What western country?

I visited the P.I. when I was 17 back in '69. I always remembered how great the people and the culture were. When I got ready to leave the U.S., I kept being told I was having an escape fantasy and I would never leave. Just before the big day, I gave my gun collection to a close friend. I gave my guitar collection to my son. That was 11 years ago and I've been living the good life here in the Philippines since I arrived in 2011. I have not been back since and I have no plans to ever return to the U.S. I'm now a legal resident. Maybe one day I'll apply for Philippine citizenship.

I retired from the military in '95. My friends and family had opinions about my moving here in early 2007. Some may have even thought that I was crazy. But they were looking at it from their own personal perspective, certainly not mine. I was quite used to this. I've never had a single poblem here. My daughter finally visited in 2019, and she now understands.

I have been here for 20 years now. I left the US Army in 2002 ( not retired) and settled here with my wife (Filipina). Took me 10+ years to convince my mom to come here. She spent her last few years on this earth with her grandchildren in comfort and luxury (compared to the US). I have no desire to ever return to the US.

Sometimes that is fantasyland. There are attractive places in the U.S., and also very ugly places like in many countries. They go to the Philippines for many different reasons: tired of hectic demanding lifestyle; too many rules; looking for a Filipina spouse; want to retire and have a higher standard of living in a tropical climate with lower cost of living. An apartment in the U.S. could cost me $650 to $1,300 a month, but only cost me $300 - $566 in the Philippines.

My last trip to the Philippines to see my wifes side of the family was so stress free and enjoyable trip I ever had. I had 21 days of peace away from the rat race in the USA. The last 3 days of my 24 day vacation the stress level went to 100 I did not want to go home back to the rat race that USA has become. I look forward to my next trip back soon this time i hope for a longer stay.

We moved to the Philippines for THREE reasons. #1. My wife's family of many nieces, nephews, cousins, etc. #2. Our retirement funds last the entire month with $$ left over. In the USA it would last only a few days. #3. Year round summer season weather. Unfortunately I have lost track of 95% of my USA friends & family they also thought we were nuts to move here.

Moving on with life and making new friends is a good thing. The old friends can really hold you back if you let them.

Iv'e been here 6 years now and my friends and family thought this would only be a short term move. You are correct, they really don't fully understand all of the reasons why. I'm retired military and spent a great deal of time in this part of the world before the move so it was fairly easy. Like most expats we come here with a suitcase and a carry on bag and build a life from there. The Philippines is far from perfect but for me it's a good fit. So grateful and blessed to call this place home.

I'm a filipino nurse here in Philippines I once had a patient who's 80+ years old he has a filipina wife in her 40s. She takes care of him even though he's old bedridden and the doctors already given up on her husband. The Doctors told her that she should just take him home to save money. She looks for money to pay for the bills and I for myself really knows that she loves her husband. while she's away finding money in welfare her brother is taking care of the patient and I for myself really sees that her brother takes care of him too. Good luck finding that kind of woman in US.

Im born in Philippines. Live in USA since I was 11. Im 40 now. I go every year to visit Philippines for 2 weeks to 2 months, also lived there during pandemic for 1 year+. Everything in the Philippines is the complete opposite of the United States. USA= cooler weather, PH= hot, USA= bigger space cities, Philippines= smaller space/crowded, USA= more rude people, PH= less rude people, USA= lots of impatiant peopke, PH= lots of patient people, USA= individualistic mentality, PH= collectivist, USA= less down to earth people, PH= more down to earth, USA= most live to work, PH = most work to live, USA= high cost of living, PH= low cost of living, USA= big average income, PH = lower average income, USA= fast paced life, PH= slow paced life, USA= efficient/fast way of business, PH= not efficeint/slow way of business, USA= lots of complaning people, PH = very few complainers, USA= not friendly to strangers, PH= friendly to strangers, USA= masculine women, PH= feminine women, USA= like to get a tan, PH= avoid the sunlight. There are many more, but almost anything I can think of, I dont even think there there are any similarities other than the basic human needs like food and shelter.

