Seriously would love to have lunch with this guy and listen to his stories. Seems like a super nice guy.
"I've never seen one like that." "It's pretty rare." Best set of lines, ever.
This would have made a great TV commercial: “Is this a Ferrari?" "No. It’s a BMW." "I've never seen one like that." "It's pretty rare." And what made me laugh out loud was that out of everyone who he came across, it was the young Hooter's girl who didn’t need an explanation.

The M1, particularly with the Procar treatment is one of the coolest obscure supercars. Glad to hear that the ownership is even stranger than I thought.

Ed Bolian The rusty jones car was my favorite while I was working in the pits for the Daytona 24. I also drove in the Glenn 24 firehawk race. But the owner wouldn’t let us drive it to hard in order to finish the race with only 1 brake pad change. We made it last 22 hours on that set of pads, but we finished.

"Not a very powerful engine" talking about a 3.5 l six cyl at over 270 hp when a base Vette with 5 l V8 didn't even reach 200. Gotta remember the competition and time.
One of my favorite story tellers by far. I lost my grandfather when I was 9, and he used to talk about old buicks and Oldsmobiles, and take me for rides in his blue in blue new Yorker. Everything he used to tell me, went way over my head, but now when I watch this guy tell his stories, I feel like I'm 9 again but I understand what he's talking about finally lol

Derpy McDerpster I don’t see it as transphobic, I’d say he just wasn’t sure how to address the subject. Bruce Jenner was the one who actually drove the M1, but he has since changed his name/sex, so he probably just isn’t sure what to say since Caitlyn didn’t technically drive the car.
Bill's the type of total stranger you casually chat with for hours at a car show and later become good friends with. Such great stories from a hell of a story teller.
I like bill he is one of those guys you could listen to for hours even as a young kid. The kinda guy you would have as a neighbor and just stop by to talk with. Good memories for sure. We need to see more bill!

I’ve been lucky enough to see a couple, one was at a car show in Belfast Northern Ireland, always loved them so was so happy to see it, the one thing that surprised me was how small it was. The other car I seen was at the F1 Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in 2007 and it was a full original Pro-Car, it was an absolute beast!

Jrad's Edits I did an apprenticeship and subsequently worked at a small bmw shop in Germany in the mid 80’s to mid 90’s. The boss of the tuning shop in the back had one. It had flat spots on all tires from the brakes being locked up before hitting a semi after driving top speed at 3 am since traffic prevented that during the day even on unrestricted autobahns. There surprisingly wasn’t much other than fiberglass damage so the car was sent to the M1 specialists in Munich for restoration. A $10,000 + white paint job with the M colors stripe across the car and it was sold. Also had the pro series massive wing and BBS custom wheels. Still have photos of the awesome car.

Who's that? Rodney Dangerfield? No, that's Bill Warner. He's pretty rare.
I grew up about 20 mins from Watkins Glen, and remember going to those Firehawk 24 hours at the Glen races when I was a kid. They were always my favorite races. Seeing the cars coming into the 90 from Pitroof, with their rotors glowing red was such a thrill as a young car guy. I'd LOVE to hear more Firehawk/Escort series stories from Bill, if he's willing to tell them!
Love the story telling. I'll have to wear my Rotary pin more often. The bell curve theory, with age of the buyer as a factor, makes so much sense.
There are definitely more than 1 or 2 turbocharged ones in Germany right now. I have seen quit a few of them, racing on the Nürburgring over the past couple of years, they are pretty easy to spot since they spit fire every time they are breaking. Apparently they run about 700hp and sound amazing.

Great stories. Loved fact that Hooter girl knew the M1. Race car story also great - glad the driver survived.
"it's pretty rare.." 🤣 so subtle about it
Back in the '90s I worked with a guy who bought an M1 with no engine from a junkyard for $25k. He fixed it up and drove it for a few years, then sold it for $125k to a guy who followed him into a parking lot to look at it.
I just saw an M1 but I thought it said M7 on the freeway on my commute a few days ago. I was surprised to see bmw emblems on it but I didn't disagree since I know there's a lot of special cars out there.
"like a high-end kit car". So essentially it IS a Ferrari.

