My Volt kept estimating my electric range at 72 miles based on my daily driving. After 2 months with the Volt, we finally had a chance to test it last weekend. We drove 74.5 miles, all electric. The last 4 miles showed electric range of 0 miles, but the car kept on going with the engine in deep sleep. Good going, Chevy.

It was not set to Km's, guaranteed. It is not exactly stop/go, but average speed less than 30 mph in normal suburban driving. No rapid acceleration, no over the limit driving.

This is def by fat the best overview videos for Volt that I've seen. I definitely appreciate the emphasis on family friendliness. Our family is looking into possibly purchasing first-ever hybrid/plug-in vehicle and there is a lot to learn in terms of family fit for your commuting/driving style. Thanks for putting this informative piece together.

Loving my 2017. 12,400 miles with 73 mpg lifetime, 40% of my driving on electric. In the past 30 days I've driven 777 miles, 48% on electric combined 92 mpg. This thing is awesome.

Adam Harding you can but I highly recommend going gas (go to modes. Hold.) and use electric for the city where itll work best! It has great gas mileage

You're thorough but not overly verbose. You've incidentally duplicated my current family conditions (two children). You've usefully provided examples of storage and usage. Thank you very much. Thank you for this video. The charger plug has an alarm once you lock your car. Once anyone tampers with the plug your car alarm will go off. Alsoif you look at the plug it has a little hole that you can put maybe a luggage lock on or something of that nature. I have the 2016 Volt. Ive but 8,500 mi. 55mpg over life time. got it Dec 16 2015.

I've had my 2018 Volt Premier for a week, totally loving it and haven't used any gas yet!! Great car.

I have a 2018 Chevy VOLT PREMIER. I bought it used online and it arrived at 68320 miles. This morning I drove it 98.7 miles on the gas engine only. I put the car on Hold and ran the engine in a round trip. When I got back I stopped at a gas station and put in just over one gallon of gas…..clicking the handle several times. We are planning a trip from Florida to North Carolina and reading the on-screen manual I discovered that for best millage put the car in the hold mode, use the cruise whenever possible, and try not to use the electrical features like the A/C or heater, turn off the heated seats as soon as possible. No range anxiety here. Love this car.

Gas was costing me about $200. each month. With my Volt, I spend about $3 on gas each month. I can afford that!

@@presence5426 It's honestly the best vehicle in snow and ice that I have ever owned. I'm in Cold lake Alberta and we get a lot of snow here. These things have very good center of gravity and our tanks in slippery conditions. I have never even considered chains or studs. All you really need is a good set of winter tires.

Quite a decent review of this second gen Volt. Hearing that anyone who would potentially be in the market for this type of vehicle...generally not having to use much or any gas is certainly a real world plus. So much for the dream of a restored 'muscle car' in my retirement years! Next vehicle is likely to be at least a hybrid, if not a full EV.

+Joshua Pritt Funny, I was checking the "Zombie 222" out a few weeks ago. I just picked up a 2nd gen volt last week. It's parked next to my 1971 Camaro RS in need of restoring. A lot ideas floating around in my head. Future meets past.

We were looking at a used Tesla but we only drive about 35 miles commuting per day. This means the Volt can be in EV mode almost all the time except long drives. Also, I always see people standing around waiting for their Tesla's to charge up here in Kingman, AZ a major charging stop between LA, Vegas, and Phoenix. With the Volt, you fill up and go. Much more convenient in my opinion. My wife just bought a 2017 Volt Premier edition today with only 10k miles for $24k. It looks and even still smells brand new. Now she can park the Lexus LX570 SUV that gets 13mpg and use it when she needs it and use the Volt for her daily commute to work. The amount she will save on gas will easily pay for more than half of the Volt and keep miles off the Lexus, a win-win!!

I had first gen volt 2012 drove it to 236,000 kms lifetime average fuel on dash read 2.3 litre per 100. Great car!!! Now I have 2019 volt premier purchase it used with 42,000 kms. Love it especially the 7.2 kw charge capability full charge in 2.3 hrs. It’s rated at 85 but I usually get over 100 almost every charge!!!! I love this car so far!!! On gas approx 20 km per litre ! Wow how cheep to drive! 👍🏻

6:08 "All you need is a dekkal." Never heard it pronounced that way before! Anyway, nice car. Really nice. Ultimately, for my needs I decided to go for full electric because I rarely drive more than 30 to 50 miles in a day, and when I do I have DC fast charging available if necessary (used 2016 Kia Soul EV+). I just want to be completely done with gas and all the complexities of a mechanical ICE engine that can break down. Love your channel.