The stress levels are not just high in the states, they are over the top. The biggest challenge for me was to sit back and chill. Filipinos have their own methods of doing things and it's never really in a rush. Took me 5 months to realize, hey, I'm retired now, why am i in such a rush. So much happier now. And, I don't care what my family thinks, I moved here for me, not them.

I left Salt Lake City in August 2017 and settled in Northern province of Cebu. People in America can't imagine how relaxed and beautiful it is here!

Hey there from Canada! I was told the exact same thing from friends and family when I was in Mexico, Israel, Burma, and Kazakhstan. I’m hoping and praying to go to the Philippines soon

My Pinoy wife ,kids and I moved to CDO city. Been in Philippines about 8 times so far. Longest stay being 90 days. We decided to try and make a go of it. Ever since COVID-19,things have gotten worse all over the world. It doesn't seem like affordable living will ever be a reality again. So there are definitely pro and cons of each country. We definitely felt more lonely and isolated in the USA. It seems to be all about working more and more to provide a better lifestyle and then being tired, stressed and becoming more unhealthy. Bottom line, pursue a life of that yields the most peace and happiness that you can get. Life is short and don't bank on retirement, because you might never get to that point.

I am very lucky my family and friends could tell I was unhappy in the US. They were and still are very supportive of my move to the Philippines. Just finished my first full month of living in the Philippines there have been challenges along the way. You just need to be flexible and have patients things are not the same as you are used to dealing with. My wife had issues opening her bank account even with a Filipino passport and national ID. Almost lost it a couple of times just had to walk outside for a bit.

Right, I’d probably feel the same as you. Living in the Philippines is a challenge. But it feels kind of a milestone when you’ve finished dealing with long queues and getting what you went there for 😊. Always plan for a nice place to eat thereafter.

I agree, the bureaucracy here is nuts. My Fiancée had to get my PLDT Internet, it was too difficult for a foreigner here in Cebu City to obtain regardless how much money you have. I can only get the lowest level Gcash account, so I have to live with that. I wait 1 to 2 hours in line to pay for my groceries and melted ice cream. I asked the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) to help me obtain a Driver's License , and they will if I fly to Manila with all the papers to have them process it for me. I've been to 3 DMV offices in Cebu with limited results. What is important here for Expats to do is to calm down, stop running around, and do some intelligence gathering and research to see what is going on in the Expat Community Philippine-wide, and listen to Philippine news. I was reading my DoD news traffic, and accidently stumbled upon an American in Manila who wrote his Congressman about some US Policy impacting retired expats, and I investigated that string that helped me out by solving a problem I had. So take time to do some strategic and tactical intelligence of your new environment, it will help.

I was able to open an account with ubp (Union bank) with just an I'd and my phone if I recall. Didn't even have to go to the bank. Side note, yes please be patient as things are different and some things may not seem to make sense. Appreciate the little things.. Learn to adjust a D you'll be fine sir

@@romephl You got that right! Victory is sweet! I think I broke a national record in Cebu City. Normally, I am lucky to get 1 or 2 tasks done a day in the Philippines, and that is really good. Some tasks may take me days. But one day my Fiancée and I started early in the morning and actually accomplished 9 major tasks on our list of things to do driving around Cebu City -- which is incredible if not impossible, and we went out to dinner that night for sure! In fact, if we get 2 or 3 major items done in a day, that warrants dinner out!

I arrived in the Philippines on 4-23-22 and have been welcomed with open arm's by the friendliest people I have ever had the pleasure to live side by side with. All of my family friends have been very supportive the recurring statement has been that I got out at just the right time. As an American my dollar goes a long way here. The exchange rate is at a historic high. Living large on 1800 🇺🇸 a month with again the finest hard working people I've ever met. My advice would be GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY. It's a big world with yes greener pastures.

