Have you considered emailing your footage to some department heads of vail resorts? This makes me super upset and I wasn’t involved you were very patient and respectful. I would have handled this very differently. This makes me never want to ride keystone. No one wants a tainted pass for no reason.

7 year ski patroller here. You guys were fine, you showed more regard than most I see on the hill. Wouldn't have stopped you or even gotten an itch to investigate.

This is the kind of staff attitude that make the hills a great place. Those Mountain Safety were totally out of their place, and seemed to have too much of a need for power over other riders.

9 years slalom ski racer even for the Romania team in France for an FIS Certified younth competition. 1st. they did nothing wrong, the pace was faster than other people on the slope 2nd. they did not put anyone in danger 3rd. the difference between us and European ski resorts, our ski patrol is more medical part and rescue than slope police that they come and pull you over.

The initial guy that ultimately stopped you was one that never saw you. He was lower on the run. He identified you by one of you having a selfi stick (said when he first saw you). Like a dozen other groups of riders. They called out the wrong group and if they ever realized it were too deep in to back out.

CWJ Ozanne nah, receptionist at the door of my high school had the job of issuing late slips which can cause detentions and she was relentless. You had to be in the school before the bell and there was a door to the lobby and a door to the hallway in the school. I got a late slip because the bell rang as I was walking through the lobby to the other door and also once got one when the bell rang while I was holding the door for someone.

Thank you for this interaction! Truly hope this video made some changes in staff. Folks are power hungry and need to keep their eyes on the real safety issues on the mountain.

I work at Keystone (started last year), and I can safely say that I haven't met any fellow employees like these guys in the video. All my coworkers are so nice and chill vibes all around. I hope that continues, and this incident is insanely ridiculous.

In France we don’t have any of those “safety” guys. You can just MOB down the mountain 🎿

We sure don't, and it might seem like that is a good thing but I know a ski instructor who was ploughed in to by a Belgian tourist and it was appalling how little help she got from the resort. There is no structure in place to even get the person's details or even hold them accountable. The instructor is in her 50s and will not be returning to her job. So maybe there is a middle ground where you can still enjoy the thrill of skiing fast while making sure people stay safe.

I hate that when people mention they were or are in the military when its completely unrelated to the subject. I wont take you anymore serious or respect you any more because of that.

I've been snow boarding twice and can say that the biggest issue is the mountain patrol or safety patrol stopping people in the middle of the run to talk to them about speed or what ever. The two times I went boarding I almost wiped out because of people stopping others to "chat"

Exactly this is crazy... people cutting across the run, sitting below a knuckle, using the whole run, riding a run above their skill level...no warning, good riders can’t even cruise that run without a warning its ridiculous.. it’s crazy how 1 or 2 rules in the skiers code are the only ones that get enforced and they don’t protect experienced riders

My friend who’s parents have both been ski patrollers has always said that if a mountain safety yells at you, don’t take it seriously but if a ski patroller yells at you, you messed up.

I used to ski _Keystone Resort_ back in the 1990's! This was a safety patrol power trip! Immediately asking for your passes kills the conversation, so that you can't tell your side of the story and defend yourself. The girl safety patrol immediately starts playing the victim by saying one of you "flipped her off" and that you all were "yelling" at her. That's ridiculous! I would've been furious! I think they just wanted to make an example of you guys, or they targeted the wrong snowboarders. I used to ski _Keystone Resort_ when _Whistle Punk_ (black diamond) still existed! It was a very narrow, steep trail, which was sadly removed, because too many people got hurt hitting the trees, I think. This was back in the 1990's! I guess you can't "bomb" _Schoolmarm,_ these days. That's sad! Great channel! I like it! You all were just fine! You are great snowboarders! 👍

I have to say, seeing that kind of strict approach would take all the enjoyment out of riding and definitely puts me off wanting to ride in the States

Cause the slowest skier is one standing in a lift line

They went for the passes right from the start; attempting to make their stop a valid one. Nothing you can do or say to get out of this injustice. Bad laws make outlaws out of good people.

Been skiing for years, only ever had a handful of encounters with ski patrol. Usually if I do have an encounter with them I try to keep it friendly & he understanding of what they are explaining to me…if I find the conversation isn’t going anywhere with them and they are just out to pull my pass I simply just leave, go to the car grab another jacket & get back to what I was doing, that or call it a day.