Another brilliant Bill Warner story! The M1 is amazing
This guy is gold - so relaxed - tells you stories you want to hear !! I feel Like I could listen to this guy talk all day. I could just see sitting down with him, asking questions and having the time of my life. Thanks so much for sharing !!!
😂 “Bruce Jenner..... 🧐 Kaitlyn Jenner.. Whatever Jenner” lol
I grew up working at BMW dealership in Chicago NW suburbs. One of our customers had a red M1 with 20k miles. And he did a frame off restoration of a 2002 in green with tan leather and gold bbs wheels for his son. Both awesome cars.
I went to Sbarro design in Switzerland back in the early 90's and was given a tour of the facilities. Among all of the wacky one off design concepts, they had 20-30 BMW M1's scattered around the collection. Some complete, some just shells. I was 15 at the time and the design student giving me the tour was impressed I knew what they were. Those were the first M1's I had ever seen and likely the last. You know bc "they're pretty rare". The car that always stuck out to me was the one off Sbarro Monster. It was this huge Kevlar bodied. 2 door off road truck with massive rims off a 747 jet. It reminded me of an Isuzu Amigo on steroids. One of those once in a lifetime experiences.
Bill is always a fantastic guest. His delivery of stories are just so easy to enjoy with a wealth of knowledge and detail. He's not trying to impress but you can't help but hang on each word. The kind of owner who used to Cars & Coffee gatherings fun with conversations.
Bill here is a raconteur... he's got me thinking I want to join rotary.
Amazing story, especially the bmw m1...love it, andy warhol's painted car no 76,was on display in malaysia in 2000s...at the petronas twin tower...was really happy that i saw the car and too pics with it
One of my favorite M1 stories was: The Lamborghini connection. They had to go and break in to the plant to get the body molds back, because Lamborghini had gone into receivership, and the receivers wanted to claim the molds as their own.
The old dog is so funny 🤣😂🤣
Love hearing stories about the 1LE Camaros.
I can’t lie. I could listen to Bills stories all damn day. You keep that old Caddy and cruise that bad boy. Awesome.
Bill is the best! I love when he is on and I’m a huge m1 fan being a bmwfanboy especially after selling them for 7 plus years between 2004-2012 which in my opinion one of the best periods for BMWs line of cars/suvs.
Bills is like a grandpa version of vinwiki lol his stories are amazing to hear before bed or to sit around a camp fire at lol
Omg the way he told the first 3 minutes of "yeah it's pretty rare..." was GOLDEN. Great video and great story!
Great knowledge from this guy. I was reading about the M1 recently, and the only thing I noticed that he was close to a mistake on was that the car was originally planned to compete in Group 5, but rule changes during production made it Group 4.
Bill Warner is just the best. He'd be great for the next Q & A session. He has decades of experience & stories.
My new favorite episode, the M1 is such a great and under appreciated car, and Bill is such a likable individual.

Beautiful story about a beautiful car. Thank you!

That's why I love vinwiki the cars stories are cool
I could listen to this man talk for hours. Great video!
Love your stories!
More of this man please!
Another awesome story, good stuff!👍
Sounds like a great guy Bill. He went from talking about the M1 to a Camaro. I feel like this could be two videos. Only reason i know about this Camaro is he mentioned it in his previous video on this channel. I think he really likes that Camaro more than he lets on. Either that, or he likes to ramble on a bit. Still, he tells interesting stories. I feel compelled to listen.
In Dallas had a dealer selling M1 back 1983 .I took my Dad to look at car to buy it. Took me weeks get my Dad look at it.. He said the same thing with the fit finish. He did not like it and it was slow for price. We pulled up in 79-930 turbo and everything was slower. We had 72 Pantera back in garage that look like it but with 350 hp. 1/4 price. I was very disappointed but he was correct after watching this video.
Wonderful Story!!
Great story from a fantastic story teller. 😊
Wow nice video, was wondering where did the m1 story went but in the end,i got to listen two great stories in one video !
Won a couple of hot laps at Lime Rock Park in a Procar M1 at the vintage race weekend about 15 years ago. It was awesome. If I remember correctly David Donahue was the driver. Instantly became my favorite BMW.
Stories like these are what got me hooked on vine imo channel
M1 is an amazing beast of course I clicked
I will never forget seeing a brand new blue M1 in Munich back in early 1980. I was barley 9 years old and remember making my dad find a poster like Bill mentioned.
In the 90’s, I talked to a guy who drove one to a vintage track day. Said they were running the heat on high the whole way on a hot summer day to keep it from over heating. He admitted it was a hard car to live with, but so cool!
I love this guy! He's every car guys dream grandpa!!
I can only hope that I'm still having that much fun in 30 years. Great stories - I'd love to buy him a couple of beers and just listen.