Government of Ontario gives its citizens a $11,000+ rebate ... blew my mind how affordable this car is as a result.

I live in The Falls but work in Oakville, so look between the two, however, I did notice Roy Foss has regular stock. May have to book a Saturday to go out there. A couple of questions if you don't mind: 1. Are they good to deal with? If there's a referral benefit for you let me know. 2. Do they apply the Government rebate at the time of purchase? Finally, do you like the car? My only concern is the fact it seems to really only seat 4, but seating 5 isn't a common occurrence for me. I'd be downsizing from a Subaru Outback. Thanks! Grant

i have a first gen and it is an excellent car. i will miss the touch buttons instead of the actual buttons everywhere. but this is an improvement, you do get more. also at the end you said its great that your idleing and not using a drop of gas. yes but its also really nice that it does not produce a lot of heat like a gas car would.

There a lot of these in Silicon Valley including mine. I keep it in sport mode since the throttle response is so quick and makes it more fun. The auto parallel parking feature is a must try. weirdest feeling watching the steering wheel move really quickly and precisely on its own. with some software upgrades I'm sure this could drive itself. the lane change avoidance is interesting. when you're on the highway and let go of the steering wheel it won't let the car drift into another lane but it does kind of ping pong from one side to the other.l as it finds its way.

I have bought a 2018 Volt. Drove BMW previous 15 years. Car is fantastic! I might have burned a gallon in the 3 weeks I have owned it. What great response! Fun to drive with all the technology. Great city car. In love with it. Is that because I am a guy? Still trying to get it to park in my garage though...by itself of course.

We've got a bit of a problem here in Europe since the NEDC doesn't work and people are a bit frustrated about car companies cheating (Dieselgate, Mitsubishi and many more who just used the NEDC to their advantage).

Yes, Canada and the US uses the same ratings. Both countries use EPA ratings. But those ratings are done in a lab, so it's hard to rely on them. I have a 2017 Chevy Cruze TDI. It's rated at 52 MPG on highway, but I can get up to 57 MPG.

Really like the car, reliability seems good too, a fee people over 500,000 miles on one. Wheel bearings seem biggest issue lasting 200k or so. , but that's an inexpensive issue. I wish this car had a usable three row back seat... Be an awesome car. Used ones are pretty affordable too. But that lack of 3 seats in the back makes it unusable for me.

Range really isn't an issue even on my 90 mile average i3. There's TONS of charging stations everywhere. I live in Virginia and don't have an issue. I can't even charge at my apartment. I plug in 110v at work. And there's a bunch of fast chargers and more coming around. We've done a few road trips now, stop about every 60 miles.

The closet major city to me is about 85 km away, so I need a car that do a 170-200 km round trip. The Volt will be perfect for me, as I'll burn gas for about half of the trip.

Thank you for the review. How has this vehicle impacted your electricity bills at home assuming you change overnight? I'm curious to know how expensive it can become.

It all depends where you live and how much you pay for hydro. In BC, Canada, electricity is really cheap. Charging from empty wouldn't cost more than $1.00. Other places though could cost more though.

Average US retail electricity price is ~$0.13. The Volt has 14 kWh of usable battery capacity (the battery never fully discharges in order to preserve its operating lifetime). Assuming 85% charging efficiency, you'll need to draw ~16.5 kWh of electrical energy to charge the battery from its "depleted" state to its "fully charged" state. For the average American, this would cost ~$2.15. If the battery were charged in this way once a day, it would cost ~$782 per year.

I'm a big fan of electric too, and own two Volts. It is an electric car.. More so than most hybrids, at least. It's perfect for my driving needs. 95% local so no gas need be purchased, yet I have remote property in Wyoming where I go a couple of times a year. I think the charging stations in Wyoming can be counted on the fingers of one hand... So gas it is in that case.

