Thank you. Yes, two of mine as well. I had a few model friends who worked with Bourdin... he was eccentric, but brilliant.

Thank you for this! It was informative and fascinating to look at his work from your perspective. I'm almost 60 and used to love to look at fashion magazines, I have a file folder full of photos I'd take out for inspiration. I absolutely agree that the photos aren't the same any more, it's rare these days for me to buy a magazine just for the photos. What happened???

Hi Don, thanks for the video Guy Bourdin is one of my favourite photographers. I think the two images at 10.55 are both by Helmut newton from around 1998. best G

Hi Don, the "mysterious houses" are just typical beach cabins in Normandy, and I'm quite sure that this photo was taken at about 12km from my house.

Yep. I think they have the same sort of beach thing on Long Island and Fire Island, NYC. He would find the most interesting locations. And these tiny houses appear in several photographers from the time. Pete Turner, Art Kane, and Jay Maisel all have shots of them. Perhaps it is the geometry that we photographers are drawn to.

Thanks for this. Bourdin is also one of my faves. I keep coming back to his work - alongside Lindbergh's, Avedon's and Penn's. His exacting nature is present in every frame - each image seemed like a whole production, a whole dreamscape. The series with the two pairs of models, each pair wearing the same clothes as the other is absolutely rivetting. So surreal, but also so minimally achieved. It speaks to his genius.
