I remember first getting back into magic after years. The night before my friend's wedding, he, along with two of the groomsmen and I, played magic until 4am. That reminded me how much fun I had with the game, especially in commander format. I haven't been able to get back into things as I want due to a lack of funds, but I got the new Eldraine set when that released and I got two of the four precons that came with Ixalan. I've introduced three of my friends into magic now and they love it as well. I'm glad that this game exists

It's infectious how it brings people together, it's definitely magic ;)
Honestly I really like Timmy because I like how wild everyone gets when big Eldrazi hit the board.

Great video and reflection on the community aspect of the game. It is a big part why I stuck with learning it.
I want to do cool clever things. The most important thing about any strategy game to me is that I feel clever. If I make a Rube Goldberg machine to kill your indestructible creature that everyone thought was untouchable, then lose the next turn, I’m still happy that I got to show off by accomplishing something difficult (yes I have killed myself before by decking as a Niv Mizzet player to make a sweet interaction work). That said, I’ve never liked paying for singles, so most of my decks have been more defined by what draft cards I think I can cobble together into something cool. I also highly value the lore.

That's awesome! You're a different take of a Johnny for sure. Using what you have to solve the problem in front of you, and building decks with style and a limited card pool takes a lot of creativity. I just want to Villainous Wealth for 30 lol.

Sounds like you have a touch of Vorthos, the fourth player archetype who values lore, flavor, and all things story.
Definitely a Johnny. With a twist of Timmy I love to make a deck around a commander that speaks to me like Darien, King of Kjeldor and then build an absolute monster out of it and then dominate a game or two (or a ton if it’s the right deck like my infinite mana Karn deck) The issue is that having decks that perform optimally and have my fun mechanics tend to be quite costly.
I have been playing Commander for just 3 months but i am jhonny 100%, it was the same with normal mtg. And ye my second deck i built is a breya and i love it

Breya is a classic Johnny commander! You'll have plenty of room in the commander format to flex that Johnny-ness too
I've been playing Commander for a few years now. I can say that I am a Timmy player who prefers the aggro playstyle. My first deck was a Gishath, Sun's Avatar Dinosaur Tribal deck, and my current deck is Isshin, Two Havens as One token spamming deck.

That's awesome! Isshin is nasty...
I play Zurgo Helmsmasher with 12 board wipes, a few equips, control and ramp. Simple man, simple plan. We smash or go home.
I am absolutely a Timmy/Johnny player. I'm going to try and build some cool synergies, and hopefully end up with a big stompy body put of nowhere because i thought of a fun combo with the cards I have ( mostly random cards I have pulled)

My man! Building decks with the cards you own is so much fun! That's where real creativity and unique decks come from. Keep it up!
I’ve only been playing for a couple months, but I have done enough research to know what my play style is. I’m a mix of Johnny and Timmy, my main decks are a hydras with Animar, soul of elements; omnath locus of creation landfall deck; and a krenko mob boss goblin deck.

Only been playing a couple months and have 3 commander decks already... Welcome my friend, you're home now lol. That's awesome! You and I are probably very similar, you definitely play some powerful commanders!
Timmy. 100% Timmy. My first ever commander was Gishath, but my other favorites are Mayael, Atla Palani, Xenagos, Surrak, Halana/Alena, etc. Big smash is definitely my comfort zone. Ive been getting a little Johnny lately though, my Borborygmos and Fblthp deck is a little goofy and creative.

Im not competitive, so not a Spike. I dont really go for big splashy spells, so not Timmy. I dont play combos or goodstuff, but i also dont just play jank for the sake of being niche, so not Johnny. I do like the social interaction, and I love playing aggro that keeps it simple yet strong with gas. I wish WotC had a design around that. I think Tommy would fit, as im more of a tinkerer that searches for strategies to win rather than just what cards will win

Sounds like your all three my friend! What is your favorite commander?
I'm struggling to make one deck I'm happy with. I know what cards I want to play, but the problem is I ALWAYS find some card that I just HAVE to play with another card I selected, thereby throwing out the previous strategy, ruining the colors and needing a new commander. Been doing this off and on for several months, I dont know if I'll ever get to play again at this rate 😓