The 12 volt battery will need replacement, after 6 or 7 years. This battery is not large 45 volt battery for propelling the car. This is the small 12 volt battery that the accessories, like what in the ICE cars. If this battery is not changed, a relatively simple procedure, the car will not run.

Fantastic video about the car Brian. I own a Volt and have got to say it is the perfect hybrid on the market. I noticed that you get 75km of range out of your Volt, and my volt with the range extender and very nice conditions can squeeze 100-115km of range out of it. Loved the video and your real world approach to it.

I would love the thought of getting a Volt but the cost factors just don't add up when compared to , say, a base Corolla which gets 35 mpg average. A Volt costs over $36,000 vs Corolla at $18,000. Your weekly mileage of 200 Kilometers would only use 6 gal of gas for the Corolla and even at $3 per gal is $18 per week x 52 weeks = $900. That's the max amount saved per year even if you could get free charging. It would take 20 years to make up cost difference. Also resale value after 3 years based on Honda and Toyota comparisons show the Corolla and comparable base Honda Civic retain 51% of their original value while the Volt only retains 28% of original value. Economically this is a financial bath. So to be ECO friendly a person needs to have deep, deep pockets or wait until EV cars can get to a break even point in under 4 years.And I don't know if the rebates are a dollar for dollar cost reduction or just a reduction based on your tax bracket. So in the 30% tax bracket you'd save only $2,250 out a $7,500 rebate.

Must of been pre-production Gen 1 you drove. My 2014 has a leather (?) wrapped wheel. Aerodynamics on Gen 2 is more or less the same as Gen 1. Hard acceleration on Gen 1 uses just the main 149hp traction motor. The engine can under some circumstances contribute torque to the wheels, not under full throttle though. Gen 2 is a little different...

He is correct because the base trim had a plastic i.e. urethrane steering wheel vs the Premier Trim's leather wrapped steering wheel. Google it.

I have the 2013 chevy volt hatchback it only has 4 seats. In middle of back has arm rest/center console and cup holder just like the front seat

volt no range problems especially in the cold when range drops. both the bolt and model 3 have range problems on longer trips, with possible long waits at charging stations in line waitint to charge. it is also unsure if fast charging will cost extra to enable like the model s $2000..

***** yes you can only truly compare it with another car with a range extender and NO range anxiety, thats available now. most believe teslas price will be higher in 2018 or 19, it as of yet has no range extender option, however even i must say the exterior looks awesome, however the interior only had a big ipad screen in the middle, so i like the volt dash better as of now, but hate the hard plastic everywhere, they should have an option for soft touch everywhere. no telling how much hard plastic will be in the production model 3 yet. both are goodcars, but i think different cars for different people.

My2019 volt premier …..ev range normally is 101 to 107 km at 85 km per hr with ac set at 21 with 25 to 30 degrees C outside. On strictly on gas 10.4 to 21 km per litre of fuel

What if u always drive electric, is the ICE motor gonna be bad because it's never turning on?

Good car - most of my journeys are 25 miles or less so it would suit me - one problem though - it's not sold in the UK. Oh well.

I Drive about 263km both ways twice a week. I do run out of battery before the trip is through, so I tried to use half EV and gas during the trip giving 2.3L/100km.The total cost for charge and gas is about $12 for the trip. I will keep working on bringing the ranges up. I like the point you brought up about the quality in the steering wheel. It does feel wonderful. Great video 🍻

I recently traded my fully loaded 2013 volt to 2017 Volt LT and it was the biggest regret of my life. The ride is uncomfortable as you would feel the ground and it seems the cabin is loud than that of my 13. You can also feel the vibration and noise of the engine and worst when on mountain mode. What also is disappointing is the full stop to go acceleration is quite lacking compared to 13 as if the system is capping the energy discharge. My biggest issue is the comfort of the ride. It could be because I got the LT version.

I came across an article before (I don't recall where) about the rigidity and it said that so you could feel the ground better. I think that's just an excuse because I think they've cheapened the new volt so much to compensate for the upgrades on the powertrain. It's also unbelievable that cheaper cars like those from kia, hyundai have regards to styling details like the dedicated mirror turn lights and also the garage opener is gone.

maybe it is due to being an LT. I have a 2016 Volt Premier and the comfort level is amazing. it's ultra quiet inside and a very soft ride. I blue been driving it from LA to SF frequently. i gave The auto parallel parking a challenge with a really small space between cars. it was able to navigate it lightening fast. was fun watching (and hearing) the robotic moves of the steering wheel.