Some things here are just as expensive as they are in the states. Food for example. But after being here a year… it feels like my money is worth 3 times as much. 2500 feels like 7500 a month. It’s much safer. The people are very kind and polite. The weather is nice. No car. I walk everywhere. Take a taxi if it’s too far to walk. When I get the run around with some things I just remember I am a guest here. A very patient and happy guest. With plenty of time and no stress 😎

Spent 18 years living in Los Angeles. Bought a house, started a business, etc etc. 2019 is the year I went back home "Philippines" with my son and wifey. Sold everything I have in the US and I can say for sure that I made the best decision coming back home. Life is more relaxed, safe and most important of all. We are happy.

I came here five months ago to marry my LRD lady of two and a half years. I am happier than I have been in years. I had never been out of the USA , never been on a plane.... Thank you for this video, it hit me on many levels. When I moved from Ohio to Florida in 2016 people told me I was making a mistake and Ill be back in a few months . I always felt Ohio wasn't my home, When I starting talking to my to Filipina that became my wife. I visited the Philippines for the first time. Something inside of me told me I was home. Told friends and family about my plans and I get the same thing I did when I moved away from Ohio.

I am about to move to the Philippines from Ohio USA. Leaving in about 6 weeks. The wife is Filipino and we have a house there. My limited family does not understand it but I am still going. We will be living off of savings until we can both collect FULL social security in about 3 years. I am really looking froward to not driving to work in the snow this winter...

You absolutely nailed it sir!!! I lived there for about 4 years on Mindanao and loved it, and am biding my time to get back there. I caught exactly all the same flak from my friends and family(some of it arrogantly harsh) about leaving the sacred soil of the U.S. to move to a "3rd world country", or "lesser country". I consider the Philippines as my home and wouldn't trade it for anything. Love it there and the people also. The simple life out in the rural barangay of my wife's family reminds me of the simple farming life of my youth in Georgia! As far as catching heat over moving from the U.S., I always think of Teddy Roosevelt's "Man In The Arena" speech for inspiration! Great video, and thank you for the encouraging words to those who have in mind to get out of the boat, as it were!

Just got back here to the PI from the US last week for the 5th and final time. It's getting crazy with inflation, crime & societal decline in the US. It's becoming unliveable with the cost of living and loss of freedom, not the America I grew up in (I'm 63). I grew up in South Africa, '68-'79 so I'm used to and prefer foreign countries. I'm in rhe Philippines for the past 6 months. And I agree with you 1000% , the Philippines is not perfect but it's the closest to the perfect comfortable life you can live, based on where you go , I'm not planning to leave here, this is home now, coming from the Caribbean, this is so much safer. You can live a simple realistic life here with everything you need groceries clothes etc ..so people need to stop thinking that America is heaven, I've been there twice...it's not....

People think america or any other first world countries is heaven because of the opportunity to work and better pay, that's the reason why so many Filipinos leave the country to work abroad. If you are receiving regular income/pension from the US then you'll be able to live comfortably here because of how powerful the dollar is compared to the peso. For the locals it's a different story.

I was born there in Philippines. But was raised here in the Bay Area U.S. Then I moved to Hawaii on 2000. I can definitely say, that Philippines is like a gigantic Hawaii. But without the expensive costs. What really turned me off about the U.S., is the divisive politics and news of never ending mass shootings. Can't wait to move back to my birth country.

In my 20s, I decided to go skydiving for the first time. It was fantastic and scary, and right before I jumped out of the airplane, I wondered if I was stupid for taking this risk. It was a turning point in my life on many levels. I told a fellow skydiver that it is near impossible to find any of my friends to do this with me. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, "then you need to get different friends." This resonated with me for decades. I later came to a conclusion, based on experience, that most people don't want you to leave them behind because they will feel inadequate on some level. Today, I call it the "friends and family plan." These folks are the ones that will hold you back, if you let them, more than most people you will encounter. Great video. Thank you.

Amazing perspective. I agree 100% with you. I had tried to get different friends but to be honest it was very difficult to find ones we would love to be with.

