Truth. A good Father will do anything for his son .. but there's a breaking pt for all. Or else you enable the addicted individual. I hope & pray for all young ppl nowadays!
I ran into him at A&M several times, but once in the spring before he left for the draft. It sticks with me because it was in a stair case alone. I never used the elevator and never saw anyone in the staircase. He was in there heading down from the advisors office (probably wrapping up whatever admin stuff was left at A&M) and he clearly just wanted to be left alone. He was in the staircase to avoid people. We made eye contact and I could tell he was dreading me talking to him, so I just nodded and passed by. Dude looked worn out already and he was only 21 years old. The celebrity status he had at A&M was unheard of and unhealthy for his situation. Every other time I saw him was at a bar or restaurant, but mostly bar. Most times he was still under 21 and his entire posse would swarm around him so he could take shots without anyone being able to get pictures. A picture of him drinking at that time would’ve been viral and on ESPN within minutes.

@@larryjacobs5713 I’m sure he did way more than drink. Never knew how much drug use especially cocaine was in the party lifestyle till doing my MBA. 31 and I don’t get partying in a club or rave environment. Didn’t get it during undergrad and certainly didn’t during my MBA. I sound like a lameo (and yeah I am) but the appeal of getting so blasted you don’t know what’s up or down doesn’t really make a lot of sense. I get other kinds of drugs that involves self exploration or relaxation but those usually aren’t addictive drugs and can easily be switched off. Doing something that gets you hooked for life without intervention just to have ‘a lot of fun’ that you may not even remember next day seems like a bad way to have fun. Means that what you’re doing wouldn’t be much fun sober.

As someone who went to A&M (and attended a season's worth of Johnny home football games as a student), I have a different take on the Cleveland thing. Johnny liked being the superstar, and that's a lot easier to do in college. I think he saw Cleveland as a place where he'd be the alpha right from the start, and then he'd ride in on his white (powdered) horse and save the franchise and the city. You don't get drafted by, say, the Tom Brady era Patriots or early Cam Newton Panthers and expect to sit at the big boy's table right away. At Cleveland, he legit thought he could save the franchise through talent alone as soon as he got there. But as you said, the modern NFL doesn't work like that. I hope he continues the good fight against his addiction and mental health issues.
Might be the greatest “backyard football” style player in college history.

Braxton Miller, RG3, LAMAR JACKSON, Vince Young, Baker Mayfield (of his for years played he only had 1 season not better than Johnny’s). If we not leaving it just to QBs Moss has an argument, Tavon Austin(I just wanted to through him in there but he probably didn’t), and Reggie Bush all had playground style games and were arguably better college players. Almost forgot Vick. Some of these players statistically aren’t close, but visually were superior and vice versa. Some players like Baker literally had the stats and the game.

@@ianm6214 they were better college backyard football players than he was in terms of visuals (RG3, Braxton, and Vick) in terms of accolades (Vince) and considering the era he played in you can make an argument for stats as well. It’s not about being a scrambler, it’s about basically who you think of when you remember Playing football as a kid. Visually there are better picks, accolade wise there are better picks, stat wise there are better picks, and I think as an all around pick Baker (has the accolades, the visual style, and the superior stats) is easily a better pick than Manziel. Lamar Jackson is easily the best pick though. He had the style and speed of Vick and could run like Braxton but better and could throw bombs down the field. But regardless man I love Texas and our football players.

Being a huge Montreal Alouettes fan, I almost died of excitement when I had heard he was coming to my team. I went out and bought everything with his name on it; I have at least two or three home and away jerseys. Man, was I pumped. Then I saw him play , and after like the third game, I knew he wouldn't last very long, and he didn't. Too bad, he could have been another Doug Flutie up in Canada if he only put in the effort.

