Breakfast - If its a short run, then a coffee and maybe half a banana.... longer sessions, a bagel or toast with peanut butter & jam with a cup of coffee....as far as dealing with the mental side, I enjoy Ultra Running and find by staying present in the moment... only in the steps you are taking... after all that's the only place you can be and it works for me... when it works 😊 and if I find myself thinking about distance and pain, then I know I'm distracted... how to deal with that, just practice Anna learn. I'm planning to do my 1st Ironman at the end of 2025... let's see if I still say the same thing 😂Great vid. Appreciated.

Regarding the breathlessness. I have had this happen to me too. As a very experienced swimmer (D1 college) I was completely shocked at how hard it was to truly breathe in a wetsuit with the tri suit up. My first Olympic distance I had the same thing happen to me. Never caught my breath the whole time. From that point on I have kept my tri suit down with no problems.

Regarding the saddle question, there is a Redshift two-position seat post that might be a solution to this problem. Not a particularly cheap solution, but a solution nonetheless.

#gtncoachescorner I am just entering the final taper week before London Marathon, as a Triathlete should I still incorporate bike and swim sessions in the taper week or just concentrate on those final few runs and make sure I'm fully prepped for the marathon?

#GCNCoachesCorner hi just wondering. I have watched you marathon training videos but how do you incorporate training for your first marathon and still get triathlon training in during the week. Struggling to get more than 3 runs a week in. Currently doing hour speed session on the track, tempo run and then the long steady / easy run at the weekend. On top of 2pool swims and 3 bike sessions. (1long 1 hour race effort & 1 FTP session from zwift) Thanks

QUESTION: Am I correct to obsess on W/Kg vs purely watts for FTP + Kona 5.0 hr bike question? I’m 56, been racing non-stop since ‘89 and just got into Zwift & FTP a year ago. I used to mainly run (my best discipline) & swim in winter/spring focusing on spring marathons, then start riding. This is my first full winter bike training (run is still primary) and am now at a 3.98 W/Kg, seems a better metric for a 67.5 kg athlete to think about than pure watts. Bonus QUESTION: what W/Kg FTP do I need to target to potentially hit 5.0 hours at Kona on a “good” day?

I used to do energy drink for a breakfast for years and let’s just say I am glad I stopped. Coffee is my go to, sometimes a gel or OG. I tend to eat after the run unless it’s Sunday long run. I usually don’t run more than a 10K on a typical weekday so no need for food and my workouts are usually not long enough for me to bonk.

Question: in transition I see other athletes running with there bike by holding there saddle. If I try, my frontwheel just goes left or right. I am not able to control it. Is there some kind of technique or should I change something on my bike? #gtncoachescorner

#gtncoachescorner What is the "best" strategy for coping with mental stress in the water? Basically, it's safe. Especially when you're wearing a wetsuit. But what if your brain is playing games (too little air, too many people around you, etc.)?

Low fat cottage cheese and sugar. I had to watch my cholesterol so less eggs nowadays. Mental health is very important and sometimes guys get hormonal too. Better to keep that in check and address it through diet. But cottage cheese is almost 100% bioavailable protein and then add simple sugar. Great way to spell breakfast. I usually don't go after fruit. I tend to be a high metabolism low absorber, so the fructose helps me more.

Hi, this is more of a history based question. So I was doing a very long ride on Rouvy recently (time - not distance) and to help pass the time I managed to get through several seasons of Baywatch . Anyway (ignoring the episode with the giant octopus and the episode with a ghost) there was an episode which involved Mitch competing in an Ironman event. This consisted of a swim, a row and a run. I'm just wondering if rowing was ever a part of the Ironman event or if the producers of Baywatch were just unaware that Ironman existed and just used it n name only to make rusty old Mitch seem strong. ----------------- I dare you to sing the theme song.

Ironman is also a discipline in competitive surf-lifesaving. If memory serves, the name pre-dated the triathlon Ironman by a few years. It is also multisport - swim, run, paddle board and/or surf-ski I think. Not sure where the world stands trademarks of the name though...

It's funny, or maybe unfortunate, that an ever so slight mispronounciation of a single consonant in this video could lead to cancellations and firings and so on. LOL.
