Fun Fact: SS agents don't always dress up in a suit and tie. I went to Obama's second inauguration with my friend's mom who is married to a retired SS agent. She pointed a couple of them out to us in the crowd, and they were all dressed like normal people. She said the best way to identify them is by their earpiece and shades. Plus most of them look like they could kill you just by clapping in your direction. Also, please look up the test that the drivers have to pass before being able to escort the president around. It looks like something straight outa GTA. I shit you not.

It’s not uncommon for Delta operators not on “bowstring” to do a rotation with the SS to bolster their ranks and help keep both group’s asset protection finely honed. Many of the plain cloths members of the detail are Army SMU (Delta) and Navy DEVGRU *(Seal Team 6). *edited to reflect correction of previously fat fingered “DEVRU”. Thanks to Ron Burgundy for the heads up. I won’t act like I’m not impressed.

It is really shitty when people call the president the most powerful person in the world. He’s not a king for fucks sake. Presidents don’t make laws. They just say yes or no to them, and if enough Congress people disagree with his decision, the decision is moot and doesn’t count.

The president Office exists to serve as a diplomat to foreign leaders, and also as a diplomat of the United States government to communicate with the United States people, a figurehead if you will. He has check and balance powers and as part of executive authority of saying yes or no to things, works well as a commander in chief because all of the plans are made by people who actually know what they’re doing and the president simply says yes or no to them Using his own judgment and knowledge of the management side of things to determine which option would have the best economic and political outcomes for the country, which the military doesn’t have to worry about, they just have to think of how to make it succeed.

About 20 times over the past year, “the most powerful person in the world” has gotten their orders overturned by lower level judges. That doesn’t sound like the most powerful man in the world. Presidents are just another cog in the American political machine which spreads the powers of the government almost equally between every member of the branches. Want someone to make a difference? Focus more on Congress. Congress can neuter or empower a president. But nothing happens without them anyways. The legislative branch literally writes Americas laws and thereby decide how it operates.

My Grandfather was in the SS for Reagan. He always said you couldn’t have asked for a nicer guy. I remember when Reagan passed away he didn’t do anything for like a week and a half because he was so down in the dumps

A Secret Service friend once told me a story I enjoyed much. While at Kennebunkport home one winter, season agents were required to post outside President George HW Bush’s bedroom window. One very cold night, First Lady Barbara snuck out to deliver the agents hot cookies and hot chocolate. When she left, she asked the agents “please don’t tell anyone”. 😉

When I was younger I visited D.C. and had a tour of whatever portion of the WH was accessible. I asked if the Secret Service would protect Dubya’s dog. The agent bristled. “No, we don’t take bullets for dogs!” Fun times.

It's great that you made this video. Back in the early 80s, I was a Flight Engineer on C-141s Cargo Planes for the Air Force. I was on two different missions where we carried a bunch of Secret Service. This was during Reagan's Presidency, when he was traveling inside the U.S. It's amazing the amount of planning and activity behind the scenes -- it's enormous. But, at least we saw the good side of the Secret Service, since we were basically their chauffeurs. They were very nice and polite. When we were waiting for one of the groups of Secret Service, we would talk and B.S. with the ones who were already at our plane. We never talked shop, except one time someone asked about how one could get into the Secret Service. Basically, you would have to already have Law Enforcement experience, take a bunch of written, psychological and physical tests, along with interviews. What I found amazing was that they would all carry this small gym-type-bag, and while waiting for the other group, just had them lying around outside the plane, and inside were their weapons. None of us asked to see inside, we wanted to stay professional. It was quite an experience, and one that I'm glad I was able to participate in. It gave an unique perspective of protecting the president. On one of the trips, they would give us souvenirs like match books and napkins from the President's and Vice President's planes and their business cards. We were flying them back to D.C. to Andrews AFB, and one of them offered to give a couple of us a tour of the White House. But because that other group was very late getting back to the plane, we didn't get into D.C. until after 2am. So after a couple hours of sleep, I called the one Secret Service guy, and the woman who answered said that he didn't come in that day, which was very understandable. I was actually kind of glad because I felt ill from having such little sleep. I went right back to bed and got a good amount of sleep, which was great, because we were leaving later that same day.

