Actually, you're not far off regarding Demoman's covered eye socket. In the comics, Medic said he had attached an eye there multiple times and each time it would become sentient and try to kill the team, Demo's left eye socket is canonically haunted.

The “Extras” for the demo man video has a really interesting bit of information on how the game has something programmed in to prevent players from using sticky bombs to “Allahu Ackbar!” enemy teams. If you’re curious, spoiler. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Here’s an example to illustrate. You’re a wounded demoman with 70 health, and you’ve placed down 3 stickybombs, when an enemy Heavy at full 300 health walks into them, while you are ALSO in range of the bombs, which do 120 damage. 360 damage means you’re guaranteed to kill the heavy if you say, “Screw it, you’re coming with me!” and blow them, right? Yeah, no. The game doesn’t allow that. Because when a bunch of stickybombs go off and a demoman is in the blast radius, the game does a QUICK calculation of how much damage it would take to kill ONLY the demoman, and then ONLY detonate that many stickybombs. So in the above situation, only 1 of the 3 stickybombs would explode because that would kill the 70 HP demoman, while the heavy would survive with 180 HP because he only got hit by 1 bomb, the others crumbled to pieces the way stickybombs naturally do when Demo’s die. And in that same situation, but the Demo was at full 175 health and the heavy was wounded at 70 health, both players would die if Demo triggered his bombs because the game would calculate that 2 of the stickybombs would need to detonate to kill the demoman who placed them, while the 3rd bomb would crumble. [EDIT] I think I derped. I *THINK* (emphasis) that it’s not JUST the demoman who is vulnerable to dying from his own stickies without killing an enemy. I think the game calculating “How many stickies to kill a demo” also applies to other members of the demoman’s team, so the Demo can’t friendly fire willy-nilly. But don’t quote me on that, I haven’t given that “Extras” video a watch in awhile.
