I like the Combo of it saying "Prophet 5" but being 10 voice more than those which come as "Prophet 10". Best of both worlds, name of the classic, power of the upgrade....

I agree. I like the case to say p5. However, I went for the p10 from the start as I didn’t purchase til after the update with stack/split. Wonder if they ever thought about making them all p5 badge with an additional marker or badge for the 10 voice? I know the history of the original p10 (overheating) and the dual manual p10 so it’s not without precedent but there is something balanced about the p5 name. It just feels right.

For 900 bucks it should definitely should come with a prophet 10 badge. For those who complain it’s too much money for pro 5 they should just build one themselves.

The ability to stack voices was a game changer for me. So I added a 5-voice card to my P5 and then bought a Prophet 10 desktop just to be able to stack both synths in stereo. That’s one Prophet on each side slightly detuned from one another. Expensive but absolutely amazing. All-time favorite setup.

There's enough room in there for about 24 voices :)

Short but sweet, looks very straightforward install...pretty shocked at the empty realestate in the synth! but guess haven’t looked in many non-80s synths!. As someone who prefers modules it good choice as I can see why sequential can easily make module versions.....always happy to have an appearance of your lovely Bengal too😍. Cheers!

Love that its posible to upgrade when you want to, bought the rev2 8voice and upgraded when i knew it was a keeper. A cool idea, what if they made the filter modular/changeable as easy as changing a small board. imagine having 4-5 different filter types you could put in your prophet! :D

For as much I have lists for a 10 all my life, but I feel like 2 prophet 6s with their poly chaining might have more goodies for me. See Tim Shoebridge video on this

Just bought it expanded version already, i own also the ob-x8 and they dont sounds the same...u can match presets but they are different! I do love the P5 more punchy and the filter rev3 is the best filter to me..amazing auto osc and how does organic sounds

Thank you Starsky for this video where you show the circuite inside. I feel a little bit sad to see pcb in SMD components format inside new Prophet 5 Rev4. I thinked that for over 2,500,00 €uro it has a different pcb card with PTH components format and not in SMD instead 😔

Its crazy that you could buy a whole other synth for the price of that expansion board.

With the split mode that the update and this voice board provides, it is a whole other P5 inside. Two Prophet 5s, same physical footprint.

I mean, yeah, the Prophet sounds great, but we can all agree the best sounds in this video are the cat snoring.

Oh Starsky, you should always mention power should be off and remove the power cable for safety reasons before this kind of synth surgery, esp when 240v AC mains right net to you in the case. Can't be too careful!

For that price you would think there would be a proper cover over the internal Mains transformer (like on the P6) and not just a bit of card/paper.

i'm strange, but i like that you have a prophet 10 but it still says prophet 5 on the box :)

I purposely bought the Prophet 5 because I wanted it to say Prophet 5..... The Legend.... Not the 10........ And I just ordered the 5 voice expansion so in my eyes, I have the best of both worlds by maintaining it's a Prophet 5 but mine..... has an extra boost that other 5's do not!!! LOL!!!!! It's just a personal thing like anything else..... sounds, asthetics, controls, etc.... Just do what you like and can... and enjoy!! :)

Come on now did you think it was anything different? Same way most of it is from the East like everyone else, absolutely nothing wrong with SMT or eastern engineered products btw. Very few synths are not made this way, very few, has been this way for decades.

it's a price tag influenced by "Prophet 5" being the name. So the manufacturing process is no different from Rev2 then. Sure the components are more expensive but like... not 4 times more expensive. It's exactly that same kind of BS Korg pulled with its "full sized" MS20. You either pay stupid money on a second-hand market for a vintage MS20 or you pay less stupid money for something newer. Even though the only difference between MS20 Mini and MS20FS are literally full sized keys. And you have $1000 added to a price tag for those. I bet separate voice cards on P6/OB-6 cost more to manufacture. They are doing it because they can and people buy it.

can you save the voice mode per patch? Or are these only global settings? (can i have a preset 1 be prophet 5, preset 2 be prophet 10, preset 3 be split, and preset 4 be stacked, for example?)

anybody who just forked out $3600 for one of these might want to stop at 1:37

You can only get them direct from Sequential. Maybe now they're part of Novation/Focusrite they may become available in the UK tbh its cheaper to sell the P5 and buy a P10.

Presumably direct from Sequential and hence big postage/import duty fees to consider?

I’d say it’s a great addition but financially it’s probably cheaper to sell what you have and buy another!

First off, thank you for all the great content. Second, please don’t stop sharing. Lastly, why is it that everyone keeps telling my to use a anti-static mat when working on a synth? I’m not wanting to dish out the extra cash for one, but I am willing to spend x amount for the voice card… 🥴

@@lionelgarcia7227 yeah loads of tech heads will tell you to do it, but I’ve never had any issues. But I’ve not got nylon carpet 😂 there maybe a combination of footwear and flooring some of these guys use that is lethal 🤷‍♂️ I’ve never heard of anyone blowing anything.

In 5 voices mode I read "SUC" on the display... Fortunately it's a 3 digits display.

Yes a P10 is just the P5 with the additional board. Its cheaper to buy the P10 than go for a P5 then the board... but at least that gives you the option of upgrading if you think you need it. My advice would be go for the 10.

For $3600 USD it should have come with 10 voices already. With this $900 expansion board that comes up to $4500 USD for a 10 voice synth. 🙄

When you opened it and its empty lol. It would be ideal for someone to design some upgrades for it, theres certainly enough room. Did you have to pay taxes when you imported the expansion?

yes there's VAT + 3% import duties. It's cheaper to buy the 10 in the first place.
