I loved hearing that he picked my BMW X3 M40i as the best. I have the 2020 model and till today it has not cost me a penny in any service costs. All my services have been free as BMW covers all oil and filter changes for free for the first 3 years of new car ownership. Just beautiful. It has been super reliable SUV and oh that sweet 6 cylinder engine has been so peppy. The X3 M40i main competitor is the Mercedes AMG GLC 43. When I tested these 2 great models I found that the M40i's engine is more potent and sportier than the Mercedes and also cheaper. Thanks for posting this informative video here.

@@andrewr3403 I do not drive my X3 a lot which I bought new, I only have 6k miles on it, all trouble free. The X3 M40ihas a very good history and it is the most reliable BMW model I know. Yes, I would recommend it for a person who travels a lot. It is also a fun car to drive. I am retired and don't drive a lot, only for pleasure. I also have a second car, which is my fun and toy car, it is a 2022 Corvette Stingray. I know I am spoiled driving nice cars, but I want to enjoy life before I go.

I’d also venture the Audi SQ5 is a primary competitor. I’m looking to buy an X3 M40i if my wife decides she likes it enough, she loved the SQ5 so I think the X3 will be an even better fit considering Audi forgot to put any useful storage in the cockpit of that car. The SQ5 has sold very well. Beware M40i owners, the SQ5 with zero supporting mods and a stage one tune is putting out mid 400’s horsepower and even higher torque, they are ridiculously overbuilt and under stressed engines. I could give you the shockingly short list of parts you need to get it to 750hp. It’s pretty stunning.

Back window wouldn't go down, some hoses were not placed correctly and excessive noise in the back of the vehicle. I will do differential fluid change next year at 50k miles. Dealers asked $700 for that service (which is rip off but I might still do it with them to save some time). Will change spark plug next year as well as DIY and that one will also cost around $70. So I will say maintenance wise it has been pretty good so far. You just don’t know. I’ve never owned Toyota but have had zero problems with several Hondas. A couple of Mazdas have also been good but one had to have the engine replaced under warranty. A Volvo XC 90 was crap and needed constant repairs. My only Mercedes, a big old GL, had one cooling system fitting issue, and that’s been the only repair (under warranty, in this case), just regular maintenance and wear items in 11 years. I just bought a 2024 X5, and it’s worth noting Toyota uses the B58 engine in one of its cars Supra?). That makes a statement. The reality is, I’m not sure you can expect Brands with lots of the latest tech, and turbo engines pumping out 125-150 (and more) HP per liter, and fancy drive trains and suspensions, without introducing more reliability issues than a Toyota or Honda. Trade-offs are required.

I've been a BMW owner for more than 12 years, something I always advice new owners - Stay away from V4 with turbos all those fragile engines not just from BMW but other brands always brake. Also, stay away from V8s. BMW know how to build solid V6s, so stay with V6s. I wish they didnt have added turbos on the newer vehicles because turbos create a lot unnecessary heat that brakes and cracks everything made of rubber and plastic but it is what it is....

When today, Saturday 15th of April, talking about reliability of BMW X models, a X5 caught fire(n) on the motorway west of Helsinki (Capital of Finland, which is not only a NATO member and also pending hockey world championship...😁) City centre in the afternoon. There was a picture in the newspaper, a car with 5 m high flames rising from the engine compartment... There were three people in the car, no one was hurt. To avoid this kind of things, when you have a diesel, you to monitor the level of the cooling fluid. If the level seems to sink, and you can't see any leakage, then the leakage can be in the EGR-cooler, an internal leakage. Then you have a severe problem (as seen above). I don't want to that I feel very comfortable as I have two X3 diesels, one 20d 2008 with 225,000 km and one 30d 2011 with 246,000 km. The latter has a pending recall on , guess what, the EGR cooler...❤ My intention is to cleanse the whole EGR system in both cars in the next future. A suitable DIY job, I think... 🥺 There are reasons why the future is electrical, even though you don't get rid of every single problem related to your car.

I am actually surprised that BMW's sales volume has held up as well as it has. The high purchase price, and the high cost to repair all of the failures, apparently is not enough to cause customers to abandon the brand. But I do wonder if BMW's sales will hold up like this much longer. Especially as electric and hybrid vehicles become a bigger piece of the pie. For my preferences, BMW design peaked in the 1990s. And that means no more BMW vehicles in my garage.

Does most reliable mean the lesser of all the evil, unreliable plastic clad crap that BMW offers? Buy new, dump when warranty is up- and FYI, the extended warranty offered by BMW had exclusions for the most common issues that were not considered inherent to the drive train or electronics. We found that out the hard way with one of four BMW we owned since 2004.

The way I get it is that if you want a really reliable car but at the same time has performance, you may have to pay the extra dollar for it because that's the sacrifice. Either you have good performance and reliability (expensive), low performance and reliability (cheap) or high performance and low reliability (cheap). BMW in the early generations used to cut cost by doing shortcuts with quality of materials which lowered durability a lot. Racing development has gone a long way and efficiency and durability of performance engines have shot through the roof. Main winners of major races of high performance engines in high endurance racing was mostly the euro-brand cars like Mercedes and BMW. This myth is akin to Buicks who are associated with elderly people being there main buyers which is not the case. BMW had a stigma but that's only because of that one generation and bad quality control prices from their executive member mistakes.
