gwen being like Isolde's princess-themed OC really stuck with me. When I saw AppleCork's Rell art, I got that exact same vibe - this was a 16 year old girl's perfect expression of the edgy 'sona about which she might fantasize. Effectively, this design kills two birds with one stone, because its spirit does read inherently younger to me! Great vid.

Definitely like getting an image of what you think could be a better realization of a character concept

The thing with Rell's dance is that it tells us something about the character power. Yes, it does look awesome and it acts like a real horse, but it ISN'T a real horse. Rell's so powerful that she not only controls metal, but bends it to its will, making it look like it got a mind of its own. Not all animations in League are able to show us something like that, and it makes Rell one of my favourites character in the game.

Happy TB Skyen gives me a HUGE serotonin boost

id love to see a version of Rell that started out with her base form and got progressively more armored as she stacked armor adding a new feature (more plates, a helmet, spikes, etc) for every 50-100 armor

40:38 she really does look like a cosplay of old mordekaiser, which i think it is a really good idea if i had to change anything from her, it would be that she can actually shape the metal on the fly, so she does have this big chunky armor pieces that will eventually become the horse, but are not necessarely a 1 to 1 transaltion to the horse form, this would give much more liberty to her design in both form although, i must admit, having the same pieces for both forms does have its merits and must be applauded, i just think in such a versatile champion, this little extra touch of versatility would fit well and give more creative expression to the designers

I like her design. Pretty unique, making 2 form that give off different vibes. About her age, I think 16 years old is pretty good, I mean I met girl that is really tall considering their age and her being awkward or not so much raging all the time ia good. It breaks the common stereotype of a dark moody character is scary and mad all the time.

also as far as the animation of Rell's horse-armor while I myself am not an animator I have multiple animator friends, and one of my favorite let's players is LITERALLY an animator for his main job so he gushes about and explains animation stuff all the time. my best guess as just someone whos seen/heard a lot about animations, is that something like Rell's horse ALONE, even if like...hard focusing on that and only that because, ya know, job rather than hobby, could potentially take something like a year. (any animators can feel free to correct me here) 3D modeling, rigging, and animation are all aspects of video games and movies that I feel goes WAY too underappreciated as a whole, as not enough people really grasp just HOW MUCH WORK goes into EVERY LITTLE DETAIL. it's truly mind boggling and it's part of why I would....kinda wanna be an animator someday. being able to tell such a great story without any words is just...such a cool thought to me (it's why I love Toothless from HTTYD so much. he never talks but he is animated SO well that you can tell his personality if he COULD talk easily. He's a giant derp, with a pretty big ego, but is still a great guy at heart and just tends to get full of himself. Hell, one of the best examples of a brief 'THIS is Toothless in a nutshell' is in the second movie when Hiccup jumps off him to show Valka his gliding, Toothless smirks at Cloudjumper and raises his eye ridges as if to say 'yup, that's MY rid-OHSHITWAITFUCKHENEEDSMETOHELPGOTTAGO' as his face just immediately widens along with his eyes before he darts downward..)

I love Rell's gameplay a lot. Design wise I agree some things could be improved on. First off I would add a face mask for the armored form because helmets are badass. And you made a good point there: the armour should look a bit kore spikey and rugged. Full of rust and stains. The mounted form is great tho. Also shame she has the same body type as other League women.

The thing about the horse breathing along with Rell reminds me of Cameron's Avatar, where Na'vi would connect and synchronize with their mounts

I really love the concept of Rell and now we need something like a Pentakill, heavy HEAVY metal aesthetic and have her scream her heart out on a track.

i recently started playing rell and, well to start, yeah i had no idea she was suppost to be 16, that took me by surprise. however her backstory really didnt surprise me, actually it felt like i already knew the entire thing just from her voice lines, any time you spawn she starts talking, and by the time you get to lane you know who she is and where she came from, its somewhat predictable but i like it. i also like how she continuasly talks about being alone, never trusting anyone and never letting anyone near her, yet shes a support, the single most co-dependent role in the game, but in the same vain where she doesnt want to let others get close to her, she has her horse which feels like its own character that she created to keep her company through her lonlieness. shes a very interessting character to me and im honestly kind of sad that she didnt really get any fanfare at all for her release.

