Brad, something I do once or twice- when I have a somewhat easy task/mod to do on the Jeep, I pull out the tool bag and use those tools. If I need a tool from my garage box, I probably need to add it to the trail bag.

I started working "exclusively" out of my tool rolls for the same reason. I now have some larger adjustable wrenches and a few odds and ends. Also cotter pins and safety wire!

I came here to say this too. Most people don’t need to carry every size wrench and socket, just the ones for bolts and nuts on your vehicle.

I don’t remember hearing Zip-Ties. I love Zip-ties.

ZIP TIES fix anything with those
As someone who turns wrenches almost daily I will say this... Organisation of tools will speed up most jobs 4x And prevent a lot of bloody knuckles by enabling you to have the right tool for the job on demand. Having the right tool that is hard to find... means you likely won't take the time to look for it. Great video! Thumbs Up
Like the bottle jack, and the Extension tubes for it.
Great video as always, I also make sure I carry a cheap tarp with me, sure beats laying in the mud and if you drop something much easier to find.

Yeah that or a old carboard box that can be flattened out. In a real pinch you can make gaskets out of carboard as long as you can coat them with RTV.
Wow. Didn't know that TEKTON had so many goodies! I have their sets of shallow and deep impact sockets and quality is ON POINT. Will definitely look into buying a few more of their stuff! Awesome setup Brad! Cheers.
Great video. Very well put together. You always seem so collected. I like seeing what people carry with them. It is good education for everyone. One thing I always have, and have used, are Zip Ties! I had to fix my buddy's fender on the trail recently and used them.
Just my luck... I planned on making this video tomorrow 🤦🏻♂️. Great video Brad

+100 for the Colby valve stems. I’d never seen them before until someone broke their valve stem and someone else gave them a Colby stem to install. The tire was fixed and aired up within a few minutes. I carry several with me in the truck.
I love Tekton tools. I knew nothing about them, and then a couple of years ago I was at expo west and I was working with Kinsmen hardware on installing a 270 awning to my jeep. I didn't have a lot of clearance between my jeep roof and my roof rack, and I really needed a ratchet wrench. The kind folks at the Teckton booth lended me exactly what I needed to get the job done. Customer service like that, plus the quality of the tools, make me a lifelong fan of their tools. Thanks for the video, super helpful!
Hey Brad, great video. One item that I carry in my Jeep tool bag is an extension for my ratchet handles made from a 12" length of 3/4" galvanized pipe. Note that one side is pounded down to fit my 3/4" ratchet handle and the other side is sized for my 1/2" handle. This adds more leverage when needed, and it almost always is needed.
Should do I lighting video for those nighttime repairs. Headlamps, magnetic area lamps, safety lighting, flashlights etc... Not necessarily Jeep wired lighting
I have the exact same tekton socket set. It’s a great set. If you’re gonna carry a bottle jack, you might want to cut a piece of 2x6 that fits in the ammo box. You can use that as a bigger footprint for the bottle jack.
I went with the BROG Tool Pouch Roll awhile back. I'm happy with it.
I carry a portable impact wrench whether 1/2" or 3/8" drive for when you need to remove or secure them bolts with 80+ lbs of torque. Not to mention quick and easy when out on the trails. I use the Milwaukee Fuel M18 "Mid Torque" 1/2 impact wrench.
i have had my safe jack for almost 2yrs in my xj and it has been amazing!!!!! makes jacking up are lifted rigs alot safer and easier with there adapters and such.
Brad, good stuff. I am a newbie to Jeeping / off-roading and this was a great help. I ordered virtually everything you listed and many of the items you just spoke about.
Great info Brad! We were just dealing with the ‘black hole’ bag of tools. Can be very frustrating pulling out all your tools to find one item! And it’s always on the bottom!!! Can’t wait to see more XJ videos. I just got my first Jeep and have been having a blast filming my new adventures in Jeep ownership.
You have answered my long time questions, on what type of tipical tools to have, I've asked friends I offroad and just get depends on what you want to do with your rig, which is true but it's never been answered and this simple break down and helpful link on some tools, I will be buying have helped me set up what I want to have with me, thank you for this video
One of your best videos, some really good ideas. Glad to see someone using a bottle jack, I've been thinking of getting one to replace the factory jack, I like the extras your model came with.
I carry a separate bag under my back seat with an cordless impact wrench and impact sockets. Makes changing tires alot quicker.
I have a similar setup that I have in my decked drawers. The key was having it organized and not just a big ol bag of tools. I learned the hard way when trying to repair on the trail, and it took so long to find a socket at the bottom of the bag.
The blue Ridge Overland tool bag is amazing. I have had one for about four years, and it still looks brand new, and it is pretty loaded. It probably weighs forty pounds. It’s an awesome product.
Brad, I always have a head lamp in my tool kit and in my glove box. I also have a small LED hand held light (Milwaukee rechargeable) that has a magnetic clip. It has come in handy working in low/no-light situations. BTW, I am a big fan of Blue Ridge Overland Gear, they make some great stuff.

