Congrats to both of you! If I'd tried driving when my husband was alive, someone would have been facing murder charges. Now I'm full-time solo at 67 towing a bumper pull. You can do it!

I’ve been trying to imagine you two & driving “lessons” & I could envision murder being an option for both of you! 🤣🤣 🩸. My hubs is almost a painful driving teacher so that’s why our kids drove with me when they were learning & my imagination didn’t have too much of a stretch. I fully intend on driving our rig & truck when we get it, though Hubs prefers to but understands I MUST be able to do it.

Way to go Marisa! My name is Joy and I'm a 68 year old woman and my husband and I went full timing 2 years ago. I learned to drive a 40 ft class A pulling a 4 door jeep. Practice = confidence is what worked for me. The more I drove, the more confident I became. It can be done!

Way to go Marisa! My husband doesn't drive our 5th wheel. I grew up driving horse trailers so driving the 5th wheel is pretty natural for me. Just don't be in a hurry. I love the backup camera for passing vehicles, not sure what I would do without it.

It's a learning curve with loads of surprises, I did 30 years as a long haul trucker and feel I can still learn things. The trick is to drive in your comfort zone and then try to push beyond it. Personal recommendation, 60's a good safe speed trailering, beyond 70 is iffy and chews fuel.

Congratulations you did a great job at driving the fifth wheel. I actually find it easier than a bumper pull. I would caution you and Nathan on your towing speed. The size tires your running often have a max speed rating of 65 depending on manufacturers. When your headed down a long grade it’s not uncommon to gain 5-10 mph. Even on cruse control. I aim at 60mph, plus it give more time to react to a situation or tire issue. Safe travels to your family.

I'm proud of you Marissa for wanting to drive pulling your 5th wheel and actually doing it! Bravo young lady!!! As a truck driver, I know there feeling. It's taught and drilled into our head that it's Very Important to slow down with inclement weather and NEVER use cruise control when there's inclement weather. Great job!!

I drove a big rig for awhile years back. Learning how to handle 80,000 pounds of tractor-trailer on the road and, especially, in cities was a challenge. But the most challenging part of it was learning out to parallel park a big rig. It isn't often necessary but when it is, you have to know how!

Good job Marissa. Just something to think about. The proper following distance for a car is 3 feet for every mile per hour, so at 65 mph the proper following distance for a car is 195 feet, you can just about double that for an RV or a motorhome. Just something to keep in mind when you're on the road. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

We have a Forest River Stealth toy hauler. My husband has let me drive our Ram 2500 while towing it once. In Nebraska, while we drove across country to our next duty station. Flat lands, no curves, nothing but two lane highways. It was sunny and easy breezy. You go girl! So proud of you!!!

I’m proud of you. I’m still trying to work up to learning to back. It’s on my list before we go full time. It helped me tow by driving my 450 as a daily driver years ago. I then towed our 42 ft 5th wheel on a trip we had taken several times close to home. Knowing the road helped me with my confidence. Proud that no fuss took place with driving or parking bc control is hard to hand over so way to go Nathan.

Good job, Marissa. Sorry you didn't get to spend time in OKC. A lot of new things to see. That week was a weird week. We had to sound the sirens twice that week and that never happens in October. Of course last October we had a really bad ice storm. Glad you made it home safe and sound.

Good for you for learning! We had begun getting my wife to pull our 5th wheel some when the roads were easy, until this past July when I fell and hurt my knee. Being a manual truck, that made it very difficult for me to drive so she drove us home from Asheville to Raleigh and did great! Keep practicing from time to time to continue building your skill level.

Great video and way to go Marissa! I am our primary driver now because my husband suffered a spike in his glaucoma about 6 or 7 yrs ago while we were in FL. He has some permanent damage but we chose to drive home to SE Michigan at the time so he could get the needed surgery. He was completely out of commission as a driver because the ophthalmologist in FL put him on an oral med to lower his eye pressure and he was a zombie! Thank God I had been doing some driving of our 5th wheel all along and though I was stressed for the 1100 mile drive home, I was competent. I am always surprised at the number of women who don’t want to learn any part of this, but when things go wrong you want a few basic skills. My husband is still a better backer than me even with some vision issues but I often back anyhow because I am determined to improve. Now he is the one who spells me for an hour or two on long travel days “from rest stop to rest stop”. You got this girl!

Congratulations Marissa! When we got our travel trailer I wanted my husband to hook it up to our truck and let me try driving it so I would at least get my feet wet. He never would do it & the worst happened one day. He got sick and my son had to come down to AL, help me pack up and he drove the our truck and trailer home. In that instance it wouldn’t have made a lot of difference because I had to be with my husband. Our church rented an RV for us and drovd us home. But I still felt inadequate because of not being able to tow the trailer myself. For now I’m grounded and whether I’ll be able to travel again is unknown. I’m learning other life’s lessons the hard way now but there are still some things I wish I could have tried out to give me more confidence. You go girl!!

Malissa I have not posted for a while but want you to know I just turned 90 yes 90 years old and I have been a full time RVer for many years. I had a 37' Class A for a long time but now have a 28' 2016 Monaco TREK Class A Motorhome and I still drive it , and do all the chores of full time living in it. Every day is a gift but driving it is a pleasure and I love it when I pull out and start a new run down the road to see what is around the bend. Think of it as just another skill that you can learn and be confident. Plenty of women drive all kinds of big rigs and do just fine. You will be fine too. I have followed your channel for years now. and still enjoy it.

