Just got a 2024 Outback. Definitely not a performance car, especially with the non-turbo engine, but that's not why I got it. It's a quiet smooth riding car that handles very well. I do wish a few of the functions that are on the 11 inch screen were available as buttons or knobs, but you can adapt easily to them being on the touch screen. Bottom line is that I am very happy with the Outback.

That's good to know. For me it came down to the minimal towing capacity and meh MPG for the Outback vs CRV Hybrid (pretty much zero towing except for a hitch mount bike rack- which while zippy to drive was surprisingly underwhelming and I'm used to the lower to the ground feel. So Outback it is. Now we just have to find a dealership that doesn't make me cringe so hard my back hurts. lol

Love my 2020 Outback however loved my partners 2018 better. Peppier and more leg room and storage space for some like me at 6ft7. We both drive Ascents now but would still love to have an Outback side wagon one day. Question: did they add rear vents to the premium. First thing I did when I got my 2015 Outback new was order the sheepskin seat covers from Costco. 8.5 years later the drivers side cover is beat up, and I plan to wash them then switch sides putting them back on. The sheepskin seat covers not only protect the upholstery but also insulate the seats from hot and cold very well and add a more comfortable soft touch. I am waiting out a correction in the automotive market to add a new Outback while keeping the old one. The daily supply on these was only 9 days last week and that leaves the buyer in an unfavorable position in a sellers market.

Good job of reviewing the Outback. Glad Mason is able to give us a real-world measurement of the length of the cargo area with his handy dandy tape measure. Subaru gives a measurement of 75 inches, but you never know where the front seats are located when they take that measurement. I know with you the measurement is done with the front seat positioned for Drew, who is a normal height person and close to my height. So the 78 inch measurement you come up with is the number I'm looking for.

I just got a 2024 Limited XT, I had the 2020 before. They made great strides with this one. Wireless smart phone connections, heated steering wheel is now 100% around the steering wheel and the heated seats are easier to work (no second pop up screen). I got the remote start on this new one, it is disappointing that it requires a second FOB (the main FOB also auto starts but you have to be really close for it to work). That remote start system is an extra $370.00 USD but in Canada where I am, the cost is $710.00 CAD ($522.00 USD). They should ask me to put my hands in the air when they sell it because it does feel like I am being robbed for that system!

There’s a lot of foolish comments on here . Firstly, before you make rash judgements go and drive the Outback - it is one of the best reliable cars that are made today. If you want more power try the turbo- oh it’s boring? Drive that and you be shocked. Station wagon boring? Oh and having a SUV like 95% of Americans is not boring? Subarus all wheel drive is awesome - with snow tires it handles any snow and never gets stuck. The cladding is for off road - branches and stones wrecking your paint. The leather seats are excellent and since it’s long the car rides very smooth. I throw 3 big dogs in the back and it goes anywhere. It’s a great practical car - just disable the Auto Start it’s horrible!

The power isn't as much as the new ones but I am sure it's still somewhat slow given its weight. I would buy the new one though in a heartbeat. It's a nice wagon that isn't overpriced like the Swedes and German counterparts. I just wish Toyota would make a wagon for the US market. That would be amazing

That was a good review... Here it comes... But, you talked a bit about taking it off road, carrying kayaks, camping, etc. I would like to know if the seats fold flat enough to sleep in the back, and when sleeping in the back can you sit up? Also I believe you said the tow weight was 2000 lbs, but you flashed 2700 lbs on the screen, which is it? and finally, what size is the receiver? Not for towing, but for putting an 80 pound E-Bike on a carrier (not a trailer), 80lbs bike + 60 lbs carrier is a lot of weight bouncing on a 1-1/4" receiver. is it a 2" receiver? Once again, a good review, thanks.

They should have a model or option for cladding delete. On the ice silver and sapphire blue, and a couple other color options, it is less noticeable. That ice color is certainly better than your average silver -- brighter! Crimson red and the metallic green is nice. Of course the dark gray blends in, but I have that on my car, and will be seeking change -- change is good. :)

Until Subaru fixes the electronic issues with center console crashing and going blank I would not suggest it. I just sold my 2020 outback XT as they will not allow customers to update software remotely and spending 2-3 hours at a dealership every time you want to update to try and address glitches is not acceptable. Also if you want the upgraded sound system you better do it at the day of purchase. Subaru corp is saying they are not allowing rockford fostgate upgrades only new purchases on the date of sale. The stock audio system ... um yep its stock... the harmon is very Nice but be aware its only on specific trims. One other thing... I REALLY with they would get rid of the Piano black around the shifter... 6 months into ownership you are going to see every ... single... scratch.

I love the integrated infotainment system that looks like it was done on purpose, not just an iPad stuck on the dashboard (looking at you, Mazda, and others!). That said, I just generally find the features and performance of other vehicles better (like my current 2016 Mazda CX-5). I like the cladding, but the new trim under the headlights looks like the car's mascara is running, especially against the white paint. 😜 I hope that they offer a plug-in hybrid option down the road as that is what I really want my next vehicle to be.

The 2023 outback Touring XT only gets 18.5mpg in city only driving. My 68 year old wife only drives it to work about 9 miles one way. I don't know anyone who gets the epa 23 "combined" especially if you don't drive any freeway. I even put the tires at 40psi to try to improve it: it worked; it used to get 17.5mpg. It is what it is. More power in a 4 cylinder 3,800lb car via a turbo uses more fuel. There is no way around physics.

I easily get 20+ mpg with our '22 Outback XT in city driving, can easily hit 23mpg on mixed, and I'm not a slow driver. Depends on your driving habits.

To keep things simple, why didn’t Subaru simply manufacture only the 2.5L Boxer engine, and then offer that as a turbo and non-turbo option? Seems that would simplify the assembly line.

What is Subaru’s take on hybrid options for it’s most popular models? By-the-way, I leased a 2018 Outback Touring. I liked the car, although I had a problem with the rear gate that took the dealership several months to fix (they finally figured out that there was a problem with the cables under the driver’s seat; plus I had troubles with the car battery). Personally, I would like Subaru to update their exteriors by getting more bold with the design. Also, the dash and the interior in general is boring.

I just picked up my Outback Touring XT & love it. Driving on the interstate is so much smoother and quieter than my 2019 touring (which we kept). I am so impressed with this 2024. The vented (AC) front seats are fabulous. We live in the hot south. Love the new front view camera. I would like to see a video on the 2024 please! This is our 4th Outback and each one gets better!

After my 2021 crosstrek cvt giving out and continously giving me problems, I don't think I am sticking with subaru anymore. Mazda gives you way more power and way more features for less price

  • @anthonyng3014

Mazda doesn't give you way more power for less price. The turbo 2.5L in current Mazda lineup have 10 less hp and 40 more peak torque, which gives a 0-60 within 0.1s of the turbo 2.4L in the Outback. On regular fuel, the Mazda is actually slower by an estimated 0.4s for 0-60. The price for a similar spec'd Mazda turbo and Outback turbo is within 5% here. Now let's start on the Mazda's shortcomings: torsion bar rear suspension, non full-time AWD, needing premium fuel to reach those performance numbers (regular fuel results in a noticeably slower vehicle than the 2.4L turbo in the Subaru), and much decreased visibility all around.

They need to ditch the CVT. I wouldn’t touch one with a ten foot pole. I don’t trust the boxer engines either. They have a tendency to develop oil leaks, burn oil, and blow head gaskets. They should put a Toyota powertrain in these and call it a day. The car is great otherwise. Toyota owns an interest in Subaru.
