I think it’s a few things. People like Adewale and want to see him expanded in the assassins. The simple mini games it offers are a fun distraction to do and offer a lot of variety from stealth, ship battles and all out brawling. This may be small but it’s one of everything from the main game even down to the harpooning. And do I even need to mention it? Giant machete and big pirate shot gun make people blow up

The music composed by Olivier Deriviere is an absolute highlight of this DLC. The main theme alone is stunning. I also love his Master Assassin robes in AC: Rogue! I wish we saw them as a legacy outfit in modern games. I’ve 100%ed this expansion and I love the liberation missions, both on land and on sea. One of the biggest downsides about this DLC is that once you hit a threshold, the in game economy becomes meaningless. Ammo refills are free and the ship upgrades are minimal. I was hoping that the Maroon hideout would have a system similar to Monterrigoni or the Homestead. I was slightly surprised there weren’t even any assassin contracts and options for alternate outfits/colors for robes. I would also argue the JtR DLC is pretty amazing too. I wish its tone was applied to Syndicate as a whole.

Yea the Jack The Ripper DLC has a really airtight focus the base game of Syndicate and even Unity don't have so its so strange to cap off a game's content like that. Because the Industrial Revolution ac games (unit/syndi) would have been much closer to the successful ambition of the ezio/kenway games

Wow this video is very well made for the amount of views it currently has. You sound very comfortable on the mic and it never feels like you are just saying extra words to make the video longer.

Freedom Cry is definitely my favourite Assassins Creed dlc. I thought Adewale was a great character. It expanded on his character arc from the main game. He was a more serious protagonist but it made sense because of his backstory and the weight he has on his shoulders. The machete and blunderbuss were great weapons and it made Adewales combat feel different from Edward.

The amusing part is that this so the same studio that produced Tyranny of King Washington, Syndicate, and Odyssey.

I’d like to see you do a video on Rogue and Shay. Shay is a very grey character when it comes to the dynamic between Templar and Assassin. He clearly regrets a lot of what he did but he saw it all as necessary and would do it again. A good character idea and Shay himself was yet another attempt at a new hero type.

Recently finished Black Flag but didn’t play this DLC. It sounds interesting but it it has missions where you need to follow someone and avoid detection while eavesdropping on their conversation, I think I did plenty of that in Black Flag…

am i the only one that feels the level design in freedom cry is superior to black flag? ik they both share the awful tailing missions but FC's 5 investigations, and chasing down that boat with the extremely cinematic setpiece (like ezio from revelations chasing a boat). the quality here is much better. Also the free-running design/placement of the trees and buildings are really tight and has a really organic, stylish, abd mechanical flow to it. Its actually apalling how good from a moment-to-moment standpoint freedom cry is. finding weapons/pouches on islands (which fits being a pirate more than crafting *every* upgrade). as Adé you literally loot bodies for plans to upgrade capacity. how is tht not already in ac4. the design of plantations has more opportunities and doesnt just feel like a key-hunt for the warehouse like ac4. man, if edward's journey had this constant level of variety in its gameplay it would be my favorite in the series. Pacing is good, and overall its one of the tightest games in the series despite being a supplement.

Normally I can't stand when social justice is shoehorned into something. The slave market scene in AC III just made me roll my eyes. But in this game, nothing felt shoehorned in. Playing it right after IV and going from listening to sea shanties to then hearing the slave songs on the plantation was profound. This is how you present a message.

Normally I find social justice used to either make the protagonist look good or make sure you know the antagonist is a very bad person and that just takes away from the story. This works because it’s not arguing the morals of slavery between two white people or white and black, but several different views of what is the best way to help your people here.

As someone who has 100%d the series back to back from 1 to Syndicate, I found Freedom Cry to be where my AC4 appreciation started to die, and Rogue is where it was long gone. FC was a fine story, but the progression gating was just killer. There weren't enough dynamic ways to increase how many slaves you've liberated in a natural way. By a certain point, you will just be seeking out missions with high slave yields to progress which feels rather... not correctly handled for the subject matter. AC's gimmick weapons have never been a real selling point either. Blunderbuss, Whip, Hidden Crossbow, Hookblade, etc. They're all interchangeable and not really core to the gameplay experience, just some flavour on top of your base game so you don't always have to swing a sword to win. Freedom Cry stands on story and story alone. Freeing slaves from plantations was fun, but it feels too harsh when you start to fail because the stakes feel too high. You can't simply reset like you could a mission. It's realistic, but not fun. I think it would probably have been unmistakeably a fantastic DLC if it trimmed the fat. Reduce the liberation requirements to the point players might not even notice them and I think it'd be perfect. The kind of experience fans would wish was longer. I do think FC is the best expansion, but I do enjoy the Tyranny of King Washington. Many people overlook it as a non-canon alt history DLC, but it genuinely does take place in the real world via a shared hallucination between Connor and Washington. Connor did experience all that happened within, and we have some cool references to Connor knowing his grandfather and such.

The protagonist is ok. The problem I have is working for a pimp. The woman exploited slaves and made them her sex workers. And the Adwele or whatever the hell his name was gave her an important artifact like it was nothing and then in AC Rogue has Shay kill a dying sick man with TB, a old man, (Im currently still playing Rogue and just killed the old man so I can’t speak on who is next, but so far the assassin’s have Shay kill people for basically no reason. The one guy on Shay ship said the old guy was bad because he would change the laws whenever they didn’t work in his favor. But that doesn’t make the guy evil. And that should not matter to the assassin’s. They the ones talking about everything is permitted.
