What Really Breaks A Fast? (Fasting Basics 2) | Jason Fung

What breaks a fast? Does tea, or coffee or cream or sugar break the fast? How about diet soda? Dr Jason Fung discusses what you can take during a fast and how this affects weight loss. These fasting variations can still be very effective for weight loss. Check out my blog at / drjasonfung

This is Sooooooooooooooooo true,,,,,,,,, but it doesn't only apply to food.. I use to make fun of people that were cheaters on their spouse.. (youtube will censor if I use the word for it) The excuse everyone uses when caught is "It was an accident" ..... They just happen to accidently both be naked in a bedroom all by themselves, and accidently fall into said bed and....... you get the rest of the accidents that happened..... Its a matter of what is important to you.. Not only physically but morally.... We have become a morally bankrupt nation and I believe it was done on purpose.

True. My scale didn't budge for a full month, but my pants were loose, belly flatter, etc. It drove me crazy! About the 5th week my scale started the incredibly slow downward movement. I've slowly stepped up to a regular daily 16/8 fast, and now I can easily do a 36-hour fast that I have done twice this year so far. My brain just works better. I am more productive. I look forward to getting up in the morning because my sleep is improving. My resting heart rate, BMI, visceral fat, and blood pressure are all headed down. My inflammation and the constant pain in my lower back and legs are gone. My sex life is back after over two years in the toilet. The power of fasting cannot be overstated.

Danielle I suggest you come at it through a series of steps. Go a week or two with 18/6., then go another week or two at 20/4. I find 20/4 challenging, so it's a mind game to bring yourself to follow through. After that pick a day and try OMAD. I find that from 11AM to 2PM it the toughest time, so this is when I exercise. In my case go for a multi-mile walk. That seems to take my mind off the hunger and during the walk, I don't feel hungry. I first tried OMAD as only two days of the week. It was about two months later that I decided to switch to OMAD every day. I'm now about one pound away from my target, so it's only one more week. It is a challenge, but you have to really set your mind to just push hard to do it. I hope this helps.

Diet soda contains artificial sweeteners that don't raise your blood sugar, but still trigger dopamine and hunger responses. That's a reason to not drink them. However, the bigger reason is they cause gastrointestinal issues. Sucralose and aspartame actually cause gut inflammation. They're very unhealthy. Things like stevia or erythritol are much better, but can still cause some issues. I'd only have zero-carb drinks once in a while, perhaps weekly or less.

Leche noir I believe is because people don’t really want to do it. With fasting I’m also doing keto and when I went to research receipts to make sure I was doing right all I found was recipes that I don’t really eat on a daily basis like pizza, cakes, cookies, energy bars. So if u look for Facebook groups they’ll say that u won’t break fast if is less than 30 calories when is pretty clear if u ingest any calories we break fast. Unfortunately when it turns to fad a lot of miss information to sell more stuff.

I’m 28 and without knowing about intermittent fasting I’ve been practicing it for a long time. Ever since I came to know about 24h and all other extended fasts, I tried it and I feel better than I have ever felt. I feel more energised, active, I’ve lost some weight. My body and mind feels great. Thank you doctor for putting all the information out for free. You are doing a noble job.

Dr Fung, that wasn't Mitch's story, its ny exact story. Im on omad n recently i did 40 hrs fast. I felt sooo good. Pain in my knee n shoulder disappeared, i feel like someone washed my inner system. My head is clear from a recent ( 2 years ago)major surgery n all the morphine n aesthetic i took. Now i feel normal again. The weight machine moves very very slowly for me. But my kids tell me im getting slimmer. In my omad i eat healthy to cover my nutrition. So i intend to go on even though my weigh machine is slow. Thankyou for today's video. I was very encouraged.

I just did a 7-day fast and lost 17 lbs. A couple of years ago I did another fast, it lasted only 3 days though, because the headaches and dizziness were too much to continue. I did not have that issue this time and I know it was because I took vitamins and minerals. I had biotin, cod liver oil, salt, and added fresh lemon juice to my water, that was all. I am going to do Keto OMAD for today and tomorrow then start another fast, I think I will do only 5 days this time. I have a Hydrogen Water Generator Bottle coming on Monday, I think that will help me out a lot on my upcoming fast.

I have lost a significant amount of weight and my glucose levels are really good. My doc is impressed and i have shared what I do with my friends and family. Thank you Dr Fung. Thanks to your videos I've lost the fear of long fasts. I'm on my 42nd hour of fasting for the 1st time, goal to reach 72 hours. Surprisingly I feel great. Been only drinking green tea and water+salt+acv. The 1st 24 hrs were a bit difficult, but after 36 hours it's become a lot easier. I'm keeping busy physically and not hungry at all. My advice for people starting a long fast, make sure to keep busy. Don't do the activities that normally make you wanna eat (i.e. couch/tv).

The way I've always looked at it is you want to remain in fat burning mode upon waking up at least until noon. Took some getting used to but I always add whipping cream to my coffee which seems to work. I have a glass of 1/2 tsp salt water and on days I do OMAD I'll drink lemon water with Stevia throughout the day. I do about 2 OMADS a week, typically Monday and Thursday. Wow, I've been doing this now for 4 years! I wasn't fat but was very unhealthy and definitely needed to keep my weight below a certain level. Your work has been a blessing.

Dear Doctor Fung. Thank you for helping save my life. Due to working in an office in an extremely stressful job, I just kept eating and eating, I put on so much weight and I felt sick when I looked at myself. My workplace gave a discount card for McDonald's - buy one get one free. Which I used every day. I had a cough which the doctors couldn't diagnose. I came across your videos and started fasting. Went 10.5 days and dropped my weight from 105kg down to 85kg. Started another fast last night and will continue until down to 67kg. My breathing and overall health is better. Thanks so much doctor.

It's taken me a year of different times of fasting, to feel comfortable with OMAD. I give myself 1.5 hours to eat dinner. Finished dinner usually by 7:00. Only water or a decaf coffee after dinner. Water or a Pellagrino during the day. Following Dr. Westman's page 4 list of foods. Been keto for 5 years and am such a turtle at losing! Thinking I'm eating to much, so really watching my carbs in my vegetables, and stopping my eating when full! I'll weigh and measure on the first and see if this woe is helpful! Will be 72 in March and been heavy since I was 8yo. I have many years of inflammation to correct!

I find that planning a fast is the most successful way. I keep myself distracted and always keep sipping from the water bottle. Early nights are vital to avoid that wanting a snack late in the day. My record so far is 68 hours and I hope that at some point this year I'll do that one week fast - it'll be a life time achievement in my eyes. I've also influenced two other people to try fasting, both love it and feel better for doing it. PS Loved your Guide to Fasting especially the bit about big food companies using formula of sugar and fat to keep us hooked.
