I’m a 4th generation valley citizen. Yes…every travel site goes on and on about the vineyards. Makes me feel like, since I don’t drink wine, I’m not really with the in crowd. I grew up camping, hiking, and swimming way up the Little North Fork in the 60s. My buddies dad would take us up and dump us off with whatever clothes, tenners, and a few cans of food for several days. We live a “Tom Sawyer” life. No adults distracting us from being up all night and just cavorting in the woods. We had no store bought cookware or gear. But it was a childhood that few in my age group experienced. We were not destructive. It never occurred to us to vandalize and it perturbed us when we came across damaged signs or littered areas. I haven’t been up there in years. I prefer to remember how it was befor the Labor Day fire 2 years ago. I now live rural with hundreds of acres of farm and grassland beside us, away from the crime, drugs, and destruction that is enveloping our country. I guess it would be nice to relax with the effects of wine, but it just isn’t my thing. He is right about living in this perfect moderate climate with 4 distinct seasons. My favorite is September, the cool crisp harbinger of days to come.
