UFC need to go to Spain with a champion. They aren't risking Ilia losing to anyone before that. So Ilia will be forced to wait till the Spanish PPV event, which is unlikely to be soon. Ilia will likely fight just one more time this year. He's never fought more than twice in a year.

Alex used the same gameplan against Illia, which he used against Max in the trilogy fight, and it was stupid considering that Illia fights in an orthodox stance only and it became easier to connect on Alex. Also, should have wrestled early on to tire out Illia's arms and used head kicks during the clinch breakups and stayed mostly in the middle distance.

Ilia is from my hometown Alicante, so I was rooting for him. It was really hard though as Volk has been my favourite fighter since the 2nd Holloway fight. Volkanoski has been one of the greatest champions ever.

Best response??? Saying that he wasnt himself in this fight??? Another excuse by a CKB fighter or affilated with that team! You got knocked out cold because Ilia is younger, hits like a truck, is more well rounded and unfortunately after your ko loss to Islam and combined with your age, your time as champion has come to an end. The denial is real which means he will never learn from this loss and he will get put to sleep in even more empatic fashion if he fights in a rematch!

When Charley olives was champ I always said that that was volks chance to take lightweight belt also. And at the time I reckon he had a very good chance of doing so. I don’t think he’s done and believe he can get his feather back but sadly the time is ticking away. Regardless of if he does or he doesn’t what he has done in the octagon is outstanding. True martial artist nd mentor for young up and comers for years to come. Good on topieria but I guarantee he won’t hold a candle to volks reign of dominance through the years. Both incredible fighters but volk is/was and always will be one to remember

i think all the people who were the greatest in their sports always had a comeback, but this one feels a bit strange, when i think about the fight then i felt like volkanovski tried to win by decision and win with points, while tuporia was just dominant with every punch or kick there was so much power, i think he should take a break and fight some other guy, leave tuporia and the belt alone for quite a while, nothing in that fight was telling me ''its a close one'' every step tuporia made towards volkanovski was so dangerous for him, while nothing volkanovski did was dangerous to tuporia at all.