Born and raised in the Philippines and currently have traveled to 72 different countries. You are right, the US is one of the most dangerous places on the planet. Still can't forget my experience during my very first visit to NYC where I was robbed only on my second day. Never in my life, have I been robbed back in the PI but only a week during that visit, there was a break-in on my sister's home(Dallas TX). I also have not only traveled to Europe but also have lived in Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands these past few years, and I can clearly say that the US is a Third World country wearing a Gucci belt.

@@runningseagull5413 You know why? You'llbe thinking otherwise. In the Philippines, if you hurt/kill a member of their family, most likely they hurt/kill yours too when they get a chance. Filipinos hold grudges for a long time and even for generations. Most of the time, they will put the law in their own hands just to get even. Good people but don't cross them.

This video is so true! I've been saving hard to retire early and move to Asia where I can just rent a house near the beach and enjoy life. My coworkers always tease me that I'll be moving to a third world country and living in a cardboard box so I can retire early. I don't think they understand I can rent a house nicer than what a lot of them own here for less than what they pay on just property taxes. I think a lot of people have a perception of a lot of countries in Asia and South America based upon how the poor people there live, but in reality if you are somewhere like the Philippines with a 2k a month budget you are probably living better in a lot of ways than people in the states living off a 2k a month budget.

I am a new expat to Philippines (sept. 15) and retired on savings and some SS from USA. Last big adventure for me. Relying on Filipino wife and her family. Lot of uncertainty but interesting challenge. Love the people and the food. Feel safer here than USA. A lot of misinformation on internet so have to pay attention to your sources for information...Ignorance is prevalent but can be corrected with information. Stupidity is permanent. Trust your family and deal with problems as they arise. Life is always an adventure and there is never certainty.

Because in the US most people use toilet paper it's sold out versus Asia they don't so of course you have it well stocked lol. In the Philippines for example people uses water or stick not toilet paper. Plus most of the people cannot flush tp down their toilets like US toilets does.

@@JG-bi3he I'm from PH and (1) Basically everyone I know buys and uses toilet paper; (2) Around 99% of all the toilets I've used in the cities and the provinces can flush down toilet paper; and (3) I never heard of using a stick to clean one's arse in this country. Good job! I think it's a wise decision to retire in the Philippines. Money does not matter if you're always unhappy and stress about your work. I believe that as long as you have a bit of something in the Philippines, you will enjoy living in the country. Being happy is better than having more money but unable to enjoy it. God bless

Just returned to the philippines, was Doing the 6 month USA and 6 mo Phils. Just emptied my North Carolina home and in the process of renting it out. I am here for good now. Funny how everyone says they miss you but few are willing to visit me in PI. Been coming here for 25 years and love it. Sorry but the USA is now the third world country. Watching this while drinking a rum and lime on ice overlooking Libaong beach here in Bohol Philippines. Important thing to get use to, lots of singing coming from the beach on weekends haha. As for those stuck in the suburbs in the west, better stay there, paradise is probably not for you!

I’ve been living here in the US for 8 years now I truly understand why Dr.Laway is 100% right the stress level in this country is too much and you’re doing the same thing again and again work sleep work that’s all. I cant wait to go back home in the Philippines and 1 of my friend who is American now he’s living in the Philippines and I’m still here!

On average, people work really hard in the U.S., it can be very demanding and stressful work. Yes, the money can be high, but the work complex, demanding and stressful. Just driving to work can be stressful in you live in or near a major city. I know people who are highly paid, but travel 1 to 2 hours + to and from work every day. Some use their car as a mobile office. Work is only one element of stress, then you have your daily living, paying of bills and taxes, fighting bad weather, etc. Then there may be a crime problem where you live, and that adds to stress.

Even moving to Canada from the US, it seems like the pace is slower. Maybe that's because I'm in Quebec, which is like living in Europe.

I have lived and worked here in the Philippines for over 20 years. I feel I have had more opportunity here to grow in my work and in other areas then if I stayed back in the US. I can tell you the daily stress level is a quarter of what it was in the US. I do miss some conveniences back in the states but even though my PH salary is not even a quarter of what I could be making in the US as a Director in my company, I have really enjoyed life here. I have never felt unsafe, and even in the covid lockdown I was never short of anything I needed. Great place to be. The US is not all that people think it is.

