Holy shit, this is so fucking meta like this whole set up is hilarious doing THE Spiderman movie in universe with the real life director and actors being characters in the comic while the real life Spiderman movie is being made its like double advertisment and plot!

The Ultimate Universe, for all its flaws, doesn’t paint a lot of these characters (specific the Ultimates) as heroes, which makes things like Nick Fury torturing Doc Ock genuinely unsettling. I feel like when the MCU adapted the Ultimates, this was something they never understood, and characters there act in ways they would in the Ultimates, but it’s never tonally implied that they’re doing bad things. Anyway- Ultimate Spider-Man is great. Thank you for reading these! You deliver on the emotional beats super well, which is my favorite part of this series. It feels like a teen drama, and I think that’s just perfect for the character! Keep it up!

I always loved that they featured Sam Raimi in this universe making his famous Spiderman (2002) movie. I will say a missed opportunity of this volume was that it didn't introduce the actual Ultimate Universe's Mysterio as a legitimate villain to Spiderman sooner, especially given how it would easily be tied into Mysterio's movie special effects background and the movie stage setting and there literally being a Mysterio stuntman yet no Mysterio.
