If I lived in the Wayne, NJ area, I would definitely visit Sound Exchange. This tour brings back so many fond memories of my favorite record store of the 1970's. It was called Capers Corner, owned by Ben Asner. I hope you thrive for the next 50 years, Anthony!

I've visited that store probably twice a year for decades.... Every time I left frustrated because it was a disaster. Impossible to "dig". I haven't been in probably 5 years. The place looks great now. To say the store needed that was an understatement. Great job! I hope you make a million bucks!

I used to shop at Sound Exchange during the mid 70s in Wayne. The last time I was there was prior to moving to California in 1990. Seeing it is still in business, despite changing ownership, leaves me in awe. There are many records, CDs, and memorabilia items purchased for less than $5 back in the day can bring in many times the original price. Sound Exchange was my go-to for bootlegs. If I do make my way back to Jersey for a visit, I will make my way to Sound Exchange.

I wish I had a place like Anthony's close to me. The closest are. 147 miles, 289 miles and 467 miles away from me. If it weren't for Amazon I'm not sure what I'd do, I'd really rather buy from a local store. I did get a mail order from Sound Exchange once (The Buggles on vinyl) and I was very happy about it. I would have never have found it without your show, Brendan. Support your local stores because they're like a lot of things, you don't know how much you'll miss them until they're gone.

I first went to Sound Exchange in the late 80's with my older brother and would buy Led Zeppelin bootleg cassettes. They were the only place you could get them. I was hooked. So cool to see it still going strong and it still looks almost exactly the same. I moved to Florida 10 years ago and really miss that place.

It would be interesting to know what are the big sellers. My friend has a store in Hong Kong and his gimmick is to post on IG every customer holding up their purchase(s). Last year you could see that Starboy was in every 2nd photo. Then it went to old Kanye albums and now it's like every 2nd photo is Taylor Swift. I also wondered how stores order their stock. Is there like 1 or 2 central places you go to?

This is actually so interesting to see. DVD and used records are our top sellers at my store. DVD being our top following records. No one talks about purchasing new stock and how much work it is and a lot of the time it gets back stock due to limited copies. Idk if that’s something that’s happens with CD but for vinyl it was always a race to get it or we got it and instead of 10 copies we got 3 and it be back ordered for months. Funny story we just got an order that we placed almost 2 years ago just showed out out of no where lol.

Fantastic video. Sound Exchange was my go-to record store from 1984 into the early 90s. It became unbearable with those CD holders bending into the row. And the LPs were so crammed together, it wasn't worth looking through them. So I stopped going there. So Anthony has done a wonderful job making it more neat and organized. But my question to Anthony is this: wouldn't you sell a lot more used CDs if you just lowered the prices a little? I can get a used Rolling Stones CD at Princeton Record Exchange for $1.99 or $2.99 ($4.99 tops)....... it would probably be around $6.98 or $7.98 at Sound Exchange. I'm not sure how much the store was purchased for. I'm sure that comes into play. But from a consumer standpoint, common title CDs should be cheap. Nobody wants them anymore. Plus there are just so many out there. Again, I would have loved to hear more about what it's like to run a record store like this from a financial standpoint. But it just seems to me like you'd move a lot more inventory if the prices were a little better. Princeton is packed every time you go there. Yes, it's in a great location. But the prices are so friggin cheap, the turnover is unbelievable. You can go there once a month and see completely different stuff every time.

There is a dollar cart and a dollar bin and both have lots of great titles, including the Stones (and it is buy 5 get one free). In addition, there is a policy of buy 3 regular used cd's and get 2 free, which makes the price much lower

Calling his band the "Kathleen Turner Overdrive" in High Fidelity is still the funniest thing Jack Black has ever uttered. I never saw the TV show though. Cheers

I was going there for well over 20 years. I found it because my girlfriend (now wife) lived up in Wanaque and I’d stop by there whenever I went up to see her. Art had a lot of great stuff at great prices. Anthony is a bit higher priced but much more organized so IMO that’s the trade off. But Anthony is a really cool dude. I went there for RSD a year ago and it was great. I’ve since moved to Florida so I’m gonna miss that place. Vintage Vinyl in Fords NJ used to be my goto since I lived close to there but it’s closed now for good. Good luck Anthony. Thanks for supporting him Brendan. Cheers 😊

I still put on a DVD or Blu Ray once in a while. But of course KZread killed that market. Do You see any renaissance in the DVD market?

I had a question. From time to time when I order stuff from my local records store it takes forever to arrive and arrives months after I’ve ordered it, or sometimes it doesn’t arrive at all. Why is that the case? Is that an issue with the store? Or a supplier issue? Or both?

No wonder why so many record stores have closed with such low profit margins on some items.

Not gonna lie, the shop owner looks like Eminem. Just imagine him with short blond hair. Even some of his mannerisms are like Eminem's....

No, not at all. I don’t see it. Not to mention they don’t even have the same hair color.
