I want to thank everyone who stopped to answer this question... this episode wouldn't be possible without YOU. Thank you for your kindness in stopping to hear me out and your braveness in answering the question. I try to put as many answers as I can in the episode, however, not every answer goes on the page. Please know that if your answer is not in the episode, it does not take away from the importance of your story. There are many outside variables that determine the order and answers that go in the episode. Things like duration, flow, variety in answers, ensuring a diverse range of voices, overall feel of an episode, and sometimes background noise, or other audio and visual problems. I love you all. Thank you ❤

I relate to the girl who said "people take deer-in-headlights as naive". I read a lot, I think a lot, and I can read people well. I wouldn't trade any of it for social acceptance or for the ability to fit in. I heard a quote once: "The hardest thing for a writer's wife to understand is that when he's staring out the window - he's working." Don't dismiss the quiet wallflowers. They're observing and processing. They're likely some of the more interesting people you will talk to....if you can get them talking. 🙂

@@Misana It's an obscure reference: I heard it in an interview with Neil Peart - the drummer for the band Rush. He was quoting someone else. I just looked it up and found this: "What no wife of a writer can ever understand, no matter if she lives with him for twenty years, is that a writer is working when he's staring out the window." - Burton Rascoe I think I like Neils version better - with the "he's working" part almost like a punchline. Hope that helps.

I feel this, I really do. People see my kindness and patience as something to take and run with but know that I actively chose and fought myself to be kind and patient through every last painful and harsh event that I have gone through. My kindness and patience are the few things I hold above anything else, because being cold and cruel would only turn me into the people and things that wanted me to be just like them, just so I could be miserable like them. It's okay to feel anger, it's okay to feel sadness, it's okay to feel resentment towards those that hurt or harmed you, but never lose sight of the kindness and patience you possess. That is the one thing others will envy you for that they don't have and will try and do whatever they can to bring you down to their level. As the saying goes, "Misery loves company." Be mindful of that, and as I always say, things will even out as they go along, be patient and you'll see to it that it does.

@@koellekind As a marine biology student I can assure you that keeping fish as pets can be done very well. Fish will be happy if all their natural needs are met, such as ample space, stimulation, hideouts, adequate nutrition, scavenging hunting and to some extent possibility to mate. The fish will not feel trapped or sad if all these needs are met. I can agree that the aquarium industry can be very disgusting and harmful which is why I encourage people to buy from local, small scale breeders. But fish can most definitely be kept successfully as pets with enough knowledge and interest. I'd say you have a bigger possibility of giving fish a happy and fulfilling life in an adequate habitat than doing so for a dog or a cat

There’s this fish girl on KZread (if I can remember and find her I’ll come back and comment her profile name here). Anyway, she rescues fish. I’ve seen her go to pet stores and she’ll buy the fish that are knocking on death’s door… Then she brings them home and nurses them back to health. She treats their water with the right PH/acidity, salts, and chemicals, identifies and treats their health issues, gives them adequate tanks with everything you described, all their needs and comforts are met. Anyway, it’s so incredible to see these little fish do a 180! I’m talking about one fish was floating upside down and he was white/grey (when he was supposed to be vibrant orange. They had him in the wrong water at the store… slowly and painfully killing him 🤬🥺) and she somehow nursed that fish back to health! She’s awesome. Plus she teaches us while posting the videos. I still remember things from back when I was 7 months old and older I’m 17. Whenever I’ve brought up memories from before my first birthday (and on my first birthday and beyond) to my grandparents and mom, they’d get shocked because they can’t remember back in their childhoods past ages 3 and 4. Anyway, I describe my memories of my toddler days to them as vividly as they remember them happening. I’m also on the autism spectrum and had excelled in all my school subjects-especially music and math-but ADD had made it horribly difficult to focus and keep my head in the game. I still struggle with that part, but homeschooling makes it easier than public schooling was in kindergarten through 7th grade. I still feel super alone socially, but as I grow up more, I find it easier to connect with people who’re on the same/similar boat as I’ve been on my whole life-I’m half black, so I make up like 15% of the minority population in this town.😂 Living at the end of the road in Alaska, it’s far more challenging to find people with similar interests or hobbies, and being born on September 1st has made it hard because you have to be 5 BEFORE then to start kindergarten here. That means I have to wait till I’m 18 and a half to be able to legally graduate and go to the music school I want to go to. I’d love a scholarship, but making progress on that road is a lot harder when you don’t have Broadway lessons of any kind-particularly for girls who are trying to learn how to belt-in a 200 mile radius of where you live. I just have to wait and see how this plays out with me practicing as much as possible to improve.🤞🏾

The woman in social services who also uses services - I get it. I'm homeless now but was a social worker who worked with homeless women. It's an odd experience to be on both sides of the fence, esp bc a lot of people demonize the homeless.

Shoutout to the community resource worker for naming a challenge that some many of us our shamed into not admitting or go into debt to avoid. We need you! So many narcissist personalities are in recovery or community work for all the wrong reasons. So nice to hear someone that isn’t a “hero” but realistically wants to support others while humbling admitting you need the same services. This work deserves better pay!

There's nothing i hate more than people who start fires in forests... but you got to have respect for a person who has put action (not just words) into redeeming himself. Keep going! Also the fish guy - love that! You're right, fish deserve to have a nice home too. Thats cool man.

I don't get shocked to learn anything about people. Everyone has amazing stories and it's just a matter of asking and being open to listening. What I don't understand is how some can be cruel or close-minded to people without truly knowing anything about them and just based on their appearance.
