What is Your Relationship to Jesus? - Thomas Keating

Fr. Thomas Keating talks personally and generally about our life of faith: “I have known [Jesus] from fairly early childhood, failed him very often, and been forgiven over and over again. I have no credentials at all except the one that really means most to me anyway, which is that God has chosen you, and as Paul says, he chooses the weakest things and the worst things sometimes to accomplish him major things, just so we realize it's not we who are doing anything great, but that the manifestation of God is taking place in us."
Fr. Thomas goes on to share insights into the relational dynamic of the Holy Trinity and how we manifest the presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in us.
He expands on the statement, "to know the Other, to become the Other, there is no Other," and concludes by paraphrasing Luke 9:23: “Anyone at all who brings himself or herself to nothing will find out who they are and who are they... at the deepest level.”

One morning I awoke and saw as if through microscopes down, down into the molecules, into the atoms, then into the smaller things inside the atoms, then the things within them, down, down down until only one substance remained... and it was Love. A Love so pure it had no additives, no polutants, so no judgement, no right and wrong. Just pure, unconditioned, unconditional Love. I think Fr Thomas is saying this. How I wish I could speak with him.

Wow! That last line. My heart breaks thinking of how much Jesus just wants me to allow him to love me. It's a difficult thing to "unlearn" bad habits from childhood of shame and rejection. One day I hope to get there.

Such clarity and wisdom of who or what we are called by love to become. There's resonance in the Truth of this teaching. In letting go of our egoic selves and becoming a new creation in Christ. Thank you Fr. Keating.

thank you. just don't agree, we just need to be, no we can be better, we can be in darkness but by the power of God become light beings... Peter were an apostat he deny Jesus but repent and become a saint a marthir... and stop praying for feeding ego, pray for others, pray for all, pray that together we make this (dirty)world end and together with God at comand born a new world, Heaven on earth... I've suffered many years of solitude and depression, but now thanks be to God I'm in Love with Love itself and full of peace and joy... blessed be God forever.

I was disappointed with Father Keating’s comments on Jesus. They are abstruse for me and, I believe, many Christians. It sounds more like a theologian dissertation than a personal relationship.

Whenever I come upon someone really great, really deep and possibly saintly person in my church, I realize that he is already walked over to Fathers arms. So we cannot enjoy his wisdom and experience, his love any more. There are some things that bother me. Like Holly Spirit is possibly not a person. Or - God Father is nothingness.

I hear you about the Father being “nothingness.”But if you link that to what he said at the end, he talks about us becoming nothing - that is “no thing.” Having ourselves connected to or identified with no particular thing. But being one with God and all things. If you think of it in that sense, I don’t think he meant “nothing” as in the Father is non existent, but nothing in that the Father is not one particular thing. He just IS. He is in all things not limited to any particular thing - no thing.

A slight but detectable whiff of New Age thinking is coming through to me. ...... there is no story-line just a big haphazard happening from moment to moment....God is nothing(? )...... a unity of everybody and everything that looks closer to Nirvana (to me) than to God's Kingdom. No self-consciousness? Christ was not self-conscious? How did he know that he existed? Can there be consciousness without self-consciousness for humans?

I used to study and be impressed with this kind of teaching that father Keating displays here or expresses. No longer, and I'm so glad I left this behind. I ceased being a Christian now for many years. Father Keating has here an amalgamum of his Roman Catholic background which includes the thoughts and thinking of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1 May 1881 - 10 April 1955) who was a French Jesuit priest, scientist, paleontologist, theologian, philosopher, and teacher/author, and who was in turn heavily influenced by Alfred North Whitehead. It's actually a little painful to listen to Father Keating here try to integrate the many different schools of philosophical thought, evolutionary science and psychology, astronomy and quantum physics along with new age thinking. For me it just is a lot of unnecessary theological gobblegook. Why, well because today we have people like Eckhart Tolle, and Deepak Chopra, who can say all of this without it all being twisted up into some sort of Christian spirituality or theological thinking that is completely unnecessary. The words throughout this video of Father Keating is so filled with a kind of purple prose, and very ornate convoluted verbiage, belaboring the points about how infinitely loving and infinitely merciful and beyond the scope of human thinking in this spiritual evolution of consciousness, and on and on with the beautiful poetry of his personal theology. I am so glad I came across Eckhart Tolle who doesn't have to go through this tortured thinking of just how great one may feel God is. Eckhart Tolle speaks simply without all of this purple prose theology, and mystical purple poetry, that sounds a little desperate to me in trying to sound profound. My recommendation here would be to pick up a copy of As One Is, which is a small book of talks given by J krishnamurti, or Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now. What these two books are is what father Keating is trying to communicate here but without the religious speak and theological gobblegook.

forget eckart tolle and krishnamurty, it's garbage compared to Vassula Ryden true prophet... TLIG (here on utube) heaven on earth we need it now and Jesus is the door, through meditation, prayer, sacraments of Holy Mother Church, and good deeds (love one another...) God can turn darkness into light,, a sinner into a saint as we should become.
