I have been trying to perfect my travel camera bag for a couple of years now and I think I am finally there! I can't believe I finally DON'T have a 100% prime lens bag anymore haha. Let me know what you think in the comments :D If I am missing any gear links below, let me know and I can find it for you!

Great to see some photos from Prague 🙂 Well, as travel photography isn't a big part of my photography work (although in the future, I'd like to do it more), I only recently got a relatively affordable zoom lens, Sony 24-105 G and during my last trip to Venice I took most photos with this lens. But I also had my trusty 20/1.8 G and 35/1.4 GM with me. I have to agree with you that the 35 GM is the best.

Last year I mostly had the Sony a7IV, the 24GM, 35GM, 50 1.4 GM and 85 1.8 with me. I was recently in Barcelona for a few days and downsized. I left the 24GM/35GM and 85 1.8 at home, but I had the Sony a7IV and the 50mm 1.4 GM as well as the Leica Q3, the combination worked very well.

I have Photography friends that visit every year to Sydney for the "Vivid Sydney" event ! Maybe you will be here during that time to capture some nice photos. BTW i like your setup ! I have the Nikon 180-600 ! I thought I was crazy to carry around that big lens. Glad I am not the only one ! I also have the 24-200 and Tamron 35mm f1.8 and 85 1.8 both VC. and those 3 are 67mm filter. As I migrate to the Z mount.. you have inspired me to look at something wide like your 16-35. You have also added weight to the 70-180 & TC2.0 combination ! On the other hand the new Tamron 35-150 is very attractive as a 2 lens kit with the 180-600. Anyway ,, Hope to see some "Vivid Sydney" photos from you soon !!

    I like to travel light, one body, a 50/1.4 & 85/2.0. Sometimes I might carry a 70-200/4.0 plus a 1.4 converter. I find the 2x a bit soft. I rarely carry or use a wide angle. I prefer a satchel type bag.

I got a 1.4 but I feel like I lose a bit of quality when I use it. I’m using it mainly for landscape and wildlife on a canon 100-400 all fitted to an R7. Do you think it’s because of a cheaper type lens or could I just be trying to reach too far??

@JuliaTrotti It's cool seeing inside your travel bags of infinite holding! It really is bigger on the inside than the outside! It's really cool that Dan got the A9III. I haven't seen much about it being used for video, and I am very curious. :) Will he be using it for high speed shooting as well? I totally know what you mean about camera bags making you a bit of a target. I feel fine using mine in most places, but there are places where it just doesn't feel like a good idea. For those, I switch to my A7C, and a 5L Peak Design Everyday Sling. It's tiny, so it doesn't attract attention. Funny story...one day, I hung my Everyday Sling behind me on my chair at a sushi place. I left with the group I was with. When we were about 10 blocks away, I realized I'd *left it at the sushi place*! (The camera and bag are so light that I didn't realize that I didn't have them on me!) With the A7C inside! Fortunately, the sushi place had found it and held on to it for me. Do you take all of those lenses with you when you go out exploring, or do you just pick one or two and leave the others in your hotel room? Hoping for the 85 1.2 as well! :) All of the rumors that I've heard lately point to an 85 1.4 instead... but I talked to a Sony person at a camera store recently, who thought that Sony would release *both* lenses, with the 85 1.2 following the 1.4 by about 4 months.

Julia, excellent timing as I just retired at the end of January and my wife and I are going to do more traveling and I am looking to put together a nice traveling kit. I have the Sony A74 and the Sony A7Siii (normally I take the A74 if I am only going to take one for some video but mostly photo). I currently have the Sony 50mm F.14 GM lens. The two new ones shipping this week are something I am considering, looking to decide on one of them (Sony 16-25mm F2.8 G or Sony 24-50mm F2.8 G). I am not a pro, so GMs (16-35mm F2.8 GM ii, 24-70mm f2.8 GM ii) are a bit out of the price range. I have never used a wide angle zoom (I did own the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM for a time), but think it could be good for travel. I also like the idea of the 24-50mm F2.8 always on the camera and just use the 50mm 1.4 at night, indoors, lowlight, etc. I know you are a 35mm F1.4 GM (your . . . if I had to be stranded on an island with one lens . . . . ). I don't do any vlogging but do landscape photography and I want to do more video. What do you and Dan think with my camera bodies, would you go the Sony 16-25mm F2.8 G or Sony 24-50mm F2.8 G as the next lens?