Thank you for the JJ translations. My Dad was a big fan of storms so when it was really bad out, he was so excited for us to watch it. Didn't matter how dangerous, we went out to watch it or tapped up windows and watched it if the wind would take you off your feet. As a result, I've never really had a fear of storms or earthquakes (that I learned on my own, my Dad actually didn't care much for quakes) because they were all the same thing to me. Same thing with flying, turbulence was always a game because we all flew regularly (I've got 3 older brothers) from just about birth on. He just pointed out missle hazards, wind direction and keeping aware of your surroundings. That awareness training has kept me safe for the past 60 something years.

Marissa is off to a great start. I'm not trying to lesson what she completed because she should be proud. However, most will agree that 5th wheels and travel trailers are very easy to drive on the highway. Where they get very difficult is when you are driving in narrow campgrounds and backing up. So although she off to a great start, the real world challenge for anyone will be to have confidence in those driving situations. The more she drive the more confidence she will get. Happy RVing.

Great Job Marissa! If I may add a bit of advice since I was assigned to "red light photo" enforcement for two years and I learned a lot as to why "some" people run RED LIGHTS unknowingly. I am short in stature and raise my seat. I see that Marissa is sitting really high, that is great, until she lowers the visor. I've seen so many people running red lights because they never saw them; they were seated so high and with their visor down their visibility through the windshield shrunk immensely. So if the seat is up, remember to just barely angle your visor or you may not notice that red light :) I just bought my tow rig and just saw your video on when you picked up your truck. I will be flying out on Thursday, Veterans Day to pick it up! That day has such a significance to my life because of all the VIETNAM WAR VETERANS who brought my father to life for me. My dad did not make it back from the war alive, but these Veterans, whom I refer to as my uncles, brought his photos to life for me. Anyways, didn't mean to get sidetracked, but I am forever grateful! Tow rig: 2018 Ram 3500 Diesel SRW, just couldn't do the dually, I'm almost 5-03 in height and can barely look over the bed of these rigs - LOL! Flying up to Washington State to bring her home to California for now. Hope, Lord-willing to see AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL, starting next summer for my 5-year road trip a month in every state. God bless your family! Proud daughter of SGT Eddie E Chervony, KIA 05May1968. Happy Truckin'!

Great job Marissa! I’ve been doing the majority of our driving with our 5th Wheel and Mega Cab Dodge for a couple years. It’s very empowering to be able to manage your own rig! We had big trip this past summer thru Texas and it was the most stressful driving I’ve had so far. Merging can be challenging when people are exiting / entering the interstate and then the other drivers waiting to merge till the last minute and creating a big potential for rear collisions. We had a couple close calls so keep your distance between other drivers. You can do it!! It’s fun when you get the hang of it. Driving in the rain sucks and you did a great job!

I think Nathan should have been telling us about all his cameras and gadgets while Marissa was driving instead of while driving in the rainstorm. Marissa you did great. I had to learn how to drive our fifth wheel after my husband had strokes in his eyes and with limited sight it was either stay home or learn to drive. I have driven from Bellingham Wa all the way over to Boston Massachusetts. We are able to trade off in our driving so we can keep RVing. Keep practicing. As they say. Practice makes perfect. Love listening to you two. Keep up the great work.

We are new full timers and were caught in that storm on I-40 too. We were at a campground in southern Illinois with large oaks looming over, so we opted for a hotel that night. It was our first “damaging winds, confirmed tornadoes, and possible hail” storm in an RV…wow what a difference in how you view a storm, in a house versus an RV!! Great job Marisa!!

Nice job. I firmly believe that both of us need to be able to drive. Whenever I drive and my hubby sleeps, I can guarantee we will have bad weather and road construction. I’ve managed through it, some without waking him up. Best lesson you will ever learn if you are going to live in your RV. Let me make it clear, I am not good at backing up. Lesson in progress, always!!

You go, Marissa!! I am the primary driver when we are hauling our Airstream. I have to admit I am a bit selfish because I just like to drive, plus history has shown I have better spatial sense than my husband. He has driven when he had to and is an expert at getting hooked up using the truck backup system. It looks like you were doing a great job. Practice makes us all more comfortable with towing. Thanks for all your wonderful videos and safe travels!!

That was awesome! Our future plans are to purchase a 5th wheel, but for now we stick with our tow-behind. I've always enjoyed camping, then moved up to glamping. When I met my now husband, he was not a camper, but he tolerated it for me. Now he is HOOKED. I did all the "work" you know. I did the hooking up, the towing, the backing in. Then he started asking to tow and to back in (I'm sorry for what I called you while you backed in the camper! LOL). I was a nervous wreck! Now he went and bought a new truck with all the bells and whistles, and he now exclusively tows and backs in. So I know what Nathan means when he answers "No I'm good" because I've asked my husband to tow with his truck and he now answers the same way. I do not want to forget how, but it sure is nice being a passenger for a change.

Marissa, great job for your first driving lesson pulling that big rig and what a great example for your daughter. My family lived in Germany for 3 years and my mother refused to drive over there and my father had that responsibility. I swore I would never give up my freedom of driving because of fear. My husband and I lived in Germany and Seoul, South Korea and I drove in both of those countries. I spend 30 days in Ireland and put 3,000 miles on the rental car…learning to sit on the right had side of car & drive on the left hand side of road was interesting but got it done.

Way to go! I towed for the first time this weekend, but it was just a little 20ft travel trailer behind our 3500 while hubby drove our diesel pusher. I was so nervous, but like you said couldn’t feel it back there just kept an eagle eye on my mirrors the whole way.