@@KommanderMTG I haven't put a physical deck together in a long time, but I keep trying. My most recent deck I completed was Obuun Landfall to pump up a dinosaur tribal theme. I was pretty unhappy the final deck. Before that, I finished a Hylda aggro deck (tapping for the purpose of getting damage in and getting her triggers, not so much control), but I felt nobody wants to play a game being tapped down and abandoned it. My latest obsession was Zoyowa Lava-tongue being built with Braids Arisen Nightmare and Rankle cards, but I couldn't solve it. I had a blast with Zoyowa and Braids on Arena, though, and I HAD to check him out on edh. I tried doing Jeskai with Kykar, saw some cool looking synergies with red and blue phyrexians for casting noncreature spells, but didnt know where to take it from there. Tried Parnesse group slug(including me, cards like Impatience and Scytheclaw Raptor), giving all the punisher permanents "ward- pay 4 life" with Parnesse and not worrying about copying spells sounded really cool, but no way to close out game. Before that it was Parnesse demon tribal, because they're scary to leave on board. Other decks I thought about today were Vaevictus the Dire, Zada, and Dina. And this is all within the last couple weeks. Decks I actually built in the past was a Rodolph mono black vampires for my wife, Miirym was insane, but too slow for my taste. Isshin felt like my thing, I love attacking, but double attack triggers was surprisingly boring. Omnath of Rage, I was spending 30+ mana a game to keep him back on the field(was funny, beat stax decks, but very monotonous). Last I think was Arcades, it was really fun churning through my deck and unloading tons of walls for a quick win.... or being wiped out and having nothing to do, so I scrapped it. I have had several precons in the past. I tried to get help from my lgs where I was told to do goblin tribal with rakdos Wort, because I love playing recklessly like the Skaven in Warhammer for example, and my fav color to play is red. Fav card is embercleave. But of course, i get sidetracked and want to build something else. Always wanted a Yusri deck, but I dont know how to build it. Not the biggest on just spellslinging, I really like having a focus on creatures. but I do love super high risk high reward. Also always wanted to do Mina and Denn, just a late game lands back to hand, stack up a ton of landfalls and fullsending a ton of trampling creatures sounds so cool! I got the landfall package and all, just not what to go trampling and stuff with, and so I've never had motivation to really go for it. Sooo, that's me i guess 😅 sorry for the long reply, this is exactly what my mind goes through when trying to pick a deck, it changes every few minutes. I love every color in certain aggro ways

@@KommanderMTG I just discovered Maarika, Brutal Gladiator, and I'm hooked at the imagery of her hitting things so hard she makes planeswalkers explode. Using a Lure sets off a chain of exploding artifacts and enchantments. And if you do kill her, a well placed Corpse Explosion will set off another chain of explosions dealing 7 damage to everything on board. I'm in love 😂
@KommanderMTG

@@nerdmango9819 I've never even seen that card before lol. Are you thinking Voltron?
@nerdmango9819
4 ай бұрын
Turns out I love a lot of the Street Fighter legendaries, like Maarika (Zangief), Zethi (Chun-Li), and Howling Abomination(Blanka). I already have a decklist for Blanka that's a slower-paced Gruul control/group slug deck. Anyway, for Maarika, It's mostly a voltron, because I really want to activate her ability a lot, but I'm also adding a lot of group sacrifice effects like Braids and Zoyowa, death triggers like Blood Artist and Mahadi, and some backup attackers like Picnic Ruiner and Sunder Shaman (which is like a mini-Maarika!) I'm still in the process of piling cards together from my collection, though.
I don't care what I play, but I hate ramp in all its forms. I also hate combo in all its forms. As long as it beats ramp and combo decks I'm happy. I don't care if I lose to control, mid range and aggro decks. I normally stay as far away from the commander as possible, because I hate that every deck is a ramp/combo deck. I challenge you to recommend me a deck.
@KommanderMTG

Krenko, you can play literally no ramp and have no infinite combos and still win. BUT, you'll probably draw your hand by turn 5 and lose lol

At the competitive level in EDH, for the triangle, replace aggro with turbo, control with stax, which beats turbo, and midrange ad nauseam, which beats stax but is beaten by turbo.
This is not what people are looking for when they talk about "playstyles"
