What NVIDIA STUDIO really is?

Hey Andrey, I have had a question regarding octane and gpu for a while now and now thought this might be a good place to ask. Im running on a single rtx 2080ti with my pc and when using octane in c4d i keep having 2.5-4.5 gb of ‘unavailable’ vram meaning i cant use anything near to the 11gb capacity. Ive checked on various forums and people are saying that win10 is making 20% pf vram unavailable to the user regardless of the total vram amount. But even so, some of my scenes have up to 4.5 gb vram unavailable which makes it super hard to work with complex geometry and textures. If you have any knowledge or advice on this id be happy to hear it, i cant be the only one to experience this. Also, thanks for all your vids, they help me a lot!

Hey, this issue been present for a while. Since Win10 I think. The only workaround I found is to work on Linux - it doesn’t have such problem. Apart from that there’s nothing we can do I’m afraid. This is up to Microsoft. I was running all my stations on Linux for some time 😄

I'd have liked to see a comparison between the game driver and studio driver, but if past experience serves me correctly, it probably just means it's meant to be more stable and, there aren't like, magical performance improvements. The main issue with MacOS is fundamentally Metal API. As soon as Apple went on its own separate way, no developer really seemed to invest the time and resources needed to implement and maintain another codebase (instead let's say Vulkan). This is even worse in the FOSS community. So with Apple, all the major software is CPU wise. We'll see with the Apple Silicon transition if it gets even worse.

The big question for me is, if you are streaming gaming, what is better, Studio driver, or Game Ready driver. I am streaming on a one pc setup, with one GPU an RTX 2080 TI. I could imagine, that the Studio driver is improving the usage of the streaming application, and the Game Ready driver improves the game's performance. So i am not running games on max frames per seconds, i cap the frames at 120 fps or 180 if possible. Should i use Studio drivers in my case, since i am not pushing the game 's frames to the maximum anyways, or will this give me more input lag in the game, compared to the Game Ready driver ? At the moment, i always used the game ready driver, because i thought, the game comes first, input delays are the smallest, if the game is focused the most by the driver, and this way the visual product, which is the gameplay, has such a good quality, so that what the streaming software is encoding, and sending to the platform, i am streaming on, would be the best it can be, with no microstutters and so on. But sometimes there are issues, like visuals, and sound not being in sync in the vod. Strangely, if doing clips from it, or exporting the whole vod to another platform fixes this issue. Btw , your link to the fireflies lamp doesn't lead to the product anymore. Is there maybe a name i can google and find it with ?

Im thinking about buying the new GeForce RTX 3090 card and placing it in a GPU cabinet and using it with my Mac Powerbook 16". Have you any experience with it. I want to use it most on sets and while working over a time period at another studio. Also than using the workstation remotely. I love the home office and like you I have made it the habitat that I love to be in and that's a must for really long days. My workstation is powerful with 2 x RTX 8000, Dual CPU, and 500 GB of Ram. Using a Gtech Shuttle XL with Thunderbolt 3 that give me 120TB and to slots for portable drives and readers for RED. Love it but in January a drive was broken and it took them 5,5 months to get it from the USA to Polen in 2 days where it then rested at the local DHL for 4 months and then resting for another one and a half months at their office. The raid was saved without the drive so it was not really a big problem. As im asking a question. I watched the Russian Guardians movie yesterday and while there is some parts of great VFX it lacks a lot. Russia should have skilled talents that can produce Hollywood quality work. Where do you see Russia as a motion picture producer will stand over the next 5 years when it comes to quality in VFX and overall good production? Thanx you for all your great work its always inspiring and updating my skill level!!

Is here really difference between Nvidia Geforce Studio and Nvidia Geforce GameRady drivers?

  • @DavidAllen_0

    @DavidAllen_0

    4 жыл бұрын

As for performance, really there's *no difference* I get the same exact frame rate in the same games, same latency, everything. Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Doom Eternal, Sekiro, etc.. They're the same with either drivers. With rendering too, I notice *very little to no difference* between the two. I'm sure the primary difference is less crashing. Maya used to crash every 30 min, and if it didn't, the viewport will cease to refresh, irritating me to the point of reopening the program. After switching from Game-Ready to Studio drivers, I haven't had a single issue since. But I switched 100% over to Blender shortly thereafter anyways, so.. Nvidia stated that the CRDs are the same thing as GRDs except that the CRDs are more stable and thoroughly tested prior to release. But if you're a gamer, *get the game ready drivers* If you do both games and creative apps like streaming with gaming or gaming videos.. then get the *game ready drivers* and if you experience crashes or bugs, switch to the *creative drivers* if you don't game at all, get the *creative drivers* *Edit* -> Here's a link to answer your question more thoroughly: www.thefpsreview.com/2019/08/12/nvidia-studio-driver-vs-geforce-game-ready-driver-performance/8/

I am a PC guy but I am very curious how these new mac m1s will compete in the future with Nvidia cards and intel and amd processors. If they continue to integrate and figure out more about how to blend this tech with GPUs as well who knows. Mac could be a creative powerhouse again. If they can drive their price vs power cost down I would consider switching back to them in the coming years. Although I still think we have a bit for that time to come. Also, thanks for the info on this Studio stuff. I actually just recently realized they had these and started using the studio versions, but I did want more info on them. I found this out because of the issues I am having in Resolve with what seems to be from one of the more recent Nvidia updates. For whatever reason, I am still having problems but they are fewer. Until last month I really have never had stability issues with resolve or Fusion, and I have been working in Resolve for about 2.5 to 3 years.

Funny fact. M1 is based on “Arm”, which is owned by nvidia :) so I wouldn’t predict any Apple domination in creative world (3D world specifically)

About week ago I built PC with rtx 2060 super. And tested rtx in vray 3d max. And oh my God... Real time render now real time!!😄 But it often has some bugs with TyFlow. Sometimes after restarting render it just don't show TyFlow stuff or even anything on scene.

My biggest question in this is why nvidia pushed the whole rtx so much specially for the adobe suite and then adobe can’t even make the GPUs be recognized in premiere pro except for exporting.

GPU renders are calculating on CUDA cores mostly. If you would google how many cuda cores your quaddro have vs 2080 you’ll understand why quaddro makes no sense in CG rendering

  • @AndreyLebrov

I should clarify that it makes no FINANCIAL sense, your current card probably performs the same as 2080, so there’s no real reason to change it if you already own it

  • @uwirl4338

I'd recommend Substance Painter if your focus is on texturing and C4D or maybe Blender if your focus is on rendering. Just grab Substance Painter's trial and watch some of the official tutorials which are very clear and straight to the point, and apply what you've learned to free 3D models with clean UVs. The software has a rudimentary renderer but if you want to do lighting too you'll need to export to something like C4D or Blender (or Maya or Katana but I suspect those far exceed your needs and are kind of clunky to use). Good luck and don't give up to frustration!

I would love to See Gigabyte Aero running with external box to w/Quadros RTX 4000 my card Running programs like blender, hype, affinitydesigner, affinityphoto, Calvary, Final cut pro, motion5, and da Vinci resolve, to name a few.
