Democracy: When the ruling class gets the desired result. Populism: When the ruling class does not get the desired result. Negative connotations to refusal of dominance. Positive connotations to DOMINANCE.

According to this video to be a populist you need to: 1) Champion the people against the despised elite 2) Use a crisis to motivate people 3) Speak plainly (shocking language) which is not what a life time politician usually does How are any of these things bad? The media is constantly shitting on populism.

Marine La Penn is not far right. Protectionism is not a far right policy, it's a left leaning policy. Nationalized Utilities is not a far right policy, it is a left leaning policy. Arguing the sovereignty of a nation is not left or right leaning.

Populists are always socially right(ish) and economically left(ish). The term alt-right would be much more fitting for her. Far right are monarchists and anarcho-capitalists.

Six months late, but here is an explanation. Populists claim to represent the "will of the people". There are at least problems with that. First, there obviously isn´t such a thing as a general will of the people. Different people want different things. Hell, you and I probably expect different actions from our government. Second, who then are "the people"? Is it everybody? Just non-muslims? Just white males? Who?

Marine Le Pen is definitly not a populist. She is far to the right and represents the anger of French people but only about politics. Jean Luc Melenchon is populist, at least he tries to; he wants to fight poverty first by stopping the hackneyed politics in France. In France, and it's weird, the biggest politicians are currently running away. It's beginning to change for real in France

Le Pen ain't far to the right, that is nonsense, just because the Fake News MSM says something and repeats it dogmatically with endless repetition, doesn't make it true. Melenchon might have won except for the idiotic French electoral system, a version of FPTP that the US also uses.

  • @mtk77621

@@whykhr The idiotic french electoral system, allowing those who get the most votes to be elected president. And America's great electoral system, allowing people to win with less votes than their opponent. Truly a great display of democracy by America.
