Lewis’s death hit me hard, but personally Barbara’s hit the most. While it’s embellished, what it seems like actually happened to her is the most chilling to me.

Removing all the monsters and fiction, it seems she was murdered. The news did say that a killer, who impaled and ate their victims, was loose. If we piece it together, Barbara was killed and eaten along with Rick, hence why an ear was left. Probably the reason why her body was never found too...

There is a family tree.😂❤️✌️

I just noticed something after playing the game for a second time. When you first enter the house and you walk to the library and look through the peephole, she tells us that Edie always said everyone who ever died was burried in the library, even tho this statement is not true. I think what Edie wanted to tell Edith with that sentence is that all the stories of all the family members that had passed away stand for their death. So that was what Edie ment with everyone is burried in the library, cause her diary was in there...

Milton's disappearance is linked to another game by the same developers 'The Unfinished Swan' where he is the character 'The King'. If his flip-book is accurate he used his magic paintbrush to leave this world for that one.

Lewis' story made me tear up when I first played it, and was probably my favourite, Gregory's story was a close second and almost brought me to tears as well. I teared up at the ending as well, the whole story was masterfully crafted with the utmost care and creativity; for the game to be this emotionally impactful in such a short space of time is a remarkable feat. If you calculate the exact dates on her gravestone, Edith Jr. was 17yrs 11mths and 4days old when she dies. It's so depressing, she would have been 18 in less than a full month, she wasn't even able to make it to a legal adult before she dies... Born: February 14th, 1999 Died: January 18th, 2017 I love this game so damn much. It's storytelling and world building is some my favorite in any game or even story I've seen. The tragedy is immaculate and awful all at the same time. Especially how they never tell everything, they never let that story about the night Edith was born be finished, there are a lot of questions never answered about the family members. And that's perfect, because it's incredibly realistic, most of us will never get the endings to stories we were told as kids, or even find out what stories were real or not, because we were relying on another family members memory to tell the stories accurately. And humans retellings are usually never completely accurate to real life, and the longer someone tells it, it usually gets less realistic, until it barely sounds real anymore. And ever generation has a different perspective of the story, so it's impossible to ever really know the truth of the stories you're told. And the way them believing made the curse real. If you get used to something awful, you tend to expect it at all times, it becomes the norm. And sometimes that can destroy you, like it did Walter for example. He let his fear control his life, and when he tried to live for himself, it was too late, he had wasted his life because he was scared. Rightfully so, but still. I love even the way the detail explains why Edith Sr. and Dawn dealt with the past so differently, it showed well how the past, and all the bad was more comforting to Edith Sr, she cared and wanted all of it to be known, to be revered, to be remembered by all, her stories are what kept her alive, what kept her sane in the deaths of everyone she loved, she kept them alive by remembering, that was how she coped. While Dawn was so traumatized from everyone she loved leaving and dieing around her, and being surrounded on all sides by dead people's memories, and sought to escape it however she could, she was terrified, and it got her. And how Edith Jr.'s coping mechanisms of stories was almost the reason so many of them became scared, because they didn't find the same comfort Edith Sr. did, they just saw ghosts all around them, memories of people long gone, everywhere, unable to escape the ghosts, and by the time they did, they feared becoming one of the ghosts. You notice the only one who never really seemed scared of death was Edith Sr., and she outlived them all. All of them either just had awful luck, were unhappy with their lives, or was running from their past, except Edith Sr., she lived and accepted it as it came, until she was finally left by herself, and died probably before that night even ended, her kryptonite (like how beung surrounded by death was the others fear) was being alone. I don't if any of that actually mattered to what happened to each of them, but I find it interesting how each story is told, how it represented each person in their perspective, or at least as close as possible. It's all explained from Edith Jr.'s perspective, so all of it is in her perspective, but still is able to be so unique to each person, and I genuinely love how they displayed that, it really comes across in the game. Sorry this is a ramble, I just really really love this game! I finished sobbing after getting to the end once again, and just had to comment. This game is so underrated Istg, I wish more people had the experience of playing it. It's one of those games you can't really ever forget, even if you want too because of the topics in it hurt sometimes to think about, but the details, the story, the humanity of the experiences, it is just too good to not remember.

