This guy is the real deal. He said "shore power" which original used by marine(boaters) say for plugging into electrical at the Marina(docks). My wife and I bought a 40’ diesel pusher when I was 37. A few people were genuinely happy for us, but we could not believe how many people thought we shouldn’t have it. We sold it a few years ago, now everybody is relaxed again. I’m back down on their level (non RV owner). We loved it, the Cummins 8.3 treated us like royalty. I’ll always miss that thing. How about that retro clock on the wall ? Makes me want to get out my old Three Dog Night record albums.
All of the 3.0 v6's were recalled. I bought a 1991 Toyota pickup 4x4 with the 3.0 and got a notice in the mail that they would cover the head problem up to 100,000 miles. My head gasket blew and warped the head at 98,000 miles. Toyota replaced everything and never had a problem after that. When I traded it in, the pickup had 295,000 miles on it and the engine still ran great.

Love the Toyota RV's I used to have one but it was a Toyota cab with the aluminum housing unit. It drove great and I could take it anywhere. I had an pretty unpleasant experience with the black water drain my first time draining it - Yup - Thank goodness it had a shower in it so I could take a quick shower and change right there. We had the 4cyl model with dual wheels in the back w/air bag's... EVERYTHING worked perfectly and we made a number of trips with it including our 'Retirement' trip down to Wash. DC, up into Canada and all the way across the U.S. including numerous stops in the South, Midwest, Yellowstone, Custer's Mem., Mt. Rushmore, and a multitude of wonderful, fascinating stops along the way plus traveling Highway 1 from Wash. St. to SanDiego, CA!!! ALL w/o a glitch except we had to 'gear down' going over the higher MT. passes as we were fully loaded with 2 adults, 4 kids, a dog and ALL of our gear!!! WONDERFUL TRIP AND WONDERFUL VEHICLE!!! WISH Toyota or some other mfg. would make another small RV like this once again!!! Scotty, love your showmanship and enthusiasm, information you share is always reliable.
Scotty, I lived in an '84 Toyota Dolphin RV for about 2 years, even through a winter and harsh winds. I loved that RV and nearly traded straight across my '89 Fleetwood Southwind 28ft for another one of these Toyotas. Mine had the 22R engine and it was a 4 speed. It had get up and go with just enough power to climb long hills at 55MPH. Sadly, a woman drove into the back of it while I was at an intersection awaiting a green light. She drove into the back of me at 40MHP and totalled my RV. Many years later, Geico still owes me $3,500.

I use to own one, loved it. Regret selling it. Cheap to buy. Easy to repair, service, maintain, & all drive train parts are available locally at Toyota dealership ( O.E.M.) chain auto parts stores, & junk yards. It was my undercover, stealthy garage, camper, & Mobil tool truck. I would go off the grid with it. Loaded with camping gear, motor cycle, jetski, kayak, spare parts, & tools. Bought it cheap. Kept it for about 10yrs & 100,000 + miles & sold for a small profit. I miss it.
My grandfather had a similar motorhome for a few years. Camping out in the RV the best years of my childhood.
Soon as I saw the hood open up, i was like "22RE" immediately. Very good engine. I've only had the carb'd version, the 22R.

You sure keep yours in good shape! Looks like new. I see these all the time in SF California parked on side roads and have won what they look like inside. Thanks!
Thank you for the tour, would love it for family trips
Hey John, great job on the Toyota tour. Thanks Scotty for sharing!
I consider it a damn shame that Toyota decided to bow out of producing motorhome chassis. I'm sure they had their problems with rear axles and V6 engines. But once they were recalled and fixed, they had an awesome truck. I think Toyota should've continued with it, well into the Tacoma production. For a vehicle like this, I would've preferred a 2.4 litre turbo diesel engine, rather than the 3.0 litre V6 engine. Sadly, the turbo diesel was never available in large numbers in the USA. Emissions be damned, I would've preferred better fuel economy and better uphill climbing.
Very informative. I,v always admired thes little MHs. You answered a lot of questions I had about them. Thanks!
Hey I love that you feature channels, thankyou
That's a crazy cool camper!!!
I worked with one of the owners of Sunrader around 15 years ago, and heard the whole horrid story of how the axle recalls started because of aftermarket dual wheels failing. Really sad, Toyota and Sunrader didn't do anything wrong, and this guy went from making $250k a year making a good product, with a 30 year company, to losing everything and working as a tech at an rv shop, before he eventually bought another rv business and did ok. He finally retired about 10 years ago I think.
This is by far one of the most interesting viewer features Of all time! Cool guy, cool camper.
Love it I'm jealous I looked for something like that for years finally gave up and I work on my yard now always wanted to travel and something like that