EVs are NOT expensive... You can get most full blown EV's for well under the price the of that Volt.... The VW eGolf starts at 28k(US) and goes up to a max of 36k. similar prices for the Nissan Leaf. And even cheaper is the Chevy Spark, and Fiat 500e. The BMW i3 is more $, but you are paying for badge and materials there. Yes the Volt is great for those who don't have access to a plug at home, or drive more than the average person a day. But I find the 85+ miles of range in today's EV s is plenty for daily use without the over hyped 'range anxiety' everyone blabs on about. You need to know your driving habits and pick the car accordingly. Plus to make EVs cheaper there are FAR Less maintenance costs involved to offset any initial costs... Plus the maximum rebates. You could get a VW e-Golf SE in CA for $18,000 after rebates!! Just wish they would sell them more places soon!

I've been quoted $28,400 USD at my local dealerships. US Federal Gov gives you a $7500 tax rebate so that puts the Volt at under 25k after taxes and rebates. Is it worth it to buy and take on the risk of owning an EV with technology rapidly changing? I'm seriously considering it.

HI, I don't know why everyone who owns a volt complains about the back seat? I have an S Class and have the same freaking center piece in the back right in the middle and I don't complain about anything.

Be aware that the regen on demand does NOT enable the break lights. I had a guy hit me because of this. He was still at fault and was on his phone, however it would be a good idea to not use it so much if someone if behind you.

Hybrid are twice the complexity for little to no gain. Pure electric is where it's at now and Tesla are king of the hill. Not only for the cars themselves, but for what Elon Musk stands for and represent for the future of this planet with SpaceX and SolarCity, I'll gladly wait 18 months to get my Model 3.

Tesla will be rolling in cash in another decade or 2. But neither solar or electric cars are really there yet. Several barriers to entry exist: 1 - Cost: Both SolarCity and Tesla are still limited to the Upper Middle Class or Rich. Not fesable for the regular consumer. 2 - Availability: Tesla still can't match the demand for the cars yet nd need to be preordered. 3 - Charging stations: Yes, Tesla has a ton of stations for its proprietary tech, but its impossible to find in a parking lot. Its using the universal standard. They need to support both. Use Tesla system for long-hauls, universal for short. Plus, its impossible to use if you live in a city without a garage and always park on the street. Until there's demand for it, you won't have chargers lined up street sidewalks. Just too cost-prohibitive. 4 - House Wiring: Many houses are simply too old to support a 240v supply without extensive rewiring and tripping circuits. At 120v, most electric cars take an impossibly long time to charge (anywhere from 18-28hrs). The Volt's smaller battery takes a manageable 14hours, and even that's the cusp of being too long. Given the future of SolarCity, that will be a big part of the sell. However, its way too cost-prohibitive at the moment. 5 - Solar Efficiency: Tech is ever evolving on the solar side. We're now getting backpacks that allow you to charge your smartphones. But its still too early. Huge panels only give about 200w of power. In order to replace the grid, a household would need triple the efficiency of current panels being sold. I think that'll happen soon, but again needs further R&D. These changes will come, but not for another decade or so. I can see Tesla and SolarCity revolutionizing power consumption, but that's the future. Until then, the Volt is really the only practical option for any electric car unless its just a secondary one.

Never let children sleep in a car seat. In the one picture of his child seeping you can see the chest support under his child’s neck. This can cut off air and lead to death. A lot of children die every year because parents don’t realize this

***** No tears were shed in the making of that comment. You don't need to go to the previous century to find cars less and more expensive than the Volt to find far better interiors. Have you ever sat in an E39 5 series? The 90s was an golden era as far as I'm concerned for motoring enthusiasts.

Perfect is the enemy of good enough, the Volt is perfectly suited to the majority of commuters and will use very little gas. For long trips, the gas engine makes it possible to take long unplanned trips, and is great for those with only 120V charging.

I have the 2017, the thing that make me mad is when my son of 8 touch the heatseat button in the back. those button should be on the driver console.

"cause that little engine can only do so much" do you realize that it only charges the batteries??