YES, the headlamp is a MUST. I do vehicle maintenance all the time and having a trusted headlamp.....well I always wear a hat and unless i am going to dinner I always have a Streamlight Bandit attached.
Such a great video. Organizing and planning is the key to keep it simple and minimal. Having this stuff can make or break your trip…or those that don’t take the time to help themselves!
Great list. Gave me some ideas. Didn't mention a flashlight. Definitely adding the Blue Ridge tool bag to my list, I'm getting my recovery gear from them also
Nicely Though Out Bag! And You Are Right Getting Familiar With Your Vehicle Is Important!
Hi, thanks, this was an excellent "off road" tool kit review. I got some great ideas on what to add to my current kit. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video.
Thanks for the Video. Very helpful in deciding what to carry while on the road or off road. Blue Ridge overland gear is a great product as well.
This is fantastic. I thought I had put together a good kit but your video showed a few things I missed. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome work! Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I did not get the Jeep Rubicon that I wanted (could not convince the wife)... so ended up getting a Chevy ZR2 Bison... Now working on setting it up for going out camping. This list of tools is awesome. I have a tool bag with tools, wires, tape, zip-ties, straps, etc, and an ARB air compressor with their tire repair kit in each of my vehicles, but I have to say, there were things listed here that I had no idea existed (for example, that tire valve repair kit... very nice... oh and that safe jack bottle jack looks like a winner!). Video bookmarked so I can come back to continue to add a lot of these tools to my truck. Thank you!!
Ive been using TEKTON for about year and half now great tools and great molded container's
Great information I’m taking a trip to ALASKA later this year not in the Jeep but in our truck and travel trailer, so will be using some of your suggestions. Always great information Brad.
I recently started to watch your videos, and I just really love all of your content. Especially during COVID-19 lockdown and with everything else going on, it’s been so good to find a new channel that had content I love. And it’s been so great watching and following your journey, it gives me a lot to look forward to once this is all said and done. I especially enjoy videos like this, and the ones from your garage. Very informative! Thanks for what you do.
Great Video Brad! It’s interesting going back to your earlier tool bag video and seeing the changes that you have made. The only things that I carry that you didn’t mention is a can of Starting fluid to reset a tire bead, an emergency hose repair kit and also emergency, air activated fiberglass tape.
Thanks for the info on Tekton. Been buying their stuff for a couple years now. Happy with all of them. Got a few Snap on tools in my collection, Tekton's tools are very close in quality for a way better price.

Master Chief I really appreciate and enjoy your clips. They are very informative. Just wanted to say thank you.
I have that safe jack kit, great kit. The bottle jack itself is cheap like 20-30 bucks but you pay the price for the accessories which are quality from experience.
Cordless impact wrench.
Dude, love your videos! You’ve given me a lot to think about. Thanks!

