What’s Happened To Newcastle? | Most Dangerous Places?

So we thought we would check out the Empty shopping centre in Eldon Gardens and apparently the most dangerous places in Newcastle. Alone the way we found loads of abandoned buildings n the area and we haven’t even scratched the surface. Are places like the center centre & Arthur’s Hill dangerous? #abandonedbuildings #explore #buildings #abandoned #newcastle #property #wanderingturnip

I used to work on the West Road many years ago and to see the state of the old bowling alley, police station and nurses home is heartbreaking. The nurses home was always fully occupied but with the General Hospital being gradually closed down and demolished the home was handed over to refugees/asylum seekers who wrecked the place. Such a shame.

I have to say that the most dangerous places anywhere in Newcastle are Byker and Cowgate mind

That was the old nurses accommodation for the General Hospital over the road. There is a tunnel that runs from the building under the road into the hospital. It was busy and full of hospital staff and then student nurses. It’s looks like it’s fallen into ruin, but it was a great social in the day. Last time I was in there was around 96ish.

I thought they new Newcastle then they they call the general hospital the RVI. They don't know Newcastle . Take no notice of them because they don't know any thing about the central Newcastle or the West end. And then they don't know the West Road one of the main roads in Newcastle.

Eldon Gardens is almost devoid of open shops, possibly the high costs of rent and the "niche" shops that were in the building.

That was the old general hospital. How sad to see my hometown and what it is like now. Not been back up home in a good few years. Makes me so sad to see it run down

Just after the bowling alley after, you crossed over that first building with someone sleeping in the doorway was the old police station, then next was an old nurses home for the nurses that worked in the hospital across the street. had an old underground passage under the road :D --- Not sure when they started knocking down the Hospital but I do know a lot of it now is being used by the university for studying and research. Really sad to see, I don't get up that way very often anymore living up closer to Hexham! - The RVI is down closer to Newcastle though, through Leazes park, next to St James's :D ... Wish I'd known you were popping over, might have bought you's a pint :D -- Thanks for another great video :D

I've lived in the west end on and off for the last 25 years. So the bowling alley used to be the one that was used for local competitions, even after the big modern out of town places opened up in the 90s). The building after that was the West end Police Station, then Angel Heights was originally nurses accommodation, then was used to house refugees, a lot of whom I'm led to believe didn't get on very well and it got slowly trashed.shame beautiful building. The Hospital on the other side of the road was the general hospital, local A&E etc but is now owned by one of the universities and will get developed in the next few years.
