I don't know why I started watching this. There's no way I really wanted to watch a thirty-nine minute video about Dani California. I wasn't even sure if 'stink' was being used in the negative at first. I thought maybe it was being used as praise, like "Man, that's a stinky groove. Play it again!" But every minute that past just reeled me in further and I couldn't stop. This shit is gold!

It's the little details....I've watched all of Pat's videos, like, at least 3 times over, and still pick up on things I've missed before.

I’ve always thought that Dani California is way too chili pepperish for its own good. It’s like a caricature of an RHCP song: California, nonsense lyrics, “ayo”, etc. Everything people make fun of them for, turned up to 11.

It genuinely astonishes me how these videos can keep getting better and better each time. I cheered for Justin Hawkins pulling up on Kid Rock, I nearly cried with nostalgia during the Weezer episode, threw my beer at the screen in exasperation at the Superbowl upset ... and now dude's rewriting Flea basslines like it's nothing. Amazing stuff. Absolutely amazing.

The first concert I went to that my parents didn’t drag me to was Chili Peppers in ‘99. They were promoting “Californication” and supporting them was Foo Fighters who were promoting “There is Nothing Left to Lose”. Chili Pepper and Foo Fighters on the same show after each dropped a massive album that were actually good. And John was back in the band. Amazing show. I went with my friend who was a massive Chili Peppers fan. I could never really get into Chili Peppers post “Californication”. Partially because my music tastes changed to harder and faster stuff, but partially because I just didn’t think anything post ‘99 lived up to “Californication”. That was such a good album.

Have you checked out "By The Way" album? In my opinion it's the only one that comes close to Californication. The Zephyr Song, Can't Stop, Dosed, Venice Queen. It's got some really great songs in my opinion

Do NOT cut these videos short. Long form is a lost art form.

My poor male brain doesn't get it, but love Pat even more for acknowledging this phenomenon too

So here I am, thanksgiving weekend at my in laws with absolutely nothing to do and I went for it. I have to say, a much more enjoyable 40 minute rip sesh than I expected, good job!

Critique a really horrible song like Mary Jane's Last Dance; Dana video at least is watchable and not good or bad. Why not end it with Purple Haze guitar solo .. the whole video is a tribute to Hendrix and the rock greats. The guy is really stretching more than a bit.

The irony that I think this video is incorrect, and disagree with a lot of his arguments... Yet this rip of a 20 year old joke, in a video about un-subtle rips, was so subtly placed I have to respect it.

I am a feminist until the day I die but I’m so glad he addressed this. Why do you do this to yourselves? Why do you give yourself an extra thing to do before you go to bed? Do you actually sleep with all the pillows in the bed? I’m genuinely concerned

I just stack my pillows up instead of out. Makes it so I don't have to throw pillows on the floor, I only do 4-5 though lol. Since I'm a side sleeper, I also use 1 of those 5 pillows to put in between my knees and thighs to keep my hips straight and minimize my already too much back pain. Lol I do have to say though, putting throw pillows to cover like ¼th of the bed is nice. Like 2 stacked regular pillows and then 2-3 throw pillows out. Anymore than that and I think it looks ridiculous. Like, when pillows literally cover ½ the bed, it doesn't look comfortable to me at that point, indtead it just looks like a pain in the ass. Lol Also... I just got to thinking... 🤔 Do they call them "throw" pillows because you _throw_ them off the bed before going to sleep? Lol

Exactly. And in defense of the song. If you ever see the music video... Copying shit is kind of the point lol. That being said... It wasn't exactly a hit in my book lolz. Even recent chili peppers are not a huge hit for me. Sadly 92 might be their best year...

Ya know Pat, something I like about your channel more than other music channels is that rather than explaining 800 different chord progressions and keys and stuff in excruciating technical detail every single time, you describe stuff as "a Parker Jr" or a "three blind mice" and it makes it real easy for my filthy amateur music brain to parse and comprehend, and I really appreciate that about ya :)

Ghostbusters is also a total rip of Soul Finger by the Bar-Kays. Check it out. The main riff is exactly the same, and it even has a chorus of little kids shouting "Soul finger!" in the same cadence as "Ghostbusters!"