Nothing wrong with living out of the country, but do your research. What will you do for medical? Medicare does not work outside the U.S., and Tricare Overseas sucks. Where will you live? Do you have patience? Are you in good physical shape? Look at everything.

@@user-DrJoe-Future im retired military. Tricare is over there big time along with a VA clinic in Manila. I have zero worries when it comes to medical, dental etc. i know things are different over there. Maybe this is another video idea for him to make. 😁 Tricare and other insurances.

I moved from LA Calif. to Cebu Philippines in 2010. I never did the digital nomad thing but just settled down in this tropical paradise. You are sitting there in another part of this tropical paradise just stating the plain truth. Philippines is HOME for me now.

Ever since I told my parents about the plan I get nothing but emotional abuse. They don't like the idea and constantly voice it in very hurting manners.... It's pretty heartbreaking to be honest. Nevertheless, I will do my thing.

Philippines is like Hawaii without the BS and pressure of America.Then it felt more at home.Very welcoming and relax.The vibes and energy is very happy.A lot of people smiles a lot.

Ditto, ditto, and more ditto. I have lived abroad three times. I still travel for periods of time. My brother said to me, "I'm not about to travel overseas where I can get my head blown off." Then he said, "What do you think about that?" I said, "Well, that sounds to me like an American who has never before traveled outside the country." You have to do what is right for you and sometimes that means accepting that most choose to live in the dark. :-/ Fear of the unknown is a powerful but deceiving force.

We live in Cavite, outside Manila. My wife's family is from Llanao del Norte hahaha - about an hour from Marawi. We know literally everyone there. One of my wife's cousins is the Barangay Captain. Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. But I still like Cavite hahaha.

To be fair Mindanao is 75% Christian and has 4 progressive areas: Davao region, cdo, South Cotabato-GenSan and Zamboanga City metro. most of Visayas is probably as miserable as the non-progressive areas of Mindanao

I am a Filipino, worked in the US as a nurse for close to 20 yrs. Retired early and moved back in 2013. Our lives are simpler but definitely happier and even healthier (high BP, back pains, insomnia, migraines are all gone). We only have electric bill and wifi to pay every month. We can still eat steak, burgers, sea foods, etc. every time we want to. Not like we're starving here, haha! I'm sure my colleagues in the US are wondering, but I'm happy and I really don't care what they have to say anymore.

Same here I worked 26 years in EU and need to get back to PI due to plantair fascilitis that doctors can't cure but after 6 months here I can walk like normal. No more rushing to go to work only to pay rent and bills. Now life is a slow pace.

I love your videos I feel the exact same way. I'm a crane operator in the union here in California and I've gone to Thailand twice, memories I'll never forget. I'm trying to maneuver my life into short refinery projects with lots of hours then travel half the time til o retire. The Phillipines has been my next destination for years. I truly enjoyed watching this video. I have traveled to the Philippines many times and since my first trip knew I wanted to one day live there. I researched ways to find how to get myself to live in the Philippines after every trip I was more determined to find a way to make my dream come true. Well fortunately after making a drastic career change a couple years ago to become a banker, my boss told me the company can help me relocate to work and live in the Philippines. My family and friends think I’m crazy of why I would leave this amazing country. My parents who immigrated here and bought a home decades ago, still talk to me about the American dream while complaining now about the high cost of living in California. My boss has been very supportive along with our market director and VP of relocating, they say there’s more opportunities for me in our corporate offices abroad. I’m going back to the Philippines next week and can’t wait to relocate. But it’s true family and friends only look at it from there perspective and they never traveled the world, I’ve traveled to many countries because I’ve always been curious of life outside of my town in California. I have an amazing manager because when I started to believe the doubt my family had of me finding success abroad, my boss said I’ll find success if the new job position is not the right fit the company will find me a new position and I can always relocate to another country or come home.

