I like the idea of the undead being a "curse" instead of a "virus". I feel it fits better into the fantasy world.

I think that it makes more sense that the zombie piglins in the nether are ones that returned from the overworld after the invasion. This could be a reason as for why the Illagers fear them as they might not fear them as much if they were forced to retreat back to the nether. It makes sense that the Illagers used the curse during the invasion because that would be a good opportunity to do so as both sides are busy and weakened by war. But hey, that's just a theory.

Lapis has soul powers illagees wanted to make life hence why you find wool statues of what looks like Steve but didn’t work that’s why zombies don’t attack illagers and when you find wool statues they have lapis in the middle and since it didn’t work instead of Steve, zombies