I do not like zoom Lenses, I had the Sony 200-600mm 5.6- 6.5 G Lens, which nearly was the only long affordable Lens when I got it, the 200-600 is to big and heavy, I had to buy a new very large photo backpack for it, the 200-600 also have problems when used on Sony A7R series cameras with the stabilizer system, so you often get blurry images !!! Packing for travel is not straight forward, where, when and why do you travel !? If I was on a travel and need "everything" I would still would still go as light as possibly, fx Zeiss Loxia Distagon 21mm 2.8 T*, Sony Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA (or Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 aspherical), Sony Zeiss Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T*, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lantar 110mm 2.5 and the new Sigma 500mm 5.6 DG DN OS Sports Lens which is very compact. light weight and fits in a small photo back pack ! I sold the 200-600 ! Two Sony A7RIV Cameras. I could do another mix of Lenses, I also have Sony 14mm 1.8 GM, Sony 24mm 1.4 GM, Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 T* ZA, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical and Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, it is always nice to have plenty of prime Lenses to choose a selection to a hike or travel.

But who really need aperture 1.2 !!! Last year I bought the Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T* used for US $550 (taxes included) in excellent condition, the Batis 85mm is very handy, light weight, excellent image quality and aperture 1.8 is more than enough for me ! You must have a very trained back. :-D Actually none of these lenses are good for traveling. Way too heavy and above all too expensive. Zooms are perfect for traveling and landscape. But why 2.8? There is the exellent 20-70 G and also very good 70-200 G Macro. Both F4. And if it's a fixed focal length, hell, then use the small ones. Samyang 24 1.8, Zeiss 55mm 1.8, Sigma 90mm 2.8... There are options.

Anyone watching this thinking you need all this to take good travel photos you don’t get yourself a super zoom, you will find very quickly that great photos will trump what gear you used to take it every time because majority of people do not give a F what you used

7:40 absolutely despise the "Mini 3 Pro". It has the same terrible controller that weighs 116g more than the "Mini 1", plus it is geo-fenced. Every drone since the Mavic Mini has been terrible for backpacking, because of the increased weight of the controller and they are all geo-fenced. My Mini 1 is hacked and I have no-geofencing, which means I can fly it as high as I want wherever I want and nobody can do a thing to stop it other than shoot it down...that is "Power". Those new DJI drones suck

5:22 I must have a bad copy of the 2x teleconverter. It looks like complete trash on the 70-200GMII on the A1 & R4 bodies. I get better sharper results just punching into Super-35 at 300mm and cropping. I even increase the shutter speed as well and put it on a tripod...every image with the 2x Teleconverter is terrible with LOCO, color fringing and softness. They refuse to debut proper GMII teleconverters until the 2026 Olympics with the 400GMII & 600GMII

So basically, you bring all your regular giant sized, heavy glass that doesn't make any of them actually TRAVEL lenses. Travel lenses are supposed to be small, light and versatile like an Olympus 12-100mm f/4 IS Pro, or a Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4 or a Nikon 24-120mm f/4. This is one area where M43 is far FAR superior than full frame cameras.

@@Chow0012 Nope, not even gonna go there; try hiking for 8 hours with a dSLR, 70-200 f/4, 24-105 f/4 and an 11-16 f/2.8. That's actual travel, and that kind of dead weight sucks the fun out of TRAVEL. That used to be my gear, and it gets tiring FAST, especially as you get older. But also ruins your time actually soaking in your surrounding. Sounds like you spend more time hitting the gym than actually travelling and doing photography? You'd know what it feels like to carry that much gear all day. Julia herself even admits it that these lenses are cumbersome, big and heavy.