Great Review Brad, thank you!
Wire crimper/cutter/stripper, a pencil soldering iron, some electrical wire to add to your tackle box of electrical parts.
Small magnetic parts tray/bowl. Another excellent video!
That Safe Jack is something on my wish list. Great video. You gave me a few good ideas. One of the things I always have in every vehicle I own is an inexpensive torque wrench from Harbor Freight. It is a peace of mind when changing a tire and having the lugs tightened to the proper specs.
@slopsec2358

No need for a torque wrench for lug nuts. Just stand on the lug wrench and when the nuts squeak like a school girl, Bob's your uncle.
Can't find the appropriate vid the couple day Baja camping it was outstanding listening to you narrate the vid while the gentleman cooked those meals was so very awesome,......
Good stuff. I carry all tekton tools in my Jeep. I’m from Grand Rapids.
Tekton great choice! Slowly switching all my tools from Craftsman to Tekton.
JB Weld a must have. Perfect for your glue pouch
Great tool bag! One thing you might get is spare belts and radiator hoses and heater hose. You never have problems with those until the miles roll up but, if you do need one, you are dead in your tracks if you do not have a spare.
That bottle jack with an extension is great. Will be looking into this for sure thank you. Mr. Brad
"But babe...I needed these new tools in order to make another video that'll help people"..😏🤣😂🎯👏👏👏
Awesome video!! Keep it up, your doing an amazing job.
Love the bag. and bags within the bag.
Awesome video, lots of great suggestions!
Definitely getting the bottle jack, Master Chief 👍!
Love this video, very helpful!
Brad, great setup there. I went with the Atlas Tool roll and it has been awesome. Really heavy duty and similar with all the pouches. It’s amazing what you can get in it. I also have the Atlas trunk bag and that hooks into the floor. No getting hit in the back of the head with tools!

I have the Atlas tool roll and bag. Freaking love it. I just need to skinny up my kit.
awesome videos brad. Thank you .
Great video. things I would add...............Zipties, Flashlight/headlamp 1/2" cordless impact - absolutely goes with me on any trail rig or long trip in the car. I've used both the 20v dewalt 20v and milwalkee. I have to say the milwalkee wins, but the dewalt is acceptable. Might be a good subject for an episode to test one or more of these tools. Once you have it, you won't leave home without it! Some sort of air compressor to fill tires (maybe this doesn't qualify as a tool bag item) A foam camping pad or yoga mat. If you have to crawl around under a vehicle, kneel on rocky ground, sit or lay on cold ground, it is a life saver. I love the bottle jack. I need to acquire one of those. Kudos on the ratchet strap. I'd carry at least two. I limped an old CJ5 home that broke a leaf spring. Used two ratchet straps to hold the front axle in place while I drove back to civilization.
Like it. I grabbed an idea or two. I used to think I "over thought" having all the little things. I just don't want to be dead in the water for a simple to moderate fix that CAN be done along the trail. So I have packed similar to this for years, and have the ability to "MacGyver" stuff if needed, and get gigged for it by others sometimes. But then you see the other extreme, people who bring virtually nothing, and you find yourself bailing everyone else out. Even when not in my Jeep.....in my Ram, I keep extra JK shifter bushings. Like your vids! Catch you out there sometime I hope. Keep 'er shiny side up ! Happy Trails !
Looks like you have a pretty complete tool kit. I've really grown to like Tekton tools in recent years. Fair pricing for a quality tool.
Great video. This is something I have needed to upgrade with my Jeep gear, but I think your suggestions are going to cost me a couple Benjamin’s. THANKS! 😁
I’ve saved three of your videos of what to have in your jeep. Good job good to know and thank you

Hello Brad, Some notes on the kit. The metal file needs a scabbard to protect it and the other tools around it. May be put the file in some plastic pipe, or wrap some cardboard around it. Next some Waterless Hand Cleaner. Last but not least and this may be not a tool but some large trash bags. Always a good idea to have something better than nothing. Keep up the great work. P.S. a lug wrench that fits the lug nuts on your vehicle.
Very usefull video. I carry large tractor tire tube patches. I used them to fix my air intake hose behind the turbo charger, together with wire and duct tape. Does not work on silicone hoses of Course. Greetings from Germany.
another great video full of useful information!.
One vet to another thanks for serving bro
Brad, another good one man. I love that tool bag, added to my wish list. Thanks for the links always helpful.

