What's behind South Africa's surge in gun violence? | DW News
South Africa is grappling with a surge in gun violence. The problem was put in the spotlight after three separate shootings in one weekend left 22 people dead. In all three incidents, suspects opened fire on people in bars before speeding off in vehicles.
But even before these shootings, gun crimes in South Africa were increasing at an alarming rate. An average of 23 people are shot and killed in South Africa every day, according to the country’s annual crime statistics.

Exactly.. not in SA.. To SAPS those are money bags right there.
Most of the automatic rifles used are AK47s. Neither the police nor the soldiers use that kind of weapons, and they are not manufactured in South Africa. And also, those rotten military at the borders and also rotten police officers are a contributing factor to this issue. But another one may be the fact that there are no public places to maybe say let kids learn other things after school that will keep them busy. When I grew up we had a lot of them. Look at the quality of life for everyone before and after 1995. We see "surge in violence" every year since 1995.
Bheki Cele is a liar ask me...
When Farmers are killed it is said to be normal crime. This is normal crime
I think a big source of these AK's in South Africa is through the borders - the problem is that South Africa doesn't have a dedicated border security force, we just use regular police. Police are great but they aren't specifically trained to screen and manage borders, we need a specially trained force with the correct equipment to scan vehicles and people crossing borders to ensure that those weapons don't come into South Africa. The police can then deal with those that already are in the nation and get rid of them
I don't know why this article seems to give the impression that this is new.. Since 1994 there has been an exponential increase in violent crime. To improve anything in South Africa, change the government. That's it.. It's not that difficult to grasp