Congrats on the house brother, honestly I'm grinding for the same thing for me and my family right now, and your accomplishments inspire me. Johnny was definitely a beast, especially in high-school and college. I wonder how he would have done if he buckled down and focused on the game instead of the fame
Cobgrats on the house FlemLo, well deserved ! I wish you and the family many more!
One of your best videos to date. Great to see the progression.
johnny manziel would have never been good in the league due to his play style. he never was a great quarterback and was more of an athlete and once he played the highest level defenses it showed.

Agreed, personal life aside, he was grossly overhyped in the draft and really should have been a day 3 pick.

@@sto1238 he could have been more like Josh Cribbs or maybe Taysom Hill. He did have a skill set that could have been utilized just unlikely at QB. The narrative that Johnny *could* have been great if he wasn't so messed up personally is completely false. If he had been a well-behaved good boy, he's likely just another Tebow.

Right….maybe watch again, dude going full blow at football could’ve been as good as Russ, he had the arm 100%, any highlight you saw was with about 10% effort, he was an elite athlete with a good arm and could improvise better than anyone, Johnny was special but never realized his full potential due to his work ethic. I hate when people act like his full potential was on display, not even close.
Johnny is what happens when u have immense talent & miniscule work ethics.
First time watching one of your videos. This is really well done. Thanks for putting it together and keep up the great work
Always been a college football head and have my games/players that I love to watch but when Johnny was at A&M, it was must see TV. I looked forward to it every week and never missed a snap. Great memories. Will always love Johnny

Your storytelling is really well organized and done, you deserve the success you are seeing and more. Thanks for the entertainment
Dude, I love your analysis. You hit on many different points and try to understand the underlying personal themes(as a human who is empathetic to the reality and the that issues these players went through or anyone goes through in life).Great stuff. You don’t pull any punches with your research, and you don’t hate on them either. Very nice, real journalism.
This guy takes you on a journey man, elite storytelling

I really like all this guys videos. Great topics, awesome research, well spoken, respected opinions, quality content. One of the biggest problem i have with these kinda "youtubers" or content providers is they always seem to make the videos about themselves... like theyre to busy showing their face to show real clips or pictures. Like im not here to stare at you, im here for the subject you're supposed to be talking about. Dude does show himself but he does it in a tasteful way. I can respect that. Im happy to follow mans content.
98% of men thirst their whole lives to have this kind of talent, yet an incredible talent like this comes along and throws it away for nothing.
These are so good. Love how they end on a positive note. Well done.

new sub here, your story telling is extremely easy to follow and i like that you humanized johnny. he was a young man that had all the talent and had a problem that nobody around him seemed to mind. i don’t look down on him for his immaturity, i would have been wild too under similar circumstances. lol
I hope Johnny has success in this new league he’s playing in.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💯

He was more interested in being a celebrity than an athlete at the end of the day! He would of rather been a entertainer or influencer then all time great athlete unfortunately he blew his gift he was given! This is why they say hard work and dedication will always trump talent with no hard work or dedication!
If Johnny would have had his head right and fully committed to being an NFL QB he could have had a Doug Flutie type of career, below average starter but an effective and dangerous back up
This sure ain't no clickbait. FlemLo pretty much tells you what happened. Amazing production, superior program, and perfect editing. Thanks, Q-da-Wayne, total respect.
"This is probably not the best way to make draft decisions..." Still sounds better than the apocryphal tale that Haslam drafted Manziel because some hobo told him to... (Definitely should've listened to that research firm, though...)
“I personally enjoy my freedoms so much that I couldn’t work for anyone else, and had to figure out how to work for myself”! @FlemLo Raps, I know what you mean. YIKES, I watched this guy play football. It was as if the field went one way, and Manziel went the other. And he is good with the golf sticks!
Your videos are always fantastic. Thank you for the great content and research. Congrats on the new house!
Flemlo! This young brother if gifted and clearly takes his work seriously enough to produce high quality content on a consistent basis. I can’t imagine that KZread ( social media), will be the last stop for him. Despite the “ freedom” and real material benefits it provides.