Once I figure out how to make money, I’m going right back to the Philippines. I have never felt more peaceful than when I have visited there 3 times and I just barely got back last week and felt all of the stress return the moment I walked through the front door

after living in the Philippines for some time, I see the US as a mini-vacation to stack up on supplies from factory outlets and go to the places I used to frequent but to live there is out of the question, having lived in apartments for so long I like my house in the country with trees and miss my dogs plus have a maid 24/7, this is the good life, while I don't make money here, the cost of living is low, no stress, I can go the beach daily if I want to, I seem to have more freedom and I can always travel plus save a fortune on bills. i retired at 45 as i was a frequent visitor at ER's for chest pain plus felt like walking on eggshells at work, my 11 mile drive to work takes an hour whether I use the freeway or surface roads plus another hour going home, always multitasking at home like watch TV, laundry, have breakfast and check e-mails simultaneously.

I went to the Philippines back in the 90s for 39 days. I ended up traveling to Davao city and out to Gen San. While I was there I found the people were very friendly and respectful. Most people speak English where ever you go. While I was there it was 58 paso for one US dollar so everything was super cheap, it felt like the mall was a dollar store. My rent for the apartment was only $90 for 39 days so yeah that was cheap accommodations including electricity. Just make sure you watch where you are going many items in shops and malls are not made for people who are 5'8" or higher so be ready to duck :)

Yeah, I'm on my way to the Philippines. I live in South Africa and SA is seriously going down the tubes. When it gets to the place where the police are just organized crime with a badge, it's gone too far. I think it's all gearing up for Chinese takeover in the next 20 years. The Philippines is nice. The people are gentle and helpful. It's a very different culture from the rest of Asia that has a hard "2 eyes for an eye" type of legal system. It has a lot of American influence and the people are very Christian. I'm going to find myself a Filipino wife and live happily ever after.

Its been going that way for a LONG time. Even in the states.

I moved my family here to Cavite in 2018 and never looked back. I go back to Texas every 18 months or so, for practical purposes, renew Drivers License, renew ATM card and Credit Card, load a couple of balikbayan boxes. One of the first Americans I met shook his head in astonishment when I told him I go back every 18 months or so. He told me, "I never want to go back. I'm never going back!" I immediately understood. He is balding with gray hair, 60s perhaps early 70s. I am sure he has a girlfriend. This is an amazing place. The schools and inexpensive health care is what keeps me here. Our family is 4 adults and 2 children (6 & 4) with a third baby on the way. Our budget is around 90,000 pesos every month, usually we stay below that. I did live in Nagoya, Japan when I was a boy back in 1977, so a diet based on rice and fish seems natural to me.

I’m planning on moving to negros oriental / Bayawan city with my fiancé Lyn in only a few months from now… however, being a world traveler for decades as a navy and merchant seaman has conditioned/ seasoned me well for such a move ( not to mention living aboard my sailboat and traveling the Caribbean and Central America for 5 years)… I’m all too aware of all the naysayers with their 191 reasons why it can’t be done… such people with no imagination or courage to make life an adventure are basically intolerable to me.. friggin woosies…. 😂

San Jose is Hell at night. I use to work as an LVE doing renovating Targets I.T. Infrastructure. My crew I worked with had so many issues with just the police? Our company had to hire armed guards to protect us from the police itself. I thought it was a joke till one of our crew got his hand pinched by a cruiser while it hit him on the Scissor lift. And mine was even worse. Since we worked at Night? We had some of the worst interactions with these so called LEO's. One guy got shot at while running fiber into a building. (He was deaf) San Francisco was not any better either. And this was just 5 years ago. Our company ended the contract and sent us all via Fights. They got tired of us being constantly targeted in our rental cars.

Thank you for cementing in my brain what I have been thinking of doing for the last couple of years. All i need to do now is to sell the house and catch a plane- am so looking forward to this adventure. Luckily I have travelled extensively during my life and that has taught me to be patient, so now that I am retired I don’t think I will worry too much about time !! Great series of videos !!

so many foreign tourist vloggers that traveled the Philippines are still alive and doing fine after going back to their country. Philippines is not that a very dangerous country but tourists must be always smart enough to deal with locals to avoid getting scammed.