With the whole story going back and forth between fact and fiction I can imagine two stories to Milton. Fiction: He's in another game. Possible fact: He spent a lot of time looking for secret passage ways, but not all pathways in a house are somewhere you should enter. There are lots of stories out there of people who fell between the walls of their houses and died there. It's possible that could have happened to Milton. If where he fell was narrow enough, he wouldn't have been able to bang on the walls or even draw enough breath to yell.

@@TheDoodlingGirl Are you saying because he painted a door? Even that adds to the fantasy reason. But in a real life situation, kids draw random things all the time. • @TheDoodlingGirl

    @TheDoodlingGirl

    4 ай бұрын

@Senfree I was thinking the door could be the developers hint of what happened to Milton. Kids do paint randomly, but I think Milton was inspired by the secret passages he kept finding inside his home. Artists take inspiration from the environment around them. The house is a maze, and that could lead to Milton's fascination for puzzles and mazes. You can also tell that Milton was a very gifted kid as well, definitely if this story is related to the 'The Unfinished Swan' If Milton is the king, Milton was intelligent and arrogant. This pride could have been the reason he got stuck. Milton probably was warned not to explore the house, and did it anyway. The writer could be hinting about what actually happened through what you suggested. Milton found his way into a part of the house where he shouldn't go by accident, and got trapped there. It could be a clever solution to the mystery right under your nose. With all the exaggeration of the truth, the simple accident makes the most sense. (Also, this solution fits with the rests of the deaths in the family too...) There are many areas that may look like 'doors' to kids too that only when you climb into it, then you realize the fatal error. (Also, it is a great reason to seal all the doors to the different rooms too. This could be modern Edith's eery feeling about the house too. The more I think about it, the more this theory makes sense...)

Edie Finch is such an interesting character. Rather than own up to her lethal levels of irresponsibility she nurtured and celebrated their "family curse". A convenient fantasy to shield the family from the crippling guilt of realizing they caused these deaths to happen. Think how weird it is to build the house like it is, with all these shrines to the dead. All the news stories she undoubtably took interviews for, making her "curse" feel all the more established in reality. I think when they left and she was alone she finally realized the truth, and took an overdose to escape the guilt.

I played this game the first time around in around 2018. I have always been a fan of Point-and-Click adventure games and games which have now earned the moniker "Walking Sims" really caught my attention that year. I'll recommend a few later but first about this game. I really love it, straight from the start. The one that now hits me the most is Gregory's because well... I have also lived through the loss of a child. Sam's was also tragic. As the dad of a girl, I can only imagine that his final thoughts would have been about Dawn. So I guess by extension, with these experiences and also having worked the mind numbing job of what working in a fish factory is, Lewis' story resonates with me. So really good all around. Now about other "walking sims" for you to try, first there is The Unfinished Swan which is by the same company (Giant Sparrow) and fits in with this game. Others are: Gone Home, Dear Esther, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and Datura, which may be a PS3 exclusive. Another recent game in a similar genre is Afterdream, and there is also The Forest Quartet. Interesting games.

I played this for the first time last weekend and really loved it. Went to bed that night and woke up screaming from a nightmare that my brother had died, this is why I should not play games like this because they stay in my brain and punish me in my dreams

If you think about it the ferry in the beginning of the game is very similar to the ship in Molly's story even if they aren't the same ship then you can tell they were made by the same company.

you both must be retired detectives... you examined every detailed of the game! xD but that brought a huge amount of information I overlooked when I played it... many parts of the story was cleverly woven into the scenery and the subtle details in the game… amazing…

Loved the playthrough; it's the third one of WRoEF I've watched this week, and each brings a fresh take and new insights and theories. On my run through it, Molly's story was interesting, but so fantastical I missed a lot of things I now see watching others play. It was Calvin that really drew me in, but Gregory was a kick in the guts and Lewis finished me off. It's 6 months since I played it, but it's stuck with me, I wonder if you've found the same. I've never been one for watching others play games, but started recently after finishing Stray, which you should also definitely try. These emotional Indy games have a bigger impact on me than all the GTAs and Mass Effects out there. Thanks for this.