Thank you! I'm pretty happy with the bag and may even grab another one for some misc. stuff.
heat shrink, portable soldering iron, solder(Kester super 44), 10' electrical jumpers, oxy map mini torch, Zipties, link belt, silicon tape.
Great video Brad! I might add 550 cord and a small assortment of fuel hose and coolant hose (just like the spare nuts and bolts).
Good advice, I''m going to get some more tools. I like the tool bag too.
Great video!!!! looks like I gotta add a few things... to my tool bag

great stuff, adding some items in my kit per this video.
We have the microstart xp10. It’s a life saver. I also have some blue ridge expedition gear too. They are top notch.
Great great video. I have many of the items but you had some great ones I was missing. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video. Personally I have a torque wrench. I’m obsessed with getting the right torque when I need to change a tire.
Rescue tape, spill kit, and fluid recovery kit. Are some great add ons.
Hey Master Chief! Very informative video. I have a 4Runner arriving at the Port of Houston on 15 JUL. I will put this information to good use while setting it up for off-road work. BTW, my first at-sea tour was a FRAM 1 Destroyer (Bausell - DD845) out of San Diego in the early 70s. BRAVO ZULU for your channel.
Great video Brad. Maybe consider a brake/clutch bleeding hose and various fluids for you jeep. I also like to carry a 3ft length of 1/4" threaded rod - got me out of trouble more than once.
Great job Brad! Man, I wish I lived close, It would be great to wheel with you!
Great video Brad.
I use a Atlas46 KoH tool roll and in it I carry a full kit from spanners, 1/2, 3/8, breaker bars, and misc stuff to fix things.
I do like your tool set you pretty much got everything the only thing extra would be a set of heater hoses and radiator hoses for your Jeep Wrangler maybe one or two universal and a spare serpentine belt other than that I'd say you got your bases pretty well covered THX uncle chuck😎
When out on the trail I will also carry some spare fluids such as ATF, a can of spare-tire-in-a-can (the stuff really works for nails in tires), motor oil, and a can of starting fluid. I also changed over from a metal tool box, to a synthetic material bag system some years ago. I also imagined the metal box slamming into someone's head and well, that's a scary thought!

Looks like my old tool set up. Now all i carry is two screw drivers, a hammer, a 3/8 racket, with 10mm,12mm,14mm and 17mm. Combo wrenches in same sizes. And a 1/2 rachet with axle socket. And a hammer. Less is more. Ive never even needed these tools on a camping trip or trail and my tacoma is a 2012. My 94 land cruiser has a few more tools buts basically the same. I totally understand why you jeep guys carry so many tools though lol.
Very informative video Brad! I noticed I’m missing some tools in my BROG tool bag!
Great vid, thanks. A couple of pry bars of different sizes and shapes. A couple of punches. Piece of pipe as a cheater (and often gets used to bang on things or used like a punch). 12v test light. (I like the multimeter, am going to add mine to my kit, thx) and a small mirror.
very helpful! thanks for sharing
Awesome video! We are busy developing a 4x4 Tool Kit Set here in South Africa with Gedore Tools and your video was a 10 out of 10
Lots of great ideas expressed here. I always carry a basic bug-out-bag. Small to medium knapsack containing basic survival gear, first aid(trauma), fire starters, protein bars, large trash bags, etc. Things you need to save a life or spend an unexpected day or two out. I also carry an "Emergency Personal Locator Beacon - EPERB" which is good land or sea world wide. Only to be activated in life or death situations, but if? I am not an "overlander" but do run some challenging trails that have the possibility of leaving me and others stranded or far from help in bad situations.

Also, and most importantly, never go offroading without another vehicle along. A small accident or incident can turn into a seriously dangerous event in a heart beat if there is no one around to help. This is coming from a 63 yr old guy that has been around one or two blocks.
Factor55 shorty straps are pretty nice to have. You can use your winch to straighten tie rods, etc.
I would cut a thick piece of ply board to fit in the bottom of your ammo box to use as a jack base
A small mirror is handy, it lites up dark areas better in daytime than a flash lite and can signal and give a different view
Nice dual band aerial on your Rubicon, I have the same mount and antenna KA6AIV - Thanks for the video!
Thanks! This was helpful. With all the stuff you have I was surprised that you don't carry an impact wrench for tire changes. I've got a bad back and hauling on a lug wrench is no fun. Sometimes I even carry my torque wrench....
