Lyrics by Alain Johannes
i run around, round and round the room
staring at floors from the ceiling
standing on walls
i fall my way out of my box
you smile
it's just wrinkling of the skin
save it
the time will come when we're heavy
let me crawl into your ears once more
let me undo what has done you good
let me give you a fistful of
my mind
i pick up the pieces,i pick up the pieces
my body lies all over the floor
but i still have my mind
mind my have still i
it's always cold,even in summer
when trust is shattered by green
an insecure fear of waht's
uncertain
yet sucess is sweeter when it's earned
so i gather my possessions
i re-arrange the order
i sit down and think
i sit down and plan
i'll be back tomorrow
with a new scam
mind my have still i

It's like everything Alain has had a part in is forgotten, yet he's always been there playing with some of the greatest over the years. Heck he's the greatest there is.

I'm just going to say it. Alain Johannes. Alain Johannes. I can't imagine a more important figure in the Los Angeles music scene at that time or ever. This guy had his hand in so much and the people he played with. There is no mistake that musicians find him or want to play with him. And this song. Could there be a better song from that time or today. I'm talking about it forty years later. Put it out. And Alain where ever you might be, you crushed it . What a legacy.

Thanks for putting this up!!! Hadn't seen this in years. Used to see What Is This live any chance I got. I remember when I was in a band, one day the drummer put in a VHS tape with a bunch of videos, ( I'm guessing the show was Night Flight), and on comes this hilarious video of What Is This doing "Up Off The Floor", with Flea on bass AND flugelhorn! I'd love to see that video again.

I know the history quite well, and from what I have read there were sparks even in the beggining as they got invited back to clubs from just improving... Your right this singer had his shit together moreso at the time, and it was the safer play...

Holy mother-effin good lord. Ive never.. what the mother.. this. is. real. Never knew of this pre super super group. Im still picking up the pices of my mind that was just blown to smithereens. Johannes and Hillel are/were masters. Irons is deserving of cred too of course. Not a fan at all of whatever weird 80's style you want to call this, but it is stil a work of art none the less.