Go see what they're doing at Borreal while adding features for people that love riding versus the stripping of parks and features at Heavenly and Northstar in the last decade. Vail is trying to be more friendly to the the twice-a-season vistors while making the mountain more plain for the people that are in love with being on that mountain. Mountains are meant for those wanting to be on em.

in all honestly many snowboraders at your level tend to not care about others on the slope, But you guys seemed to be going at a normal speed and were very aware.

"Land of the free" XD Here in Europe I have never seen anything like this happen.

I snowboarded for the first time this year and was taken out by several skiers. I was yelled at for not getting on a lift in time and they basically pushed me onto another lift. A teacher from my school got a lift to the head because of these safety people. In my opinion, you and your mates did nothing wrong (not to say mine is totally correct considering I am only a beginner), some of the safety people think they have all mighty power over us because 'they know more than we do".

Very nice, good to know even if you hear slow down you must stop and ask again what's the speed limit. Definitely don't want my fun time shortened lol especially if it's some how dangerous even when you have video recording and never stop your recording especially when supervisors stop you they can end your vacation lol.

Everything about this is okay. Figures of authority need to be held accountable in times like this in hopes that others won’t be treated like these riders were in this situation. The video says it all, and I hope Vail does the right thing for these guys.

I’m a new rider (I’ve only been once) I went to copper and never saw anyone get stopped for being reckless, so is this like a regular thing I need to watch out for?

We got clocked in t-shirts at 73-75 mph a few years before the yellow jackets began. Right there. They’re way overdoing the safety thing. And from what I saw, they usually get the wrong people. The chick on her phone the whole time says it all, really.

If that's bombing a green run that I'm pretty sure I must be doing something called lightspeeding a green run because I don't think that it's even possible to ride any slower.

Completely inappropriate. They stereotyped you all immediately. They would not have used inappropriate language or thought you flipped them off if you were a clean cut, older skier. Judgement based off age and what you are wearing. Speed, green run, and miss understanding aside. Very unprofessional for a large company such as Vail.

My friends and I have these gloves from the company 10peaks that have easy zipper access to your hands, they’re worth it simply for how easy it is to flip people off with them

This is absurd man... I've been on that run many times and regularly straight-line down it. I have literally hit those exact jump you were going off of at a much faster pace and it confuses me why they stopped you.

Is there any update to this? Curious if they appologized?

This interaction kept me from booking a trip to Keystone. Ridiculous power trips from ski patrol is always a massive red flag.

They should get suspended for that and vail should make examples of them publically before they lose thousands to the ikon pass. This is not how customers want to be treated or should be treated. Vail doesn’t care. Worked for them for 2 years, 1 year being keystone. So corporate and by the text book but they don’t care about their customers enough to address it, they monopolize this business so it doesn’t matter in their eyes.

I was all over school yesterday. I wouldn’t call what I was doing as slow, but people were still passing me. I didn’t see any yellow yelling at anyone.

I was mountain safety at Keystone for a season, Celeste pulled me into her office and asked why I wasn't give out any warnings so after that I only gave out snowmobile lane warnings. These guys were showing control and giving enough space to other riders. I would have told you guys to take it easy on green runs and gave you all hot coco cards and end it with a "please ride safe"! This would have gave us yellow jackets more respect in the future.

Thanks for posting this. taking Keystone off my list. I dont go up very often so im not looking for these kinds of interactions. you were clearly riding safely and aware of your surroundings. the way they accused you of all these things, and then back peddling saying it was called in from above shows some unfortunate unprofessionalism. also, mountain safety should have their eyes on the mountain. not in their phone. if they are communicating with other mountain employees it should be on a radio. zero reason for her to be derelicting her job and being on her phone. gross.

I completely agree with you. These employees were out of line. You guys were in control and going slow the hole time. Plus skirting the edges and staying away from main crowds. They underestimate how controled an advanced snowboarder can be. Im just as controled at low speeds as fast speeds. Its a snow sport... the possibility of injury is always a thing. Its like driving and thinking youll never be in a accident. If you dont wanna get hurt dont go!
