I left medical school at the beginning of internship 13 years ago so this is a shock that I'm being shown videos of this sort. I still finished this video, though. Great content. All the best! :)

Thank you so much for educating us on the pathology specialty and sharing your experience! I am a last year med student considering pathology. May I ask what your goal is with these videos? My wish would be to hear your thoughts about forensic pathology : ) Love your channel!

Hey, I have been doing some research. Thinking of pathology right now bec I think it resignates with my personality. But am already in my mid 30s. Do you think it's too late to start. Am a nurse but want to go to medical school and specialize in Pathology. please advice. Thanks

Hi! I definitely do not think it is too late to start med school. When I was a med student, I had classmates that were in their mid to late 30s, because they had other careers before they decided they wanted to go into medicine. Pathology is actually pretty great for your situation. You can finish med school and residency in as short as 7 years. Pathology also is not very physically taxing, hence why we have a ton of pathologists who refuse to retire even in their 70s.

Thanks for the content I just discovered your channel ! I was wondering if the computation of the different grades you have to do is labor intensive or not ? Is it done automatically or you have to go back to books/instructions to do that ? I am thinking of creating an app to help pathologists save time when performing their grading Thanks

The pathologic grading isn't that time consuming. It's usually just filling out a synoptic report template. What takes the most time is looking for the features to fill out the table. Though, every institution uses their own template, if you can make a more streamline template, it would be appreciated; however, it would have to interface with the EMR. There is a lot of considerations for an app like that.

Do you happen to know if other places tend to call pathologists "medical microbiologists" or are those 2 different jobs? I've been doing some research lately because I'm not sure what exactly I wanna do after undergrad. I'm trying to find as many options as possible so I don't potentially end up regretting going to med school.

Sorry, I'm not too sure on that. I know you can do a PhD and run a clinical chemistry lab. But generally I think hospitals prefer pathologists, since there are some lab certifications that require an MD.

Before I started med school I thought I'd go into family medicine. I didn't decide on Pathology till the end of MS3. I am actually planning on making a more detailed video about my path through medicine, and why I picked Pathology. Tune in for that if you want more info :)

Hi! Thank you so much for your video. Could you briefly tell me what a Chemical Pathologist does? Thank you in advance 😃

Hi, I'm not sure if you meant "clinical pathologist". They are the pathologists that are in charge of clinical labs in the hospital (ie. Chemistry, microbiology, hematology, etc departments). Anatomical pathologists are the ones that make the tissue diagnosis. I hope this answers your question.

Hii, can/do pathologists wear scrubs and a white coat to work, or are they forced to wear business casual?

The dress code for most pathology departments are pretty loose. I don't even own a white coat. I just wear scrubs to work all the time.