I wasn't able to watch because I started getting 1st person motion sickness, but I looked up the story and it looks fun! If you like shirt playthroughs like this, I recommend Oxenfree. Really cool gameplay, very mysterious story, and it had me thinking about it for days afterwards. You should give it a try!

here to break down the deaths and any confusion!! Odin drowned with the house he built after his wife and son died. His only other child, Edie (Edith) and her husband Sven landed in Orcas island, right off from the shipwreck. At the time, their first child Molly had been born a few months prior. They finished the house, and then the first death struck. At this time, Molly had one other sister named Barbara. Barbara was about 3 years old when Molly had died. Molly was sent to bed without dinner 2 days after her 10th birthday, then decided to eat a series of nonedible things until eventually laying in her bed and dying. She was found the next morning. Then, when barbara was 6 when calvin and sam were born. 2 years later, Barbara is 8 and the twins are 2 when Walter is born. The first to die of these four kids was barbara. We don't know where the twins were at the time. She had to watch her other brother Walter while Sven was rushed to the emergency room. Barbara had broken up with her boyfriend, and later that night was eaten by cannibals. Walter had witnessed the ordeal, leading him to run away and hide for 30 years in the basement bunker. Sven dies sometime during the rest of this due to impact. A year after Barbara's death, Sam and Calvin now at age 11 are seen playing outside. Calvin loves space and wants to be an astronaut and fly. He then gives in to the crave he has for flying, spinning the swing over the tree branch to launch himself into the air. He dies from the fall and impact. Sam, now believing he is the only and last child to Edie and Sven, is miserable. He enlists in the military as soon as he can so then he doesn't have to deal with the pain that the room they shared had. He didn't know of Walter being right under his nose. After a long time, Sam meets Kay and gets a new room in the house. They marry and have their firstborn, a little girl they name Dawn. A while later, a boy they named Gus is born. Then Gregory is born. Gregory ends up drowning when he finds a way to fill the bathtub up again to continue playing. Right then Kay is busy divorcing Sam for unknown reasons. Gus is killed during the wedding between Sam and the unknown step mom. Gus is killed by impact when a pilar falls on him, smashing and crushing him. Dawn is horribly sad, moving as far away as she could up to the loft. She goes on a hunting trip with Sam some time around this. She kills a buck wich then threw Sam off the cliff and killing him from the impact of the fall. Dawn seeks comfort in religion, then quickly moves to India and meets Sanjay. They have their first born, a boy they call Lewis. then 4 years after Lewis's birth Milton is born. Milton is 7 and Lewis is 11 when Edith is born. Then, Sanjay died. Dawn brings her family back to the house reluctantly. 4 years later, Edith is 4 and Lewis is 15, Milton goes missing one day when he is 11. Only leaving a castle filled with paintings. However, he isn't actually dead. It is revealed to us how in each generation, only 1 child lives for a while. Lewis is killed by suicide. Edith by child birth while giving life to her son Christopher, as the fandom named him. In each line of the family tree, one person lives longer than the others. Everyone else dies around 10-11. Edie lives awhile along with Walter and Dawn. It is shown how Lewis and Edith die. There is a game that follows this, and it's about Milton. Go check out the unfinished Swan, and ty if you read all of this. I did a lot of math for this and I'm sorry I didn't give all the date stamps. Let me know if I missed anything. (Besides Walters death, he was just ran over by a train when Edith was 4. That part was clear in the game)

Will you ever play Telltales Game Of Thrones? I know absolutely no one talks about it. But it’s honestly one of the most underrated gems from telltale. It’s gory, intense, strategical, fun, the characters are likeable, the choices actually make big differences, and the story is soooo good. I don’t think it’s talked about because it’s overshadowed by TWD or Wolf Among Us. There hasn’t been a complete blind play through of the game in years, which is a shame.

Amusing y'all second guessing yourselves in the beginning when you were literally correct lmao About Gregory and the bathroom, dawn probably closed it off because the hidden false wall was in there. But the question is how did any of them go to the bathroom because she sealed the doors when Edith was 4 Then again she might've sealed the bathroom and great grandma's room weeks before they left to try and force Edie into going to the nursing home. Still don't know how Edie had the time to make the peepholes and name plates though.
