This piece says more about Al Jazeera's agenda than the topic. As a Mexican, I am very disappointed with this biased report. Why not talk about the historic infrastructure projects, or social programs such as the pensions for the elderly, scholarships for youth, aid to the poor. The crime issue was inherited from the last 70 years of neoliberal politics. Mexicans are not stupid Al Jazeera.

What’s Al Jazeera’s agenda? How were the last 70 years “neoliberal”? Suddenly politicians like Adolfo López Mateos are neoliberal just because? What historic infrastructure projects? The Yucatan Train? The Santa Lucía Airport? Hardly historic. The social programs? PRONASOL and PROGRESA were lauded all around because it lifted people out of poverty, how many people did BIENESTAR lift out of poverty?

You only interviewed 1 side of the story. You didn't background check the political preferences of your interviewees . Also, you gave the most superficial explanation of what the opposition is.

Shake on this analysis. Calling a government populist without caring about mentioning anything about macroeconomic policy, fiscal policy, foreign investment. Wondering why a government remains strong and why the people favors it without asking only opponents is a sign of excellent journalism. Last but not least. M, non of your guests talk about the judiciary being one of the most corrupt entities in Mexico and granting impunity to known criminals.

Amlo is the best president Mexico has ever had! The opposition is not even close to catching up to Morena and that is due to the fact that everyone is waking up.

In Mexico the executive power (the president) and the judicial power (the judges and judicial system) are separated, many of the judges and senior officials of the judicial system are bought, that is why justice in Mexico does not arrives, President AMLO has exposed them on many occasions..... and about the electoral system, we also know that it does not work due to corruption. AMLO is in favor of democracy. All public positions must be chosen by the people of Mexico

It's not just the courts, The supreme Court should be respected regardless, the lower courts is what is failing since the supreme courts tries a lot of the cases. What AMLO is portraying of them is just politcal. Corruption doesn't only extent to the Supreme Court but to the executive who works alongside the president; remember Garcia Luna for Felipe Calderon?

What happened with AlJazeera? I am amazed at this horrible super biased content. As other comments say, misconceptions; forgetting to talk about Calderon, PAN or PRI; or about previous elections; or about previous electoral fraud; etc. Shame on you, AlJazeera.

Well what Falko said about government negotiations with cartels was something that the PRI that ruled 70 years in Mexico created. Up to this day we are still trying to find a way to adress this complex problem. I think this interview needed historical context, it's like only looking at a tree instead of the forest.

I think Carlos missed the mark as well when he stated that people seemed to ignore the problems of security. What he is not acknowledging is that mexicans are pretty aware that this monster was created and maintained for 70 years by the PRI party. That when PAN arrived they had to collect the pieces and tried to solve it with a different approach that turned out to be awful and that Morena is now tackling the problem from a different angle. We are witnessing social regulation, society is wise, so why treating this topic in a shallow manner?

@@angryahole they are filing a case regarding guns in the US to reduce their attack capacity. Also they have expressed the concern about the huge consumption that the US represents as a business. They understood that this is a big systemic problem and that there is no point in creating an internal was on drugs if we don't have any cooperation from the US on those matters. The problem is so big that now europe is also looking for ways to tackle this problem as well through international cooperation.

As a Mexican living abroad, this interview has motivated me to make sure that I vote for Sheinbaum in June 2024. Plan C must go forward; Mexico needs a judicial reform, otherwise the powerful and the criminal will continue using the Judicial power (as they always have, even before Lopez Obrador, our current president) to not face any consequences for their actions. We Mexicans want those changes, the judicial power is corrupted and provides impunity to powerful criminals.

Those changes cannot happen until the Supreme Court makes it's policy, the constitution doesn't allow the legislation to reform the Supreme court unless the constitution gets changed and that's the most dangerous way to go as what history as shown.

Sheinbaum is the best option for president. Xochilt has come across as a liar who just copies the successful tactics used by MORENA. But she goes way farther in offerings. Help for all, medicine for all, hospitals for all, (I wonder where the money for all that is going to come.) But in the begining of her candidacy, she said that the help for old people ought to be only provisional. Later, she realized of her huge mistake, and said she had not said what she had already said. So she looks more of a liar than anything. A genuine copy of the party she represents, PRI.

I see many Mexicans here believe this isn't a good coverage of the election...any recommendations of an account that covers it more accurately for those of us that can't tell how biased this video comes across?

“Identity” reasons for why amlo is popular is such a strange euphemism that I can only imagine it’s a conscious effort to obfuscate talking about why working class Mexicans have a strong association with the president. Millions of Mexican have been uplifted from extreme poverty, simple as. There’s new industrial jobs for them with a minimum wage that was increased 5 times over amlo’s presidency. Omg is my first time watching a reportage from Aljaazera. Its baaaaad, very partial and very narrowminded perspective, almost feels like the same narrative the alarmist media use here (kind of the equivalent Foxs news in USA) The guy that say he lived in Michoacan describes a very surreal situation. I live in the neighbour state, and is not at all like this. Very sad the ammount of missinformation. I thought the were imparcial. Absolutely no consideration about the new normal of stability and increased level of life. The previous administrations was way way way worse concerning Security and war on drugs. Rise in political violence? You mean, decrease? Try doing research before posting such biased topic, you are not fooling anyone in Mexico.

The problem here is the fear and intimidation that nobody sees behind the scenes, imagine being a schoolboy growing up in Mexico under the "mind control" of the intelligence services and then suddenly you decide to get involved in politics or the intelligence services puppeteers you to get involved and suddenly not only are you looking at a state drowning in cartel violence, mass murder, slaughter houses etc. knowing that at any moment like many police officers etc you could be kidnapped and murdered or worst chopped up by the cartels and then on top of this you haven't even got the state and public sector to protect you from them because the cartels have infiltrated the police, the army, the intelligence services and even the heart of government, the paranoia and fear and intimidation behind the scenes when the public and society aint watching must be sky high, the fear and intimidation that a cabal in the mexican state connected to cartels must use to keep their "dogs" in place must render any politician looking to have a serious affect on mexican society incapable of doing anything, one wrong move, one act of disobedience and your own kind, those that work for a cartel cabal linked network in the heart of the mexican public sector, will hand you over to your violent cartel death, and then once that happens the same cabal will use dirty tricks to cover it and paint the picture that the cartels have no power in the state and the state is stable and integral when the opposite is true, the entire mexican state is infected by a virus, an epidemic of paranoia and distrust which means nobody can trust anyone enough to try and shut cartel problem down.