One of my friends was a Secret Service agent. I asked him about his day. He said he spent 8 hours guarding an empty Air Force One on a black asphalt runway in Waco, TX during Bush 43. He said he also spent a lot of time guarding stairwells in hotels at night while the president slept.

I’m not a lawyer but IMO, it might be unethical and they might lose their job, but its not illegal unless it violates national security whether they’re still working or not.

I was shunned by aunts uncles and cousins alike, still today at 37 years old (and two years clean from my own 6 year heroin struggle due to an opiate prescription) my nickname is still “The Crimefighter.”... I’m in schools to be an LCSW and Addiction counselor as when they say “you’re never too old to fulfill your dreams” they’re full of it, bc you can in fact be too old to start either of these two jobs.... another great video guys!! I can personally vouch for how bad Clinton was with the Secret Service. I lived outside of DC during his tenure and once went to Roosevelt Island with a friend. We walked the entire island, then were walking back across the foot bridge. As we were coming to the end, I see a man on a bicycle at the base. I had seen the sign that said no bicycles, so I was going to tell him they weren't allowed. I got about 10' away from him, only to realize it was Bill himself. I kind of stumbled over my words a bit, then a secret service agent came riding up on another bicycle...then comes Hillary...then Chelsea...we had stumbled upon a family bicycle outing! But Bill was WAY ahead of that agent, and if I had a weapon of any sort I could have been on him...woulda been dead a few milliseconds later, but still. There was no protection at that moment.

I actually want to be secret service or FBI. I've taken high interest in both services for a while now. The only thing keeping me back is going to school. I don't have the money or time. If I had the time, I wouldn't have the money to afford living costs. If I did have the time to go to school for it, I may not be guaranteed a position which would both crush me and break me financially. I wish there was a program that they could put you through if you were interested to pay for the schooling or pay for your housing while you paid for school or something. It just can't be both. I really want to, but there's just a huge barrier.

What I want to know is what stops secret service agents from going postal? I understand they are meant to be impartial and a hypothetical attack on the president wouldn't necessarily be politically motivated- they are all armed, work with difficult people, and under a constantly stressful job after all- but say the president finally does something that an agent just can't live with, why have we not seen one snap yet? Are we holding secret service families hostage? Are the benefits really that good? Are we just really lucky thus far?

I think because they respect the man they work for. it's not their job to judge his political issues it's their job to simply protect him and his family. Plus he picks his own personal detail that's around him 24/7, they also swore an oath to protect. and it's also honorable to think that an oath is more important to them than them being swayed to believe our presidents action are wrong. I just think they're good men.

A friend married someone who was ex-secret service. He was a weird guy. I was visiting her one day and he showed up and while still wearing his sunglasses inside quietly stood next to her while she and I talked. I think he had their home under video surveillance that she didn't know about. I was uncomfortable and left which is exactly what he had in mind (I think.) He wanted to know where she was and who she was with 24/7. He became too weird for her and she divorced him.

We disrupted governments in Central America under Eisenhower, we crippled Russia's oil exports with fracking, and who we sell arms to determines who has more seats at the UN. Like it or not, the US is the world hegemony, and what the President does affects billions of lives, born and yet-to-be-born.

Leader of the Free world is a colloquialism it's been ascribed to American Presidents by more than just Americans themselves, it's a figure of speech has been around for quite a while. Get over yourself.

Had a friend become a SS agent. We gave him a call while deployed (we were all military). This was during the early Clinton years. As a lark, 1 of our guys asked him if he helped Bill sneak in any hotties. He yelled at us saying "This is the WHITE HOUSE! Like every phone isn't recorded! Are you trying to get me to loose my job?!?". We apologized profusely & were just joking around. We left the call shortly after. Fast forward a little time later & what's in the news.... You all know what. So now we really wondered what he really knew. I lost touch & never got a proper debrief. Added later: But I guess Bill did! 😆

Kennedy was not riding in an open car over SS objections. The use of open car motorcades in good weather was fairly normative at the time. However, it is true that JFK did not like agents riding on the back of his car which kept them at a distance. It is not likely this had an effect on his assassination though. Because the car was preparing to go onto a highway, agents would not have been on the back of his car at the time he was shot even if Kennedy was not opposed to it.
