i am 40 years old in srilanka doing a business unrelated to shipping. Can i change career and enter ship chartering trade now ? What should I do for that ?

Hello, I'm learning a lot here. Quick question, since the cost of chartering is calculated on a round trip basis at $12k a day, would the ship owner still charge the $12k a day upon the return of the ship (going home)? I believe the ship owner's costs would then be minimal and thus not make sense to charge the full $12k

Hi Glen, usually it's on lumpsum basis. For instance, if we charter an oil tanker from Fujairah to Singapore route, we are quoted lumpsum amount for completing the total voyage on that route. From Fujairah to Singapore, if it takes say 28 days to complete the enitre voyage, 13 days fujairah to Singapore, 2 days I have assumed port days and 13 days during ballast, and lumpsum we are getting say $2 Million, so per day charter rate will be ($2M/28= $71,429/day.) Hope this answers your question

Yeh at 7:50 a student asks how the fee is calculated and as Shefali responded, it is priced for the round trip.
