What’s In My 1,200 CD Glam Metal Collection?

Previously I filmed an episode showing an overview of my entire 12,000 CD collection. But for this video, I am focusing on my 1,200 CD collection of Glam Metal. This genre and style of music is my first love. While my tastes have grown and changed over the years, this is where it all started. Join me as I run through the collection showing you some of my favorite albums I’ve collected over the last 35 years.

There will never be another era of music like the 80s. And honestly it doesn't matter which genre of music it was I obviously love the glam metal hair metal whatever you want to call it it's all Rock and roll to me. The most important thing about music in my opinion was writing good music and throwing the f*** down live. It's just kind of crazy to think about how many bands they're actually was

People who make fun of Winger because of Beavis & Butthead have no choice but to also bag on the Star Trek franchise and “geek culture” in general. It was established that Stuart enjoyed those things as well. Otherwise, Winger “critics” are being hypocritical. For me, I’m looking forward to seeing Winger perform “Pull” in its entirety later this year.

I'm fascinated by that early 90's music period where glam/hair metal was being pushed aside by the grunge movement, and how those bands pivoted. Asphalt Ballet, Extreme, Saigon Kick, Kick Tracee, Trixter even to some extent.....One foot in metal, one foot in grunge.

To this day I'm honestly perplexed at the level of scorn this genre receives. Even radio generally memory-holes the entire era with the exception of a handful of megahits (Photograph, Here I Go Again, You Give Love A Bad Name, etc, etc). I just don't 'get' how both critics and the general public can be so dismissive of what was really about a decade-long reign of music where the vocals were often superhuman, the essential guitar melodies were nothing short of virtuoso, and the overall songwriting was more memorable and hook-laden than much of what has come since, not to mention the sheer amount of charismatic personalities involved. To say that there was an over abundance of talent would be an understatement. Despite all of these factors, it's almost like the world wants to forget that it ever existed. It makes no sense to me. Truly it was an era that deserves a deeper analysis and greater respect than it currently gets.

Love this channel & as a result have been subscribed to it for quite some years now. That said, when the topic of *glam metal* is the main focus of a video & or brought up just in passing, much like a child alone in the wilderness, I am completely lost. Truly having never listened to any bands under the umbrella of said genre. With the closet I ever got to possibly “exploring” said style of music out being when at my local thrift store *(shoutout to Value Village on Kingston Road & Whites Road in Pickering-Ontario, Canada)* a few years back I found & bought a copy of the *Cinderella - Night Songs* CD. But alas, much like alot of other cd’s, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks I find/purchase in my travels, I never found the time nor had any desire to listen to it. And as a result, it has long since sold. My loss perhaps, but who knows maybe one day I may give some of the band’s mentioned in this video a listen, but just not today. Another insightful upload though, Brendon. And do keep em’ coming. Cheers!!! 😉

Great stuff! I’ve got a huge CD and box set collection myself but not quite as much as you. And yeah, some people get defensive about who you include in glam rock/hair metal because the terms have been stigmatized but I was at the perfect age (high school 1983-1986) and there’s no question that even the rock bands that aren’t fully hair bands certainly still participated in it and there shouldn’t be any shame in that. If you turned on MTV in the mid 80s you’d see Ozzy and Judas Priest and Kiss and Heart and Scorpions and the rest right next to Dokken and Poison and Bon Jovi with the same clothes/guitars/hair/band sonics as all the genuine hair bands. Just look at Ozzy’s blonde perm and glitter around that time or any of those bands’ videos. They’re all right in line. But I loved it and still do out of nostalgia.

A few that u did not mention......Johnny Crash......Coney Hatch....Icon.... I know there are so many more that i can't name at the moment as i am sure you know as well. As you named all these bands i just said....DAMN! I remember that band or lp. As with any genre of music when "Glam Metal" hit big every band under the sun was signed hoping to become the next Big band. And after 1 lp if they did not have a "hit" they got dropped. On a side note a few bands u mentioned IMO are not glam.....MSG.....SCORPS.....TESLA....Y&T....Blue Murder...etc. But you bringing up there name may make folks to check them out. Oh yeah nice tshirt... IMO the first KIX lp was THE FIRST GLAM METAL LP released. It came out before Motley Crues lp.

Are you aware your missing 80s Pantera from your Glam Metal collection (albums "Metal Magik (1983)", "Projects in the Jungle (1984)" and "I Am the Night (1985)" from the Metal Magic indie label) ?

Why would you think I’m missing it? Pantera was never Glam Metal. They were Power Metal before Groove Metal. Regardless, I don’t keep them in Glam Metal. Better time stumping me next time 😂

Крутая коллекция. Но глэм метал довольно размытое понятие. Так что думаю здесь имеется и просто хард рок или хэви метал.

Question for you, when adding to your collection in alphabetical order like u have a cd for the letter "A" do u have to move down all the rows just to sneak it in or do u just put them someplace else?

I also love native tongue and crack a smile, unfortunately we’ll never know how crack would’ve done if it came out instead of greatest hits, also love the poor, saw them recently at the Gold Coast Australia, and they’re Aussie not British.