Rell reminds me a ton about Cyborg from DC. In that respect, since her armor is forged from destruction of the institute, I kinda thought there should be some sort of more earthy element to her armor. Raw iron masheed and forged together to make something that could protect her and in that regard, oddly enough, she reminds me of the pokemon "Golem". I get that her theme is maybe Heavy Metal Pop Rebellion but in terms of the armor it could be more Rock n Roll.

reminds me of a canceled quest I saw on fiction live. Player character was a ferrokinetic as well, but otherwise a more traditional caster Edit: remembered that the quest was a LoL setting back during original Institute of War universe as some flavor of Noxian.

I'm really late with that, but just going through the videos from newest to oldest. After listening to her theme I can understand the design idea with no spikes, reasons? In her theme there is literally "thorns makes your downfall". My interpretation after looking on various noxus characters that spikes are mostly in their armour design. Rell as an rebel against Noxus could be trying to separate herself from Noxus esthetic, that is no spike in armor. For me it makes sense.

If it’s affordable (with support) would you consider doing more of these guest redesigns in future “can we talk about this” episodes? It feels like the perfect capstone to your discussions of champions which could be seen in an alternate way.

We also have the case that age does not determine height or size. For some people can be really tall and yet quite young. An example of this is that I have a friend who is taller than me and yet he is younger than me.

If you have an ad-blocker turned, the model viewer might not work.

Late to the party but equestrian here and the armour horse in indeed a DELIGHT to behold. The person in charge of the rig did an amazing job and really must have taken a long time to study the way horses move. The trot is exactly like that: opposite front and hind leg down, time up, and the other opposite get down. The plates forming the neck move just like a long mane would, the hindquarters part also roll the way hindquarters of a heavier-type horse would - heavier horses being typically associated with destrier-type knightly horses, which in Rell's theme. I'm overly excited by that design ngl. I only wish our girl and her iron pony were spikier, rougher, angrier in their style to show that She's Had Enough. Not gonna comment on the age issue though, because when I was 18 I was still mistaken for a 13yo, while my twin brother was thought to be 25 lol even now at almost 31, people still think i'm 20 something and i see teens who look older than me. Teen years are pretty damn wild when it comes to appearances. Though as a 16yo I defo had similar heeled low boots and ultra skinny jeans were in full swing sooooo 🫠

So, body of Garen, look of Camille, story more like Jinx post-Arcane (with the tragedy tweaked), and hints of politics of Ekko (reformer)

with the theme of rell, i think it's important to listen to the entirety of it first, as there are definitely as much calm parts as there are heavy metal parts.

Hi! I'm a Rell main! And I can understand the dissapointment at riot for Rells body type but at the same time I don't agree that she looks like an adult woman, in fact I liked her body type because it reminded me of when I was 16 years old, yes, Rell is a child but I looked like her when I was a 16 year old child, what sells to me that Rell is in fact a child are her voice lines and her animations, character design is more than just her looks and what idea those give. It's true that if you just look at her outfit and armor you don't get the idea of a raging teen, marching to kill or die. The idea the it gives is that of a soldier, marching because that is how they have been trained. But if you pair the armor, the outfit and her voice lines, then every breath, every step feels filled with rage. Yet her voice lines also painfully remind you that she is a child, a young child, a hurt child, a scared child that will do everything in her power to make sure other children don't have to feel the way she did, the way she does. As for her outfit, I actually think she looks like that because that was the academies uniform, a military academy has to have a military uniform. In a military academy all students had to follow military procedures, so we have to stand straight, march went told with our eyes straight in front of us.

Love the use of the 3D models throughout the video!

That concept at the end would make a nice skin, mainly with the helmet

I wasn't playing league at the time of rell, and when I saw her I thought of her as a (awkward) fallen noxian elite soldier with a revenge but purpose. I quite like how she is portrayed in game, it isn't even that edgy as well, which felt nice to me. About the discrepancy between her lore and in-game design. It could work with a follow up story where she meets Darius, gets into a stalemate with him, yells at him about her past, which should resonate with him, if I get his character right. They team up, she gets more military training under his tutorage, etc etc. Though it might just turn into Taliya and Yasuo part 2...

I was hoping for a much bulkier design. I wanted an A1 Abrams and what I got was a supermodel.