I moved to the Philippines nearly 7 years ago and exactly as you described, my family was freaking out telling me everything bad imaginable is going to happen to me. They still ask me when I'm moving back. My answer...🤣🤣🤣. I have lived long enough to know never say never so I won't say that will never happen but, I definitely don't plan it. My wife is Filipina and we have a 7 year old daughter. I am so glad we're not living in what is happening socially and politically in the US now. I don't have to worry about our daughter being indoctrinated in school with leftist and gender ideologies. I'm happy to be here and enjoy the hospitality of the Filipino people. Probably the most friendly and polite people I've ever met in my world travels.

Can't agree with you more, brother. I am Filipino- American and had spent most of my life in the United States ( since 1972). When I came here, it was like a culture shock to me. I am filipino by birth but didn't really know Philippines until I lived here. Been in the United States most of my life and I know how hard it is over there, working most of the time and not making ends meet and always in debt. I remember seeing my parents trying to make ends meet and having a hard time at it. Had to work multiple jobs as a 16 year old teenager to help them. The important thing is you need to make life decisions that will make your life easier and not put you in a predicament where you will feel tied down and not move on. Life is too short and leaps of faith are few and far between. Be happy and content. Don't expect too much and all your surprises will be pleasent ones. Cheers and good luck to you.

If you’re an American who’s tired of the rat race and has tha patience and understanding with asian cultures particularly the Philippines, it’s the place for you. The good thing about it is, you can still visit the states anytime you like if you miss it, just like me being a filipino-American and i can visit and enjoy the things you missed once every two years or whenever you find time to take off from work. You can’t beat that, instead of being stuck in one country or city and feeling miserable as you get older. We seem to be alike . You’ve made the right decision! Why does no one ever talk about visas? You can't just live in another country without being approved to live there.

Do what Dr Laway did, he married a Local. You can stay for a year without a Visa in the Phil as a Tourist.

@@monancheta3450 I wouldn't mind though, but I'm not too interested in the Philippines. I'm looking at Japan primarily, and then Thailand and Vietnam second. So I'll definitely look for a Japanese wife!

@@FSVR54 I dont know how easy it is for americans but Japan usually is way harder to go, maybe you should first look at Thailand and Vietnam while you search for a japanese wife. I also wanted to go there, but is very hard for brazilians to be accepted without being a descendant or married with one (biggest japanese population after japan is in brazil). So i'm really considering Philipines because they're like brazil but asian. Thailand also seems good, the problem is that i'm already to invested learning japanese, so stop that halfway to learn Thai would be a waste of time.

I think you are an amazing person. You are an inspiration, I wish I had at the age or 18 or 19 began to travel. I realize I have wasted most of my life being in the USA and missing out on so many things. I wish you well and keep true to yourself. Have a glorious life.

Depends on what part of the country you go.The majority of the places here in PH the locals are very friendly and will always be willing to help when needed be. Be it a foreigner or a filipino tourists. I'm proud of my country and proud to be a Filipino.

Great perspective on why living abroad can be more beneficial to potential expats. My main reason if I do move abroad to the Philippines is cost of living. Why get stressed about taxes, inflation, high rental cost or purchasing a home in the US, when you can live for a fraction of your pension or social security in the Philippines. You're able to afford the necessities, able to exercise outdoors all year round and eat locally grown fruits and vegetables. Then, make your way to the 7,000 beaches around the country. Most expats can live comfortably with possible $25K and above, stress free from high U.S. taxes.

I understand you completely. I lived in China for 7 years and had a great life. Many things have changed in China unfortunately. I made many friends from the Philippines while I was in China. Been back in America for the last 7 years and have not enjoyed life at all since I have been back. Seriously thinking about going to the Philippines and living. America is not so wonderful and I sometimes worry about my safety if I do not have a gun.
