    Hi Jeanelle, two questions: (1) If I decide to transfer or work at a different school district, will I start off at Step 1 in their salary schedule? Or will I continue at the same step from my previous school district? (2) Let's say I completed 190 units towards my Bachelors degree. Once I received the degree, do the additional 10 units count as my + credit? Love the video!

  • @jeannelle_

    @jeannelle_

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi! If you transfer to a different school district they will not (shouldn’t) put you on step 1 because your salary step is based on experience (years of teaching) & your degree + college units you have. They will have their own salary schedule and based on all above they’ll put you in a specific step. 2) usually, yes. Once you have your bachelors degree the additional units will count as extra. This depends on school districts.

    When they include the extra credits beyond a BA/MA degree, do they require them to be credits in education courses? Or is it just any valid college credit that you happen to have on your transcript?

    Hi Jeannelle! I used to be a teacher and left to pursue a different career but thinking about switching back. I was wondering, why do you think school districts use salary schedules? It seems like it is hurting teacher's pay. Are there ever school districts who are flexible on salary schedule placement?

  • @jeannelle_

    @jeannelle_

    Hi, based on what I think.. we have salary schedules because everyone might have more/less experience & more/less college credits. The more college credits & experience you have the higher you’ll be in the salary schedule. Also salary can be different due to location & school districts.

    @@jeannelle_ Yeah, I think that's also true in other fields. Where education and experience affect pay, but it seems like for teaching it is minimized in comparison. Difference might be 10-30k in the long run where as other industries it could be 60-100k pay difference.

    Hey but what about the percentage increases though? For your example of Redding, CA- If you’re making $46,942 per year and there is a 5% annual increase. When you’re step 2, yes the step increase doesn’t change but the 5% brings you up to $49,289 that’s a $2,347 raise per year. Are you just acknowledging the step increase because that’s not the true salary increase.
