My father in law GAVE me his 04 Colorado crew cab z714x4 about 10 years ago with 112 thousand miles on it. It currently has 283000 and some change. Runs great, pulls fantastic, and gets awesome gas mileage. Change your oil like you should and keep your maintenance up to date and it should last for many years and many miles.

I had a White '05 Colorado Z71 2wd ext cab for five years and put a lot of miles on it, hard miles. It was a workhorse! It's actually an inline 5 cylinder engine, and it has a very unique sound, its almost like the sound of the v-10 in the viper when you stop on the skinny pedal, especially if you upgrade the intake to a k&n. I miss that sound.

That engine is 5 cylinder in line, not V6... This gen have a V8 engine as an option in models 2009 and 2010. I have a 2012 with a 3700cc also 5 in line and it drives very smooth.

Yeah, I noticed that too. My '05 Colorado Z71 4X4 is pushing 250,000 miles on it's FIVE cylinder inline engine and still gets right at 40mpg on the highway and 30+ around town.....And it's my "beater" truck.

40 mpg on the highway? I have an 07 and get around 21 to 23 on the highway, less than that around town. Maybe you had a misprint or you have the smaller engine?

@@univac7677 I have the in line five cylinder engine in my '05 Colorado Z71 and I get an easy 40mpg on the highway on a regular basis. The truck has it's problems that I could throw money at but why should I? I wanted a "beater truck" and it met, and continues to meet, my needs/requirements while giving a very pleasant surprise in the MPG department. I change the oil on time and keep the tires properly inflated, don't tow anything with it (our 2014 crew cab RAM Hemi 4X4 does any towing or "heavy" hauling when we need those two jobs done) and I have yet to exceed the Colorado's cargo weight.

@@univac7677 I get good service from my old Colorado. Should it "roll over and die" so to speak, I would be hard pressed to find another truck that met our fixed income limits but I would be tempted to go with a high mileage Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator, or maybe a Ford Ranger. Another Colorado? Possibly, but only IF it was in at least as good a condition as my current truck and a one previous owner like mine is. By the way, all evidence points to the previous owner towing something fairly heavy on a regular basis and utilized the bed for hauling. But it's also evident that he or she maintained the truck pretty well indeed. In other words I got, really, really lucky when The Lovely Bride and I found the Colorado on a local lot with a price tag that we could afford. Thanks for your kind reply by the way

I can't say too much about it being a 6-cylinder. I could write a book. I know everybody's got their own crazy going on. I'm just amazed to be facing some of the things that I'm going through right now in my life and I thought I seen it all and get it all and I got the T-shirt. I had to comment because I had went through one hell of a test in life and coming out of it was the first step was getting another ride because I had just got my disability started and I had gave up looking in town for anything that I wanted for used vehicle and the last car lot that we passed on the way back home had a white GMC 2005 Canyon with 186,000 miles on it it was lighting the day I wanted to drive it the guy hops in with me I hadn't got no more than 500 ft and could not be doing no more than 30 miles an hour in it at this point and I had decided I wanted that damn truck. With disability I was making investment for the rest of my life. The first thing I asked was what was underneath the hood and that ol boy told me 5 cylinder. Now I didn't say too much and just kept my thoughts to myself that this old boy wants to tell jokes. I've drove a V8 anybody knows that drove a V8 if they're sitting behind the wheel of some American Muscle. I just kind of Let It Go I asked how much they wanted I threw in the cash offer he went back to the lot and talk to his boss they come out about 10 minutes later they were ready to do a deal and I was too. I fell in love with that damn truck first thing I've done was I put it in the shop and had it gone through with a fine-tooth comb and had everything fixed. And then it was stolen the last October and I've been sick about it ever since. With the truck free and clear I was going to try to buy a home as I've been working on my credit to buy a home and I had to turn around and if you working with furniture for a side job after disability you got to have a truck and I wasn't going to settle for anything other than what I had and I was pissed over my truck. I've been on a nationwide search since the first of the year and on my bank's ass about signing me up on a loan. Man I couldn't have jumped over the moon about six times before things pulled itself together and I found me another Canyon this time it was on the other side of the damn United States but I bought it anyway and it got shipped to me this week it wasn't 2005 by got me a 2009 I stepped up in the world I guess. But those 5 cylinders that GM put enough damn trucks I have to say they are a shocking breath of fresh air. The dude wasn't joking it was a 5-cylinder so I guess the joke was on me but is a damn good truck. And that POS too damn sorry to work and buy his own he'll never know how proud it would be to sit behind your own ride with a 5 in it. This one cost me twice this much and I've got to make payments on it I don't have the option to throw the cash out credit to debt ratio. I've got six years of payments I won't have a place to work on furniture. I have my home in one storage unit at a new trade for a source of income in another storage unit that's the only option I can come up with right now is I guess I will see if there's some kind of camper I can come up with. I like the title that you had on this and mine had over 220,000 on it when it was stolen. Then it was a damn good truck I hated to lose it. You know it's rare to find a good truck in good shape and a good deal. It reminded me so much better times in my life when the First new truck I ever bought was a white 93 S10 to have a white 05 Canyon the kick around my golden years was really a the jester from the heavens that was a nice gift. I didn't mean to write a book. I just happen to run across this because everything on my phone knows to search GMC Chevy Canyon Colorado. And I know the video was posted a year ago. I want to say thank you because somebody put that 5-cylinder with 220,000 miles on it and showed it off that's because the five cylinders is a damn good motor if it's taking care of like any vehicle that that 5-cylinder they can hold out for some years in mileage. Good job buddy. I wouldn't say I'm crazy about cars but I've had cars over the years but I'm a truck man I remember the day that I bought it too. Don't get me wrong I like the one I just had shipped 1000 miles across the country and it's got the package that mine didn't have it had to top it. But I don't know I think I'm always going to miss that 05. Incase I failed to mention I bought a 2009 GMC Canyon crew cab 4WD with only 115,960 miles on it. I ran it over 116000 last night. And I did I pulled out every damn stop there was to find this truck and I kept the internet hot looking for the best when I could get my hands on it's got to last me at some point I still plan on trying to buy them home. What's sad this one with less miles has got more wear and tear on it than my 05

1st gen Colorado had the 2.8 (04-07), 2.9 (07-12) inline 4, and 3.5 and 3.7 inline 5 respectfully. 09-12 had an option for a 5.3 V8, which are a bit rare. No V6 in this generation, or an inline 6. The trailblazer SUV and it's sister brands got the inline 6 which was related to the inline 4 and 5 found in the colorados. They are very reliable motors, it's a shame GM only ran them in a single generation of vehicles. They had a lot of potential. Edit: Probably should of read the entire comment, but yes they were amazing trucks.

I found one nearby (Z85, 5 cyl, 2006, 4x4) with only 84k miles on it ($11.5k). Super interested in it, but I hear so many horror stories about the engine and the stupid AC solenoids that I'm kinda leery about even going to look at it. My 07 Tahoe has 219K on it and is starting to show some issues with the tranny that I just simply don't want to deal with.
