Plastic containers were all the rage in my grandparents and parents day. But in the last two decades both my and my parents households have moved away from plastic storage containers entirely, out of concern over long-term degradation of the plastic into the food. These days we all use glass containers with plastic snap-on tops. I don't think its tupperware, though. These things are so generic that we don't even care who the manufacturer is. If its food-grade glass, its safe.

Actually sell some % (my suggestion says 50% but we could draw the chart and pick up the most optimum point since even with selling half of the stock you own, you get a still great +35% return on the whole purchase price) and take a slight risk and leave the other half of the stock in the market, hopefully the meme people can drag it on for a few more days at least, most probably).
Some lessons are expensive, some are really expensive Hertz, the only good meme stock outcome, did well because their business materially improved post pandemic as surging travel demands allowed them to swing to a profit (even then their leveraged free cash flow is still negative). None of the rest of these companies have a real path towards a real business turn around.

My take-away from this is that there's potentially a limited amount of time left to buy *some actual tupperware* before the company goes out of business forever. And considering that I still have some tupperware that once belonged to my grandma, that's an investment worth making.
My favorite part of the stock market is how a company can release a quarterly report way beyond expectations and still drop 20% on market opening.

I know nothing about how the Tupperware company is run, but they do make a good product. Here's hoping the company can turn things around.
00:13 📈 Tupperware stock rallied over 700% in two weeks. 01:08 📉 $TUP became a meme stock due to retail demand and social media activity. 02:04 🔄 Financials are weak, with declining sales, negative earnings, and high debt. 02:39 💡 What is Tupperware. 04:19 🎉 Tupperware Parties! 05:21 🚀 The recent rally is attributed to a potential short squeeze. 07:56 🧨 Risk investing in meme stocks; fundamentals matter, interest rates are high, and long-term gains are uncertain.
It's kind of a shock that Tupperware would be struggling, but then I guess that while its product is a very good product, that means lots of competition, so that most of the things I've used that are "tupperware" are not actually Tupperware. They're similar products from everyone from Glad to Rubbermaid, especially Rubbermaid. That's gotta suck for them as a company. They weren't even wrong. They just turned from Kleenex into kleenex, and that's why we avoid that.

Honestly I'm surprised they've gone on as long as they have. MLM structures depend on regular sales so the sellers gain commissions, which is most conducive to dealing with consumables, and Tupperware is not a consumable product. What I also think is interesting is that the memestock phenomenon has added another huge and unpredictable risk to stock shorting.
@KnakuanaRka
5 күн бұрын
Yeah, that’s what especially baffles me about some MLMs. The whole concept is a mess in general, but at least those selling consumables like health supplements or cosmetics have a chance of getting repeat sales; things like Lululemon’s clothes, Cutco’s knives, Kirby vacuums, etc don’t get that, so good luck constantly looking farther afield for new customers.
Caravan stock , went as low as 3$ and CNBC made a video on it when caravan stock was at 3$, I regret not buying it, because now it's 45$ and I could have 15x my money

This morning I checked into a hotel after a red eye flight and snagged an OJ and a few donut holes before sleeping most of the day. They had a few plain bagels, but I don’t want to wait in line for the toaster. I love the finance content by the way! I’ve been hearing a lot about yellow in the news lately, but had not heard anything about Tupperware. I work in the transportation sector and would love to hear your take on the shipping industry (planes, trains, trucks, boats, warehouses, etc.) and how all that fits into transportation as a whole.
You know public companies are a really F'd up business model when "The product is very good." is a bad thing.

Any thoughts about doing a more recent and in depth video about meme stocks/trading in general? Now that it's been hitting the mainstream for a couple years, it seems like there could be quite a bit to talk about there, and potential harm it has done to people, with examples of actual stocks as many are past the point now where it can be confused with current investment advice.
What people don't understand too is that shorts will buy shares just to walk it down. That 2nd pump was 100% not retail.

This stock bump could be a good thing for Tupperware, because it could give the company a little extra. Liquidity should decide to offload some of its own stock, but whenever The company does that it's going to force the price down again, which lands them right back where they were before, albeit with a few extra million dollars. If Tupperware is trying to reestablished itself as a large brand because there were fewer direct to market buyers out there. Now, getting into store like Target could be just what they need. Their future in that case is all dependent on much store level consumers want to purchase Tupperware instead of McCormick or Rubbermaid or the plethora of other brands out there.
12:26, thanks for asking richard, im sad that my planned SFW of 2% probably wouldn't pan out given the low expected returns of my portfolio as a whole, would have to kick it up to 3%, and i still don't know how to deal with sequence of returns risk - might have to get creative with that too
